Here is an improvement of 231 frames to the previous submission.

The first three levels each have a ramp that can be hit with less slowdown that the boost it will give. Speed is able to be tuned pretty finely, and so many speeds can be tested by delaying the throttle in different ways before hitting the previous ramp.
In addition to this fine-tuning, you can also lower your jump height by moving upwards after hitting the lower part of the ramp. The character does not actually move higher, but will not have to fall as far to hit the next ramp.
In level 0 and 1, I was able to get a speed of 5.252, compared to the previous submission's 5.140. In level 2, I improved the speed to 4.200 over the previous 4.123. Since this speed boost can be retained throughout the level, the savings add up.
Here are the memory addresses I used:
  • 0094 speed
  • 0090 speed sub-pixel
  • 0050 x-position
  • 0394 x-position sub-pixel
  • 008c y-position
  • 0026 slant timer
  • 004c speed timer
  • 0384 y-velocity?
  • 0380 y-velocity? sub-pixel
I tried to make the submission as different as possible since this is a minor improvement, but Luke did a great job with the style of the previous run, so there wasn't much new stuff to show. I tried to hit as many bikes as possible :)
I intended to write a program to try and simulate the game for me to find optimum achievable speeds, but I wasn't able to figure out all the details of how vertical speed is calculated. Though I tried a lot of possibilities, these times may be further improvable, and I encourage others to try if they are interested.

Wow!Cool!JXQ,You are not riding moto on the earth, you are flying into the sky! I image whether this run can be reduced some virtual time when speed up if you press some "start" to pause the game?My poor English.

awesome! I liked the end of the 4th (I think) where you manage to wreck after the race is won.

Nice. You prove me that I was right to think it was improvable. I started studying that game but abandonned for the sake of, imo, better projects.

Well, if the value at 004c continues to change while paused, I think it may indeed help. Edit: No, it doesn't work.

Awesome job. After the way this game has been dissected, I wasn't expecting this much improvement. And yes, nice job taking out the other riders. Yes vote.

JXQ, I think it is absolutely amazing that you keep improving these fantastic runs :) I am just utterly amazed by you.. It's such a big pleasure having you here :) Voted naturally yes and of course voting for your run to get a star.

Now I wonder whether a "100% wreck" run will be entertaining.

I thought a couple of levels from the previous movie might be improvable with better speed control but I never thought all of them could, I liked the end screen action the best, also it seems the parts where there is insane speeds is even more extreme compared ito the last time. Yes vote.

Whee flying off the screen! Love the high-speed zipping through courses so fast that the system has trouble keeping up. A nice improvement, so yes vote.

Amazing. We've barely passed two months of 2008, yet we already have four potential NES TAS of 2008 contenders. :) Yes vote + star potato.

If someone accidentally voted no then disregard this post but you who voted no without explaining yourself do not deserve to vote at all.

Very nice movie; rather fun if you ask me, everyone and the dog have played Excitebike, so everyone is familiar with it; love the "glitches" the speed, its so fast in level 4 and 5 and its so funny that the motor sound is never heard so. One of the movie objectives: *Tries to save as much fuel as posible would need to be pointed out; No vote ÷Kidding÷ Total Yes vote ^^

The game itself would have bored me. On the other hand, I have a simple mind that couldn't stop laughing at how you made sure to try and make as many competitors as possible crash (I especially liked that one in the 2nd track I think, where you taunted him, then caused him to crash in mid-air). Anywho, unnecessary yes vote.

My favourite part of this post was the bit where you were modest. Somewhat more on topic: Voting yes for improvements that I was under the impression were impossible.

They *should* explain why they voted no, but not saying why is not a reason to go attacking them like that and saying they don't deserve to vote at all. That's a little over the top.

I've never played it, my dog prefers GBA, and I'm not familiar with it in the slightest. Don't make over generalizations. Me-likey. yessie vote. I too was under the impression the old movie had no room for improvement anywhere, so that'spretty cool to see such a significant amount of time saved. Granted, I couldn't tell the differences between the speed at all, but I noticed the crashes at the end and the more desire to make the CPUs crash more.

Too often, people vote no without explaining why. I have seen several submissions suffering from this behavior which is totally uncool and unacceptable. If I gave the impression that I was attacking "them" then so be it, because if I were co-site admin, I would not tolerate people voting no without giving a reason.

Once again, I feel that one should be required to post a reason behind their vote, or at least reveal which votes belong to whom. Then again, the purpose of voting is to help the encoders, not to appease the author(s).

I'm not worried about the votes. Either: 1) Someone didn't like the movie. I can't expect them to vote yes. Maybe they didn't post because sometimes, people get hated on, even when posting their reason. 2) Incorrect click. 3) It was someone like laughing_gas, and it's common knowledge that he doesn't know shit about fuck. Hell, look at some of his ratings. Actually, speaking of that, isn't he banned from voting? He should be banned from rating, too. But I digress. Thank you for your comments, everyone!

I'm voting no because Boringbike sucks and is a horrible game and some of the CPUs are obviously going faster than you so you are doing a terrible job at TASing this game. big red sarcasm flag here; actually voted no just for shits but greatly enjoyed the movie because whee speed.

I thought about trying to see if the game was improveable, but despite my lack of free time to do so, I doubt I'd do as well as JXQ. Superb job, and this is not "minor improvement". Yes vote!
