• snes9x v1.43+
  • did not enable anything when it asks before starting up movie. so untick everything... leave READ ONLY ticked however.
  • no warps (though to advance, the game requires you to use various things such as vents... kinda like warping)
  • prog errors: somewhat luck manipulation in making enemies do what i wanted them to. (noticible on last 2 bosses)
  • takes damage, no deaths
  • plays on hardest level
the mask: you are jim carrey (not really, but i forget the characters name), and you put on this neat little mask and run through the city to... rescue the pretty girl in a red dress?
movie making was odd. i had done 2 versions prior to this (both incomplete and never submitted) in which i did not take full advantage of some moves (hyper-run/advance). most of it was recorded at 12%, but anytime i used the hyperdash, it was at 6% (even 3 at one point). the game was very fun to make.
NOTICE: it desyncs a few times...one i cannot get around is in the beginning. play the movie and it will get stuck in the CONTROLLER OPTIONS menu. just stop and start the movie again. it should be fine so long as you never fastforward or anything. and if you do fastforward, never do it at the beginning or end of a level... it has a thing with what i think is the sound and will cause it to mess up. if anyone can successfully get around the desync in the beginning, please post. im very new to using snes9x.
the last 2 bosses i apologize for to some degree. i tried to make the last one entertaining while keeping it quick. however, he has a LOT of health and i had to find ways around it (i think i used all but 1 attack if it means anything). the second from last in the prison was a pain. on the last little run of it, i do pause because if i move too far in one direction or another, he will hit me and i could not get around it but to hesitate briefly.
also, if i fall and go splat, i was conserving M points. if i use the sledgehammer for what seems like no reason, it was to prevent falling and going splat. i try and avoid as much damage as possible unless it would cost me time, but in some places, you get set-up to take damage.
all in all, im satisfied.
-description: well... im ripping this from a FAQ by pietjepuk (whose FAQ was damn near cryptic in the direction area)
The story is about a man named Stanley Ippkiss who works at a bank and falls in love woman who comes there one day. Then one day he finds a mask that changes him in a guy with huge powers, until some other dude finds this out and steals the mask from him and kidnaps his girlfriend. So Stanley goes after him to save her.

Phil: You should tell us what settings were you using because both me, Bisqwit and DeHacked got the movie to desync.
like i said, i didnt check anything. its just a game that seems to very prone to desyncing. i know its done it at the options screen, in the park area at the beginning, at the last level, and a few times on the level before the last.

Impressing. Very Impressing... You did it really awesome. i can say it's Fast+ even you did'nt waste 1 second. I give it 5 * out of 5. It can be listed in few timeattacks in which i never bored. The whole timeattack is master piece especially last boss. you used your weapons very well. Thumbs up for greatest work.

This one received a YES vote from me. The only problem I could possibly see, is the boss fight in the prison. I don't know if you could have used different weapons other than the horn. It got quite anoying after 4 or 5 horns... Other than that, perfect run! Very well done!

You seem to do very well. But in my eyes this movie foesn't look very entertaining, so you get a "Meh" Edit: I accidently voted "Yes" instead... well, well. :)

The movie desyncs near the beginning of the final stage for me. Up to that point, though, it was a well done movie.

Yes, this run does look well done from what i've seen. Unfortunately it desyncs for me at the beginning of the jail level, so I cannot be the one who publishes it.

If that tas is half as hard to make as it was to follow, I'm impressed. The speed reminds me of the Sparkster tas. Some of the boss fights got monotonous, but only a good bug would fix that, and there probably isn't one. Overall, impressive.

Yes from me. It just looks so damn confusing and the speed is incredible. Reminded me of Sparkster too :P

I'm still not sure about this one. It's very fast, yet repetitive, and the game's depressing color scheme doesn't help. Also, I think the high speed the character moves is probably hiding some imprecision in the movement, and even if not, I'm sure the last boss could be done faster. Here is the info about damage/costs of moves against the final boss: guns: 32 damage, 100 cost hammer: 8 damage, 20 cost horn: 8 damage, 30 cost whirlwind: 3 damage, 4 cost punch: 2 damage, -1 cost music note: 0 damage, -25 cost (the boss starts with 910 hit points) So clearly the way the final boss was done wasn't fastest, since the horn was used several times but takes longer and costs more than the hammer for the same damage. Also, sometimes the horn and the guns do less damage than I listed if use at the wrong times.

Hopelessly desyncs here. It doesn't pass the first menu. The submitter's "did not enable anything when it asks before starting up movie. so untick everything" is really not helpful at all. I am not using the Widows version of snes9x, so I don't know what are all the checkboxes and what do they mean in "checked" and "unchecked" positions. I tried enabling and disabling wip and upanddown settings, but neither helped.

Checkboxes in the Windows version are: Enable WIP Timing Allow UpDown Volume Envelope Height Reading Fake Mute Sync Sound Samples All of these are positive checkboxes (check to enable, uncheck to disable) AFAIK, the only ones implimented in the linux version are -updown -wip and -fakemute, all of these are disabled in this movie, so you *should* be able to play it without passing any special parameters.

I noticed this happens if you don't wait until you see a mask floating up from the water before starting to play the movie.

Did you use fast-forward or increased speed anywhere? The game will desync if the transition between levels runs too quickly. (Maybe you had speed limiting off and the encoding got a lot faster when the screen went black... EDIT: uh, if you were trying to encode it, that is. More likely you were just trying to watch it, so never mind about that.)

This instruction avoided the desync. Thank you. It's similar to Umihara Kawase in this aspect. Edit: Now it desyncs around here:

Yes, I was encoding it to AVI. I usually do that when people loves it so it saves my free time.

If you have the speed limiter off, that would cause the problem - it needs to run at 100% speed to stay in sync (possibly because this game needs "fake mute" to work more reliably but this movie wasn't recorded with that option on). Otherwise, I'm not sure - the way others have fixed it is by playing the movie, then if it desyncs, restarting the movie in the same emulation session to get a different result (but I don't know if that's something you can do this case).

Speed... limiter? What's that?

I meant, if you put the emulation into any kind of fast-forward mode, that would cause a problem with this movie.

I just played this and It doesen't desync. all settings off and I don't know if it makes a difference but I had mute sound in sound -> settings standing on off and just after I started the replay I put it on. used WIP9 too.
