Puss n Boot Pero's Great Adventure is a simple side scrolling game of the Toei Animation mascot, the animation studio behind Dragon Ball and one piece.
The game follows Pero visiting many different places around the world, from a wild west location to an underwater location, to going to Egypt, the UK, and America. There doesn't seem to be much of a story narrative wise.
Jumping is much faster in this game as long as the screen can scroll. For whatever reason the game does not let you go any faster unless the screen scrolls, that's why in some later stages we don't jump right away.
Pero has 3 attacks he can do, from using a gun, to using bombs, to using boomerangs. The bombs are the more powerful weapon and are often used for the bosses.

feos: It's kinda hard to fairly judge a run that you've improved by 20 frames by slightly tweaking jumps, so I'll unclaim this and request co-authorship instead.

Memory: I found a ram address, and still couldn't find any improvements in an hour or two and that's waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much effort for me to want to continue the bit.
