Imagine spyro 3 any% except we do NOTHING fast and only be stupid and silly.

Game objectives

  • Emu: Bizhawk 2.7
  • Be extremely silly and wacky and bonkers

Comments

In celebration of april, me and JT teamed up to make a TAS to sequel the spyro 1 silly% tas, which shows off nearly every cool and barely known glitch in the game

Stage by stage comments

Sunrise spring

So basically we do a lil sprodering and wallgliding, as well and getting proxied from going underneath thin planes of water. I also show off the little rainbow orb which generates Biancas trail as well as a swim in air into seashell.

Seashell shores

This will be applicable to most levels, but anyway, we do a ton of proxies off fodder, barrels, enemies, CANNONS EVEN. After we proxy and enter sheila early, if you pause on the first frame you can and then charge and unpause, you can control spyro instead of being pulled into the text/cutscene. If we die after doing this, the game spawns us in as spyro instead of sheila which is pretty wacky. I get a couple proxies and leave.

Molten crater

This was fun, shoutout to JT for this theory. If youve seen spyro 2 youll know gulp skip, where you clip halfway into the wall so you can go out of bounds. We actually come in from out of bounds, and land on the right pixels so we dont clip back in. We slowly make our way to the end of level. oh yeah a couple swag proxies too :) .

Exiting molten

Sheep. (extremely precise)

Cloud spires

mm cloud so we do proxies off the bat of course. Then after a lil playing around we get sent extremely high up, so high in face we get to see the textures of the level super high in the air. This is caused by a coordinate wrap i think (i will ask JT later)

Sheilas alp

zzzZZZzzz honk shoo honk shoo (we have to finish this because we have to do any%)

Sunny villa

This took a lot of rerolling, but we proxy in to the back of the skateboard portal at such an angle that the game almost crashes, and it causes VRAM corruption. When I rerolled it to pink i freaked out, ive never seen the screen do something like that before. The rest of the level is just running around i guess.

Buzz

funny proxy go boing

Enchanted towers

proxy go boing but a lot of them. OH YEAH and the game fade out interrupt. If you get the camera to focus on an enemy at the right time the game cant fade out and it stays dimmed.

SGT Byrd

A few months back I found a way to get the weights to teleport. Thanks to HWD405 checking the code, this is caused by: "performing some sort of check a couple times (they seem to be ray traces, but I don't know what for yet) and if one of the checks returns a nonzero result (which I think means a check failed?) then it moves the weight to a location stored in some specific variable, which seemingly holds the position that Sgt. Byrd is currently targeting (which usually matches Sgt. Byrd's current position, the wall in front of him, or a Moby). Why it does this isn't entirely clear but it seems to be a failsafe of sorts. And indeed, forcing one of these checks to always return zero does result in the behaviour seen in the glitch. If I had to guess, I think when the two weights are inside eachother, one of the rays from one of the weights is perhaps colliding with the other weight and causing those checks to fail. Needless to say, there doesn't seem to be very much potential in using this glitch, since it only ever moves the weight around and never writes an- WOAH SHUT UP HWD!!!!! I SWEAR IM GONNA FIND ACE I SWEAR!!!!!!!&36wetgtg73ywqtured

Spoopy swamp

mmm proxy

Bamboo terrace

mmm proxy AND we get the egg thiefs invisible egg which is kinda wacky.. i think..

Icy peak

Awesome ice wall momentum speed conservation proxy (not a proxy) into a proxy (a proxy) it looks really cool. Then we get nancy wacked because its really awesome.

Spike

If you hit him close enough you can get under his feet and proxy up onto things like the whirligig which is still solid :D

Frozen alters

I found out the campfires give you ungodly speed for no reason so i did that a bunch, and then also PROXIES WOWW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fireworks factory

This levels heat, i followed greta and got her to push and proxy and boost me all over the place its awesome. At the end cutscene where she goes matrix mode shes programmed to somewhat lock onto the enemy at the start of the hallway. We exploit that and kill the guy in the right spot so that she just clips and falls and dies (not really). I also included the clip i found in Agent 9s area which i couldnt use in 100 egg, its a long fall. sorry.

Bentleys outpost

ngl i copied and pasted the 100 egg inputs bc that level sucks. still an okay watch

Lost fleet

we ride the whale before we enter which was fun to find out i could do, and then its a proxy fest in there fr. I also trigger an unused piece of dialogue with crazy ed when we're on the ships nose (ty jeremy) and then go over to surf on the birds.

Charmed

get owned money bags

Scorch

You can keep getting hit up from Buzz because his hitbox reaches infinity, then i found out you can proxy off Scorch who is solid lmao

Crystal islands

lot of bear proxies and another VRAM corruption :D

Desert ruins

humina humina AWOOGA. I manipped the camera on the egg for the funny awesome camera angle. Also we get zombie in sheila which allows us to ignore water in the shark level and ride the sharks. cowabunga. ALSO at the end i go dive down to die but you can see an unused door. wacky.

Sorceress fight

Ok, theres a reason this parts 10 minutes long. sheep. a lot of sheep. so many sheep in fact that we uhh.. kill the whole game.

Other comments

haha this took 3 months hahaahhahahaha now i have to do a write up of the spyro 1 silly% tas too AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

ThunderAxe31: I here appeal to the right of evaluating this production.
ThunderAxe31: File replaced with a version that delivers the finishing blow to the final boss.
As I mentioned in the submission thread, being silly in the way you play is the literal definition of playaround. And we allow playaround movies for publication, as well as other forms of freeplay, given they meet some requirements.
Until now, we had a hard rule of requiring a playaround movie to actually beat the game and display the ending sequence in its entirely, just like for fastest completion goals. Since I figured out that this was a very old rule and it didn't seem to completely make sense to me, I brought it up to the rest of the judge team and we agreed that we want to give more freedom of choice for freerun goals. For this reason, we now have changed the relative rule and we now allow the authors to decide how to end their movie, as long as it makes sense as a stylistic choice.
In this case, the game freezes itself right after the final boss appears to be defeated in the relative cutscene, so it makes sense for a movie that it's supposed to kid the game around by breaking its laws. For the rest, the movie stays coherent to its goal through the whole run, and it's overall more than enough entertaining for the freeruns requirement. As such, accepting as a new branch for Alternative!
Regarding the branch label, I'll leave the decision to the publisher team. I'll just note that that this movie achieves both fooling around and showcasing glitches, so it's probably gonna be something along these lines.
