Ninjas need to think beyond normal. *

Rockman is not a ninja, but I feel like one when I look at this movie.

I'm very proud of this movie. It took about 3 months to make, and I completely rewrote long parts of the movie many times, when I learned about new techniques - either by discovering them by myself or by hearing of them from Morimoto and finalfighter.

This movie combines a very wide variety of tricks and glitches - most of which deserve a separate webpage to discuss.
I'm absolutely certain that there is no human being who could play like this on an unaltered NES/Famicom console.
For people who would like to follow my trails, I warn about a really exhaustive learning experience. :)

In conclusion, this movie is 3.5 minutes (12644 frames) faster than the previously published Morimoto's version.
I thank Morimoto, Finalfighter and many of the people of #nesvideos for support and I await for Morimoto's upcoming Rockman 2 movie, which might be even more exciting than this one.
  • Movie length: 18:21 (66062 frames)
  • Rerecord count: 42566 (really)
  • Movie revision: 4
  • Game name: Rockman
  • Game version: Japanese
Route: Guts Elec Cut Ice Fire Bomb ...
Guidelines:
  • No wasted shots (some miss shots serve as luck control)
  • Played frame by frame where necessary to ensure frames are not lost in difficult sequences
  • Resources used as optimally as possible
  • Balance fun with speed, more weight on speed though
  • Health is a resource - use it
Tricks used:
  • Freeze shots by select/pause
  • Passing through enemies with select/pause
  • Regaining motion when hurt with select/pause
  • Horizontal early ladder grab
  • Vertical early ladder grab
  • Vertical screen wrapping bug
  • Optimal weapon refills with luck
  • Laddertop grab reaction abuse
  • Magnetbeam+ceiling trick
  • Safe jumping in Gutsman battles
  • Regaining motion when shooting in ladder by jumping
  • Postponing a jump over scrolling
  • Keeping the game light - avoiding things that cause lag
Software used:
  • Famtasia 5.1 with 60 fps and 240 scanline patches
  • Joe's Own Editor for manipulating the FMV file
Playing techniques:
  • This movie was made with 5% speed.
  • Faster speeds were used often for peeking forwards, but finally everything was almost always played at 5% speed.
  • 6 fully utilized quicksaves, 4 for desperate backups
  • Backed up the FMV file once in a while - total 140 backups reflecting the history
  • Making AVI of different versions and comparing them visually
  • Inspecting AVI files repeatedly to find things to improve
  • For the battle with Copy Robot, I used an editor program to duplicate sequences in the FMV file.
I humbly know that there are a couple places where I didn't play perfectly - totalling about 5 seconds might be saveable if they are played better. I'm not happy about that, but I don't feel like I'm going to fix it anytime soon. It's been so much work already.

Lastly, I want to create the AVI file for this movie myself. It will be about a week before I can do that though.

Ps: In the mean time, I have also produced 6 other Rockman movies... one for each robot master of the game, without using pause tricks or special weapons. I'm still thinking how to submit them.
