Master Quest I thought was originally Nintendo 64, in Japanese (seems to be the TAS trend) ... the US version is only GameCube. In any case, all the TAS I've seen were just plain OoT... nobody's done Master Quest, which would be interesting. People have done Link's Awakening and LADX, can't see why OoTMQ would be passed over aside from just nobody's bothered.

Why? Isn't it the same route as normal OoT, only with longer boss fights?

No, the order taken in templates is completely different, for one thing. Plus there are new puzzles that wasn't there before (in the temples).

Any% doesn't even go to the donjons, it just goes straight to Ganon... We won't see the real differences.

Any% does the deku tree. But yeah, it's still going to be exactly the same as oot, so not sure why you'd do any%.

Wow. I totally forgot about the Deku Tree being a donjon because of how it's rushed in the TAS :o

Here's another WIP, a lot more optimised, of OoT MQ: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjCworW2L6Q

Nice Tompa. No RBA/WW makes more sense with MQ

I would float the ideas with, among others, our seasoned OoT TASers and the many other resident zelda experts like Tompa. IRC channel, etc. If submission here is one of your goals, better to have conferred and decided what you'll do with confidence before beginning work. Apologies if you already have done this. The main concern is category hell. We have an OoT all temples and all trials run with no RBA which still skips the DoT (and does dungeons in a convoluted order, including the deku tree as an adult). I am concerned that the strategy of most of the dungeons wouldn't change considering how much they have been broken. I imagine you're familiar with the run I mentioned so you know what I mean... the process of almost every dungeon is "collect the dungeon's item if it is necessary to the quest, then glitch through a wall and into the boss area loading zone, and damn 95% of the small keys and conventional doors". It's been a while since I played MQ but I'm concerned you'd still be skipping 90% of what makes MQ different regardless of restrictions.

Yeah, honestly i don't think there's any need to do anything but mst for mq, which is already being worked on by tylerartrip.

Very nice WIP, Tompa. This one will be a very nice TAS when finished! I ever wanted to see a run without those Bottle Adventure things :D

I kinda, sorta caused Tyler to restart like 3 times. That's what happens if you don't go over the route with other people. :D But the current route is solid, I think. So I hope we'll see a new WIP soon. It has been a while since he started with that route. No rba/ww/dot skip is pretty unnecessary, imo. That stuff is showcased in just the same way in MST. Ofcourse anybody who wants to TAS this game could TAS MST. Some healthy competition has never hurt. any%: depends on how different the deku tree actually is. There will probably be a different temporary flag that corresponds with the last gate in Ganons tower escape. So that could be interesting. Still if you want to do that, you have to work a lot on your optimization, poptart1234. That WIP is frankly horrible. ^^"

That's wrong. It was originally planned for the 64DD, but when that flopped Master Quest was scratched. What we (and the japanese) later got on the Gamecube is the very unfinished version of that game. That's why it is even glitchier than normal OoT. It never came out for the N64 anywhere.

After watching the MST WR, I had 2 thoughts: - Any% No RBA/WW seems like one of the few worth categories in MQ, since that category goes through Forest Temple (For the Bow), Shadow Temple and Spirit Temple. - The TASes of MQ should be done in the GC version (i.e. using Dolphin (Ow.)), so there is no mess when comparing real-time runs.

i agree that the any% no rba/ww category for mq does sound interesting to me but the part about mq being tas'd on the dolphin emulator sounds like a dumb idea imo since you got to go through that menu which wastes about a minute of time, so i think mq should be tas'd on mupen :)

But the N64 ROM is not even an official port, and that "waste of time" is legit. ...Maybe a judge should give his opinion of this matter. :p

No one is going to TAS it on Dolphin when it's not the fastest version. If you're worried about it not getting accepted to the site because the ROM was never officially released on an N64, don't be.

I don't think its the same case. The game you're mentioning was never released in ANY CONSOLE. OoT MQ has its official version, which is the GC one.

MQ is NOT a gamecube game. It's an n64 game. It runs in an n64 emulator on gc.
