Introduction

In this timeless classic, the tyrant Jaffar has seized power and has forced the Sultan's daughter to marry him. You, the brave youth who is a prisoner in Jaffar's dungeons must rescue her within 60 minutes. Unlike [5206] DOS Prince of Persia by eien86 in 13:59.15 the hero in this movie aims to take full revenge on ALL his captors by killing them all and, as if that wasn't enough, also drinking all their beverages.

Information

I took the small end-of-year vacation week to work on this movie. I took a more relaxed approach than my sub-12 any% movie and just decided to have fun.
The purpose of 100% as defined by the is to beat the game having drank all potions and killed all guards. This movie abides by the category rules of the PoP1 speedrunning community, with a couple exceptions:
  • This movie includes the copyright level, which is not considered in the RTA category. This level contains many potions with only one being the 'correct' one that opens the exit door to continue with the game. One can drink at most one incorrect potion without dying and failing the copy protection. This means, it is impossible to drink all potions in this level. After discussing with the community, we decided to simply ignore this level for this category and just leave it as fast as possible. For this I used the same system clock manipulation as in the any% movie to ensure an initial RNG that assigns the closest potion as the correct one.
  • The RTA rules indicate that the skeleton in level 3 must be dropped into a pit. This rule was written before it was discovered (during the work of this movie) that you can ACTUALLY kill the skeleton. The solution in this movie
  • Also in level 3, it is possible to restart the level at a checkpoint (only level where this is possible). After the checkpoint the new maximum HP is stored, which means it is possible to double-drink the big potion. This movie does not restart since it suffices for this category to leave the level 'clean' of potions. This applies also for RTA.
You will note that I enable and disable the sound at the end and start of each level. This is done to skip the end of level jingle that wastes IGT time. I re-enable it to play the guard kill and potion drink jingles, which is necessary to confirm kills, especially when the kill happens outside the screen (level 2 first guard, level 9 last guard).
You will also note strange sounds during level transitions. This is me pressing 'Enter' multiple times to skip the cutscenes which causes a keyboard buffer saturation and system beeps.
