Do you have the latest version of Dega?

I download it, put in My Computer, then try to unzip it but then the window freezes up. Wait...wait. That problem is fixed, but the real problem is that Dega just runs so SLOW! Although I can mind that it should get fixed a bit. Anyways now comes the real start! Test: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/254691509/Sonic%20Chaos%20(UE)%20%5B!%5D.mmv The link thing was broken so copy and paste. This was just to get a handle of Dega. Any suggestions?

I'd like to see this. I was messing around with it about a month or two ago, but there was a lot about the game I didn't understand. I have a vague memory of someone (probably SprintGod) saying that the value of the timer isn't always consistent when starting a level. The TAS wouldn't be too long since all the levels can be beaten in less than 20s. P.S. Game Gear version would probably be best. P.P.S. Sonic Triple Trouble would be cool too.

I got 0:13 probably because I'm using NTSC mode. I'll switch to Game Gear & see about Sonic Triple Trouble.

Really? I always thought Master System's one better, for the greater screen "depth". About the character, I believe using Sonic would be better, to abuse the rocket shoes.

YOU'RE TOO SLOW [edit] Just saw your video... Your dash-start is cool, I liked it.. But wouldn't be faster to use the rocket shoes, midstage? I believe they're way faster than normal walking.. Not sure about your route, either.

Sonic Chaos is such a short game (and wouldn't look especially impressive TASed) that I would recommend playing the special stages to make an interesting movie. To play all the special stages you have to pick up 100 rings on five separate levels (and the level ends when you pick up the 100th ring and moves straight into the special stage, so it would make route planning more interesting). Also, you have to play as Sonic. I might actually watch the video and comment later >_> But as far as I know, the peel-out (up+1) is faster than the spindash.

I'd kill to see the first Game Gear TAS ever, though I'd prefer Sonic Triple Trouble. Sonic Chaos is fine too of course :) I once tried to TAS Sonic Triple Trouble, but I gave up after the first stage because I found out that planning a path isn't as easy as it seems.

Actually Game Gear would be much slower because of the SEGA screen. Other than that, everything is the same. So, This what I have: -Best Ending -Master System version -Using Sonic -Real-time Am I all set?

Real-time
This is up to you, but all the Sonic movies on this site aim for in-game time rather than real time. But maybe we're just using different words for the same thing, so let me provide you an example. In Sonic 1 for the Genesis, if you end with a time below 0:30, you get 50000 points; from 0:30 to 0:59, you get 10000 points. If you aim for in-game time, and you are at 0:29.50, you don't care and you hit the signpost, but if you aim for real time, you wait ("waste") those 50 frames, to get a much faster score tally. Which is best? You decide...

Well the time bonus has been replaced by this SPEED bonus. Not sure how this works though.

Right, I forgot about that. You should investigate how it works and try to manipulate a value which doesn't make you lose a lot of time.

The speed bonus is related to your time and ring count in the following way: The speed displayed at the end of the level is in the form xyy km/h. x is based on your time: finish under 30 seconds and x=9, under 1:00, x=8, and so on. y is equivalent to (rings - 11) mod 100. In other words, if you finish a level with 20 rings, y will be 09, 43 rings and y will be 32, and 0 rings and y will be 89. So if you were aiming for a real time goal (not that I think this is an especially good goal in a Sonic game...) then the optimum amount of rings to complete a level with would be 11, for speed 900km/h (because you should be getting under 30 on every level).

So, if you planning in getting best ending, are you already planning where are you going to get that 100 rings to enter the special stages, right? Maybe you should get them in longer stages, since they pass you right to the next stage. I'm not sure if you can get the bonus in every stage. Usually, you can't get them from Robotnik's stage And I just checked their bonus points, and it's based on your time (not speed), rings and emerald collected.

Awesome, I never knew that, thanks for sharing the knowledge :)

Or in stages where you can't end with 11 rings... So having 10 is the worst possible scenario

So, this is what I am getting from you. The Speed Bonus is in this xyy format where x is time based like in Sonic 1-3 on Genesis and y is the number of rings minus 11. Thanks a LOT mike89. That was really helpful.

If I were to aim for in-game time, I would have to set it to PAL because the timer goes slower, but the overall movie would be much longer..

I got 3 out of 5 stages planned to get the 100 rings. Turquoise Hill 1, Sleeping Egg 2, & Aqua Planet 2. Im looking at Game Gear maps for more places. If these maps are different in the Master System version tell me!

I got a rough draft on Emerald collection! The stages are in order: -Turquoise Hill 1 -Gigapolis 2 -Sleeping Egg 2 -Aqua Planet 2 -Electric Egg 1 Remember this is a DRAFT! It's not the final route.

Can you really get a bonus stage in electric egg? Besides that, cool route. you're going to "lose" just one act per zone

Yes, you actually can! The only one i'm not sure for is Turquoise Hill 1.What do you mean by "losing" one act per zone? EDIT: I'm switching Turquoise Hill 1 for Gigapolis 1. There is a HUGE pile of rings that will get me to the special stage faster!

Well, I got it yesterday, to check the bonus points in special stage=p And by losing, I mean you'll not complete 5 stages to get into the special stage [edit] Well, disregard that =p Completing Turquoise Hill 1 is faster than using the special stage

New WIP! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/699270055/Sonic%20Chaos%20100%25.mmv I'd think that since I collect 9 rings I would end up with 998, right? Nope! I end up with 908! Oh and a rolling-jump is faster than a roll into the goal. Enjoy. ;D Oh and I also just found this weird glitch at a boss! When I jump right before he does the running thing with the sparkles the screen doesnt scroll right. EDIT: I've been told that there was only a PAL version. Ill have to start all over!

There were no region lockouts between European master systems and US ones. So that PAL cart could (and would) play fine on a US master system, where it would run at 60FPS instead of 50. Additionally, the Game Gear version was released in the US, and I do not know of any version differences between the SMS and Game Gear versions except for display resolution.

So it's okay to run on US mode?
