Bugaboo is very much like the modern game called Jump King.
Machine-translated from the original Spanish manual: You have to help Bugaboo get out of the bottom of the cave where he has fallen. Be careful with the winged monster that lives in the cave.
Bugaboo (The Flea) was one of the first home computer games to contain a cutscene. It was also one of the first games to measure the player's time to completion.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.9.1
  • Aims for fastest time

Previous record on YouTube did 11 jumps and finished in 00:19.
This TAS makes 8 jumps and finishes in 00:14.
This TAS makes 10 jumps and finishes in 00:12. It is faster to make more jumps and avoid useless horizontal scrolling.
This TAS makes 9 jumps and finishes in 00:10.
Pressing "G" skips the intro cutscene and starts the game. It is done at frame 12225. Different ROM versions have loading time differences, so if you want to make an encode on different version you can adjust "G" by inserting or removing blank frames. The original Spanish version is called La Pulga.
I wish C64 expert nymx or somebody else does the C64 version called Boogaboo.

nymx: Replacing movie file with an improvement.
nymx: Replacing again with more improvements.

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Interesting...most of the movie is loading and trying to get past the title screen. Obviously, I tested to see if any inputs would get past some of the slow start up stuff...and nothing. As for the game play, I think it speaks volumes that 757 re-records were made to get this right, over the 10 seconds that this run last. I can't see a way to make this better, since it already looks amazing.
