Overview

Super Mario Star Scramble 3 is the fourth and final (at least now) in the Flash series of Star Scramble games. It is actually significantly different from it's predecessors, both visually and mechanically. The plot is still the same, Mario has to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. This movie aims for 100% completion of this game, and it achieves that goal roughly 2 minutes (it's complicated) faster than the RTA world record by Xstryder.

What's different about this run

In this category of the game, I have to not only complete all levels, but also grab all pink blocks in the first ten levels, which unlocks a secret level themed after Super Mario Land.

Notes

Most of the necessary information is already present in the submission notes of the baseline TAS, so I won't repeat them here. Instead, I'll just make some notes:
  • The pink blocks give 800 points each, totaling 2400 points per stage. This is relevant because, in case you forgot, the more points you have (in multiples of 500), the longer it takes for the end screen of the level to finish. Seeing as 100 points (2500-2400) is a pretty strict amount of extra points to get, minimizing points is way less important. Still, it's something I have to keep in mind.
  • The hitbox of a pink block is way bigger than it looks. Sometimes I'm able to grab a pink block while being nowhere close to touching it, such as in level 9.
  • In level 1, I have to take a different route because of the first pink block.
  • In the beginning of stage 10, a jump from the floor where the thwomp lands to the brick block is theoretically possible, but only as small Mario, for some reason (at least in Adobe Flash Player, I didn't test it on Ruffle but I honestly assume that it wouldn't work even if Mario was small).
  • That Paragoomba slide though.
  • The jump to grab the last star in level 12 was actually really precise, seeing as I need enough speed to land on the middle block and not fall.
  • I actually found a small time save in the final boss. Using that Goomba actually let me end inputs a few frames earlier than if I were to just jump on the block like last time.

Extras

Thanks
Special thanks to CasualPokePlayer for creating a script that allowed me to see how many units I moved every frame, even if the script wasn't explicitly made for this game. This run (and the run this script was made for) would be way worse if it wasn't for this script.
The future
This is the last TAS of the Star Scramble series. I can't believe it has been over a year since I made the TAS of the first game, time really does fly by.
