Introduction
Ghoul Panic (Oh! Bakyuuun in Japan) is Point Blank but you get to be a furry. It was developed by Raizing (now known as Eighting) and published by Namco for arcades in 1999, with a port to the PlayStation coming out the next year.
Players use a lightgun to complete a series of minigames, done by firing at on-screen targets. In these minigames, there is an objective that must be fulfilled before the time runs out such as shooting a certain amount of enemies or protecting small yellow cats from projectiles.
This TAS tackles the PlayStation-exclusive Adventure mode, which doesn't follow the typical level structure of the Arcade mode and instead puts more of an emphasis on exploration, with completion of the minigames rewarding you with items which allow you to progress or make things a little easier for yourself.
Run Comments
3F
The items you can get are in fixed locations every time you play, so the exploration segments themselves are RNG-free.
Every floor requires you to clear one minigame in order to get the item that allows you to access the boss room. In this case, 3F's boss room is blocked off by a set of iron bars, so we need to beat a minigame to get pliers for said iron bars.
Mummy is as simple a boss as you can get: Just wail on him until he dies.
2F
Frankie has two phases: One where he bounces around on his pogo stick, and one where he roids up. For his second phase, you want to land as many shots on the X on his belly for double damage.
1F
Vladie also has two phases. His weak point for the first phase is his head, though it's not really worth shooting him there until his health is almost down to the halfway point. For the second phase, we just wail on him as he's driven batty. (Bad joke, I know)
B1
Witchina can be pretty tricky to optimise due to how the ghosts she summons to act as a force-field and the electric balls she uses to attack you.
During Mama Mia, I deliberately take damage from the maggots for the sake of getting more hits in on her. Also, she pops right back up just as all the fireballs she sends your way are destroyed.
Potential Improvements
Obviously less than three minigames where the timer is fixed. Not that it matters for this mode's borked IGT though, it only counts exploration segments. It doesn't even count the time you spend during bosses? What a meme.
