The only fanfic I ever actually followed was The Vinyl Scratch Tapes way back in the day. It was recommended to me. I seem to recall it be mildly diverting. (Other than that Cupcakes.)

This was very interesting. The constant zips and glitch warps made the game look more like Harmony of Dissonance than Aria of Sorrow. The resulting route is very interesting, and very unexpected. You never know where the TAS goes next. The execution is spot on, too, resulting in a very, very entertaining TAS overall. Easy yes vote. @thatguy: You should be able to watch the embed without a nico account. This is what I'm doing.

There is no GGHawk. SMS and GG (and the SG-1000) are all covered by SMShawk.

This looks like the site parser screwing up. The next question is if the GG version is sufficiently different to be published.

Very interesting. I'd been wondering what a Snake TAS might look like - unfortunately, without sound and at the typical pace, it's not that interesting. Maybe a version with good visuals and sound and adjustable speed would be good. At any rate, props to dwangoAC for finding a TASable game on TI-83.

So this is what Hotline Miami's oft forgotten TurboGrafx-16 prequel looks like... I'd like to thank the author for providing an encode, otherwise I probably would have missed what's a surprisingly interesting run. The pace started out pretty slow, but thankfully increased a lot the instant you picked up the running shoes. The game was fairly enjoyable to watch, with neat graphics and very cheerful sound, and the TAS looked very good as well. The routing choices are apparent, and the door boosts and water clips were pretty funny to look at. I also enjoyed using the beginning of level invincibility to sneak past some enemies, I would've loved to see that utilized more often. Just man, does the game drag on. After about 15 minutes, you get the feeling that you've seen everything the game has to offer. I would've wished for some more variety in either the levels or the gameplay, but that's not your fault. Overall, I do like the run enough to vote Yes. Each level taken on its own is fairly entertaining, it's just that one level after another begins to drag on after a while. Also, the music is way too damn cheerful for fighting what looks like the god of death.

Finally the MSX Metal Gear gets a TAS, and it didn't disappoint. The optimization in lag reduction and RNG manipulation show very well. Snake also appears a fair bit more triggerhappy compared to his NES counterpart. Overwall, this was a very nice watch. Voting yes.

Every frame, the game needs to read the controller ports to know what buttons the player has pressed on that particular frame. Bizhawk (and other emulators) detects that process, and will count a lag frame every time the game fails to do that, either because it was too busy or because input polling was disabled, for example when it is loading. This means that lag frames are part of the emulated game and not of your computer. On any solid emulator (like Bizhawk), they should always happen at the same moments. They can however differ between different emulators and emulator versions due to emulation differences. When TASing, you should try to keep the number of lag frames as low as possible, as lag frames generally indicate slowdown. I hope this helped.

Hi, KnucklesMaster368 Adding to what Samsara and MUGG said, you can upload your run to userfiles and post it on the forums before submitting to collect feedback before the fact. TASes on the workbench should be as close to perfect as possible. If you want to improve this movie, carefully examine the existing movie(s) and figure out how they can go as fast as they do. If you don't use it yet, learn how to use frame advance. Do not allow mistakes to persist, but try to correct them instead. Check out the various articles we have on TASing, as well as the Super Mario Bros. 3 Game Resources page (not entirely accurate for Super Mario Advance) here. Good luck.

Hi CatlyNat and welcome to TASvideos. For a first TAS, this wasn't bad at all. Unfortunately, this movie isn't up to the site's publication standards. It's very slow and unoptimal in a lot of places, whereas the movies that are submitted here should be as close to perfect as possible. You slow down in a lot of places unnecessarily and use pretty slow level routes. For example, in the Donut Plains ghost house, you can reach the exit a lot quicker by bouncing on one of the Boos. In Valley of Bowser 2, you can clip through the yellow floor moving up and down to clear the section much faster. Instead, you may want to upload it to userfiles and post it to the forum thread to get feedback. If you want to improve this movie, look at some of the other Super Mario World TASes on the site and carefully examine which tricks and strategies they use to complete the levels as quickly as they do. If you don't already know how to use it, you may want to learn how to use frame advance to get optimal input. You also want to use Ram Watch to make sure you're always at the highest speed you can be. We also have a Game Resources page where many Super Mario World tricks are explained. It explains things such as 49 hopping, which is the fastest way to move without a cape. It also has several useful RAM addresses to watch. I hope this helps you improve this movie. Good luck with future attempts.

I would argue that, if the hardest difficulty makes you collect more stuff, you should pick that for more interesting routing. Of course, that is unless there is nothing interesting about picking up extra collectibles, in which case you should go for the easiest difficulty. Incidentally, there is one game (An Untitled Story for the PC), where the difficulty setting influences how many items you need to collect to unlock the final area, leading to significantly different times and routes between runs, as you need to complete far more areas in harder difficulties. The difference is so big there's both "Easy" and "Masterful" runs for both types of routes. Maybe this game is similar.

Link to video I dare challenge you find a video game opening theme as badass as Turrican. Also check out the revised and somewhat richer sounding version of this track in the sequel. Misses that "Welcome to Turrican" though.

I don't rate movies because I don't believe I can accurately express a complex opinion influenced by subjective taste with two numbers. Picking a number, any number, just feels arbitrary. While I probably shouldn't complain about ratings I got myself, I do must say it is a fair bit of a bummer when movies you worked harder on get worse ratings than movies you worked less on. In a similar vein, movies being rated worse than the ones they improve. Makes it feel like the whole effort was for nothing.

This was an interesting TAS. Normally those wacky alternate goal choices for Super Mario Bros. tend to be very poor, like Minimum Score, or Beat the Game Twice or what have you, but this TAS stood out through its excellent optimization. The run displays a high degree of control over Mario and some really creative solutions for getting all coins in a screen quickly. The infinite loops were nifty at first, but began to drag on after a while. Voting yes for entertainment. Just that sped up Starman music. Oh god, why. (Also, I would be really curious to see the same run on Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, since the levels there are even more mazelike)

I don't know, I didn't watch it. That's for the judges to decide.
