Here's another Monopoly game. Unfortunately for acmlm, I won 93 frames over him and the game ;).
  • FCEU 0.98.15
  • Aims for fastest time (FCM only not AVI)
  • Manipulates luck
  • Genre: Board game
My new strategy consists of:
h = human
c = computer
h = 5 + 5
h = 4 + 4 (Buy Tennessee Avenue. -$180)
h = 1 + 3 (Advance to GO card. +$200)
c = 4 + 6
h = 5 + 5
h = 3 + 3 (Buy St-James Place. -$180)
h = 1 + 2 (Buy New York Avenue. -$200)
Build 11 houses on New York Avenue.
c = 3 + 3
c = 4 + 4 (-$750)
c = 2 + 2 (Go back 3 spaces card)
c = Bankrupt
I didn't like the idea to let computer buy Oriental Avenue so instead, it moves to "Just visiting jail".
My original strategy was to:
h = 5 + 5
h = 4 + 4 (Buy Tennessee Avenue. -$180)
h = 1 + 3 (Advance to GO card. +$200)
c = 4 + 6
h = 5 + 5
h = 3 + 3 (Buy St-James Place. -$180)
h = 1 + 2 (Buy New York Avenue. -$200)
h = Build 11 houses from St-James Place.
c = 3 + 3 (-$750)
c = 1 + 2 (-$800)
c = Bankrupt
It would have been faster in real time but wasn't able to get it.
Btw, this is acmlm'c strategy:
h = 5 + 5
h = 4 + 4 (Buy Tenessee Avenue. -$180)
h = 1 + 3 (Advance to GO card. +$200)
c = 1 + 6 (Buy Oriental Avenue. -$100)
h = 5 + 5
h = 3 + 3 (Buy St-James Place. -$180)
h = 1 + 2 (Buy New York Avenue. -$200)
h = Build 11 houses on New York Avenue.
c = 6 + 6 (-$750)
c = 3 + 1 (Go back 3 spaces card.)
c = Bankrupt on New York Avenue.

Nice, I never realized just the 2 avenues with houses were already enough to make the CPU player go bankrupt ... but most of the improvement came from the much shorter wait (if any?) at the end to manipulate the CPU's last double turn, you were only 18 frames ahead when building the houses. I'll have to try that second strategy to see if I can get it to work, although it'd only save time after stopping the recording (but still good, like a few seconds) ...

Well, no in fact, I am more than 18 frames. From Oriental Avenue to Jail, it requires ~24 frames. In fact, 18+24= 42 frames faster.

For anyone wondering, Phil complained in IRC about my Smash TV submission being too long (which is what Fabian was referencing). That's very mature of you to point to the SDW submission text, Phil. For the record, not everyone agrees that a submission's text should be as small and uninformative as your average submission. Furthermore, the submission instructions don't specify a length minimum or maximum, so why do you try to regulate what you think others should type? No matter how I feel, you're going to keep your submissions short and simple, and no matter how you feel, I'm going to keep mine long and detailed. Each individual can choose what they want to read and what they don't. This way, everyone wins! No one should have to put up with your needless ridicule based on your opinion of a "correct" submission text. Seriously, how many more people here are going to try and pass off their opinions on other people as facts? It's a trend I don't care for, and I doubt many others do either.

Some games just need more explanation than others. Let's just leave it at that.

Edit: /mode sarcastic on That's even more mature to point out that I disagree with your long text( Evidently, that Smash TV and Super Demo world) in THIS Monopoly movie thread submission. Maybe I must draw a picture... /mode off

I'm also confused (I didn't submit Monopoly, you did). However, discussion closed sounds good to me, as I said what I wanted to say.

Please Phil, you're the one who led the discussion astray. You can't have it both ways.

Boys, boys… the more relevant information the submission text contains, the better! Don't complain of anyone's submission text being too long. It might be too short, but never too long (unless you intentionally attempt to falsify this statement of mine).

Ooooh, internet drama. I like reading long descriptions if there is interesting information in it, which there usually is. I suppose some people want to keep more of it a surprise.

Anyway, JXQ and Fabian are bunch of liars. I never told them to write short text. Conversation between me and JXQ 2 days ago: <PhilCote> JXQ: why did you wrote a novel to describe your movie? <JXQ> Phil, why not? I like to be thorough in case people have questions or wonder certain stuff about the game <PhilCote> Seriously, General information about the game is really not necessary. Unless you desrcibe how exactly it does amount of damage etc.. with memory adress ... <JXQ> well if you don't think it's necessary then don't read it. I prefer it that way <JXQ> *I prefer to write longer submissions, I mean And that's all. In no way I force him to write short text. I don't mind about long text but writing Game's manual is pretty unimaginative.

[mode QXJ=on] Here is what was missing in my submission text. MONOPOLY Parker Brothers' MONOPOLY Real Estate Trading Game was presented to Parker Brothers during the Depression by Charles B. Darrow of Germantown, Pennsylvania. Darrow had made the first games by hand, given them to friends and sold a few through Phila delphia department store. But as demand grew, he could not keep up with the orders and arranged for Parker Brothers to acquire the rights to the game in 1935. Since then, it has become the leading proprietary game not only in the United States but throughout the Western world. It is published under licence in 32 countries and in 23 foreign languages! HOW TO USE THE CONTROLLER START Button... To begin the game SELECT Button... To call up the Main Menu A Button... To confirm and enter all selections; to buy un-owned property you land on; to move from the Main Menu to one of the Sub-Menus; to exit from Community Chest and Chance card screens B Button... To send a property to auction; to exit a screen or menu selection UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT Arrows... To move and scroll around the screen to numbers, letters, tokens, options NOTE: There will be brief instructions and reminders on screen while you're playing. etc... etc... etc... [mode naibaF=off]

The submission instructions say to describe the game. They also say to (optionally) provide help for describing the movie. He was doing both of those things, nothing wrong with that. Probably he wanted to make sure that people who don't already know the game very well can get a better idea of what it's about before watching the movie. Now, the instructions do say to briefly describe the game, but what "brief" means is entirely a matter of opinion... he could've made it twice as long if he really wanted to. And so is what "imaginative" means a matter of opinion, for that matter. BTW, out of all of the top 10 movies with longest submission text, JXQ only has one (half of) a movie on there. (Huh, looks like I have 2 there somehow...)

OK, but it sounds a lot like you are complaining about it, which isn't necessary to do.
