Sup, I got bored yesterday and started to think about learning how to TAS. Actually it's way easier than I expected it to be (thx to risingtempest's short tutorial on youtube). Now I decided to do a TAS of Goemons Great Adventure aka. Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 2 (I think thats the European name). I did a short Testrun of the 1st level and I think it's worth a try. Testrun on YouTube I would try to do something like a 100% run (all passes I guess) without taking dmg (trying to throw in as much entertaining stuff as possible etc.) What do you guys think? Worth a try? Would you watch it? and is this game even fully playable in Mupen64? As far as I know the only bug that emulators had with the game was some texture problem in the underwater levels, but in the preview (when not pressing anything in the menu) it shows an underwater level for a short time and that looked pretty normal. ps: non-native english speaker /edit I know I messed with the brightness somehow^^

Why did you collect all of those coins? How come the jumping over those tall green things looks really delayed? But yeah I'd watch it. How long do you think the run would be?

I just tested how to TAS in general so this was a test for me to re-record, resume recording and all that stuff, nothing serious. I didn't tried to jump those green pipe things perfectly and I found out a bit later in that level how all that frame advanced stuff works so those can be done a lot faster I think, I didn't put much time into re-recording them. No idea how long the run would be, I just started to plan the route a bit and I'm still working on the plug-ins. And in overall I only finished the game once when I was a lot younger.

I would definately watch a 100% TAS. You should probably check out the SDA run to get a good scope of what 100% is, though. The runner I believe got everything. All health upgrades, weapon upgrades, all abilities, etc. Edit: Wait a minute...Am I thinking of the same game? >.>

nope, you're thinking of the wrong game :D as far as I know only all passes are needed for a 100% run of this game, please correct me if I'm wrong^^

Goemon's Great Adventure is a really fun game, but it will be a real challenge to TAS. Here's an old WIP I did to test somethings: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1821466331/GOEMONS%20GREAT%20ADV%20%28USA%29.m64 Somethings i noticed: A 2 player run is a must, the "piggyback" move and death abuse allows shortcuts on most stages. The downside is that Sasuke is just too fast for Goemon and Ebisumaru, they can't keep up, still need to test with Yae though. Jumping and using the projectile is faster than jumping and attacking with the main weapon, if you are damaged while in the air you get your jump back. Good luck

yeah I noticed that using projectiles is faster and getting damaged in the air is a huge help, big shortcut in the edo castle. so far I'm running in 1 player mode, I'm using a PS3 controller to play so I have no idea how to 2 player without breaking my hands several times a day. Anyway here's my wip so far http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1014719576/Goemon%27s%20Great%20Adventure%20EU.m64 I think for the first levels Goemon is the fastest character, mainly because of his double jump ability which can save much time. btw (using the same plug-ins) US Version: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/7189/romusa.png EU Version: http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/8054/eurrom.png Don't know why the water levels bug in the US version. It also only works with Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6. /edit don't take the first impact fight serious^^

I'd like to see a 2 player run, because it's more interesting and definitely faster than 1 player run. I found a small glitch which save a little time, and maybe we can complete the game without Goemon's chain pipe, I'll do more test.

nice glitch, but I doubt that we can skip the chainpipe http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/2920/starblocksnarutoroad.png there's already a starblock missing so we can't just jump it. also the chainpipe would be a part of a 100% game. anyway I f'd up my movie file, starting a two player game now.

mempak issue... so I just finished my 1player route planing run and it seems like the game won't recognize my Mempak when using N-Rages Direct Input 8 V2 1.whatever. Well, as long as I play without recording the game recognizes it, but as soon as I start recording it says the Mempak is damaged. TAS Input Plugin seems to have some problems too. Anyone any idea what to do? Because at the end of the Staff it shows my passes (still 2 missing before I should enter the last castle) but then stops. Is that because I didn't used a mempak for that test run from the beginning? (Already tested to plug it in later, but it won't let me save). Side-note: I really doubt a 2player run will be faster due to missing shortcuts (Edo Castle as an example) but it would be far more entertaining (and after finishing the last castle activating 3 and 4, I do think about doing that for the final run). The starblock glitch seems to work as 1player too, I had Goemon glitching into some blocks at one of those sky levels but I didn't managed to get that to work a 2nd time.

Hello.Nice to meet you. I love "DeroDeroDochu"(Goemon's Great Adventure). I'm researching it and terribly. And, JapaneseRom's"WIP" made on the way is here. http://www1.axfc.net/uploader/File/so/45729&key=goemon2 Please may refer. Passing is to our regret insufficient and it has become a re-doing from "Majinjo's front". However, it is while it is making it again now. By the way, a Japanese version is able to record even if there is no "Mempak".

Just watched part 1 and it's absolutely fantastic. The miniboss skip was very nice. Loved it.

Very nice test run, but is it possible to make the run 4-players like this?

I'm sorry. It is impossible. Because it is necessary to collect all entry pass. If it is a free run, it is possible to make it.
