If anyone is looking for an N64 TAS to make and wants a good challenge, I dare you all to try to beat my non-save state times in DKR with save states! Some of my times are pretty insane so it won't be easy. All my times are listed here: http://tasvideos.org/MichaelFried.html#diddy_kong_racing_n64_ I have vids of some of my times so you can use these as a reference if you want. Also let me know if anyone has any questions about strategies. http://rapidshare.de/files/6421841/fv-2066-Fried.MOV.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6424870/al-4146-Fried.MOV.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6461854/jf-3846-Fried.MOV.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6462152/tc-4063-Fried.MOV.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6464845/gv-10770-Fried.MOV.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6505442/ep-2153-Fried.MOV.html http://rapidshare.de/files/6505461/jf-1190-Fried.MOV.html

Before I forget. I don't know if anyone knows this trick but you can beat the dinosaur running up the mountain by just driving around in circles behind the start. I did this playing the real N64 but could never redo it. Either way, it would be the fastest way winning.

Are you talking about the boss of the first world? I never knew that, I'll try it out now.

Yeah, think so. As i said I didn't manage to do it again, but I simply just drove around (I think it was in circles) for fun for some reason.

That sounds familiar, I believe the boss kills himself sometimes... I don't remember the details but something like that happened to me as well.

I wasn't able to do this trick, but I did manage to get stuck in a tree! http://rapidshare.de/files/6755381/dkr-stuckinatree.jpg.html

41.58 on Ancient Lake, was that during a race or on time trail. Because I was able to get in the low 50s in time trail, but during a race I got it down to 42.73 once.

All my times were done in time trials, known as "tracks" mode in this game. 50 is really easy in Ancient Lake, are you tapping A? Tapping A makes you go faster and saves a lot of time.

I made a TAS of the first lap of Jungle Falls that's a few tenths faster than my best non-save state first lap. I played most of it with the speed at about 80% or so and lowered it to about 50% for the hard part at the end. Most of it isn't so special and my non-save state runs look pretty similar, but the part at the end where I go flying in the air is definitely better than I'll ever do without save states. I recorded it with my digital camera because the avi recording is way too slow, either because my computer sucks or I'm doing something wrong. http://rapidshare.de/files/6773576/jf-1303lap1-tas.MOV.html

I want to see a TAS of dkr, the story mode would be insane especially with all the silver coin challenges done perfectly. Anyone wanna give it a try?

Although I'd like to note that the battle arenas would be particularly hard to optimize since I don't know if you can luck manipulate the enemy into killing themselves off quickly/letting you win quickly.

Haha, I loved this game. My N64 has been broken for a while, and I haven't played it in a longer amount of time (though I think I'd get Diddy Kong Racing DS if it has added content). I can't remember exactly, does the adventure/story mode have co-op? I'm pretty sure it did, though it might have required a cheat-code to enable (how would this site tolerate such codes). I can probably get my brother to help do a co-op adventure together, that'd be fun :) Edit: Actually yeah, it required a cheat-code built into the game ("JOINTVENTURE"). But from what I've seen, it's okay as long as people agree it would make a good movie. I'll just play the game a while and get the general feel of it again. Edit2: No wait, co-op isn't exciting for a video. nevermind

What we ought to decide first is what character to use; Pipsy and Tiptup seem like optimal candidates because they can get silver coins really easily, I don't know if any of the faster characters would be faster because of just how freaking hard it is to turn and keep your speed up (plus acceleration issues). I've been trying to see if turbo-ing A is faster than just plain accelerating; the hovercraft and plane don't start moving unless you hold A, but the car does. However it would be hard to optimize the point at which you stop holding A and start turbo-ing (I hope that made sense). Any help would be appreciated.

I would too, I played it for like 10 minutes and liked the cuteness of it, it's better than mario kart 64 in the aspect that it has a much better game to beat with items to collect to unlock new levels, as well as bosses

This would make an excellent TAS. My friends and I have played this game to death, so I would definitely love to see Adventure Mode being obliterated.

Hehe, my first N64 game. I'd kill to see a TAS of it.

Cresent Island was nearly impossible. The coins were so far off course.... EDIT: Note to self, coins are not balloons.

Yeah... TT was an unbelievable enemy on some tracks. But i've managed it and get him. I must say on many tracks i had only pure luck. And wihtout Drumstick it is "impossible" to get TT.
