Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus is a 2D flip screen scrolling platform game released in November 1998 on the PS1 and PC. This movie is the first to reach a sub 37 minutes on the PSX version due to the more accurate PSX timing method used on this site which makes the run finish at 36:49, on the emulator however the old timing method is 37:14 which makes this movie 3 seconds faster on the emulator but with the new timing method this movie is actually 28 seconds faster than the current published run. We currently have an active speedrunning community on Discord and this year we have seen some new strats found that can be used in the PSX version of Exoddus. Ultimately the PC version is the fastest for the any% category with fancy glitches like the Advanced Relocation Glitch (ARG) but since we don't have a Windows TAS tool the PC version can't be TASed yet. Also the way the game ends is fixed in the movie where Abe is meant to die in the background and the screen goes back to the first screen of the Boiler.

Glitches Used

Auto Turn Delay

This glitch works by standing on the edge of the ledge and pressing the down button quickly and run towards a spot where you would like to hoist down. You will need to press either 'left/down' or 'right/down' depending on which direction Abe was facing.

Stop Turn and Backwards Jump

By timing this glitch perfectly you can make Abe stop and turn. To set it up, Abe needs to be standing near a ledge (pressing up whilst tunring arround) you will be able to make Abe do a backwards jump. Notice that when you press the opposite direction to where Abe is standing at the incorrect frame, Abe will just jump up and stand. But if you time it perfectly, Abe will jump backwards and possibly jump to another screen. This will allow you to jump backwards to areas and skip certain areas. Sligfantry's video can show you how this glitch works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIo1TJUBGlo

Roll into Walk

This glitch is only done in TASes and that's what makes Abe TASes unique. With just one frame, from a roll, Abe can automatically go into a walk. This is handy for positioning Abe towards a lever or towards a wheel.

QuikSave Gltich!

On QuikSaving and loading between certain frames, wheel lights can pause themselves temporary leading to a major skip glitch.

Improvements

Necrum Mines Tunnel 1

CrashingSnake discovered that it is faster to say "Hello" to the Mudokon on the second screen and then he will enter the bird portal faster.

Feeco Depot

The strat from the 100% run was done in this update.

Zulag 4 - Slogs

In the Slog section, I managed to save time here so that Abe doesn't hoist the ledge, he waits a little bit before climbing up the ledge.

Hub 2

The order from the 100% run starting with Zulag 8 first was added to this run.

Thanks

I need to thank CrashingSnake here for finding this new Tunnel 1 strat which would also be useful for the 100% run as well! Thanks again to everyone in the speedrunning community for finding all the new strats! Keep them coming!
Suggested Screenshot <will add later>

feos: Some frames were lost on the Glukkon(s?) but still not enough to make this new movie slower, because by then it was 73 frames faster. This slowly shrunk to 14, but in the end this run is still 88 frames faster. The game ends 86 frames faster. Still an improvement, accepting over [3544] PSX Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus by Samtastic in 36:51.44.
