Except 999999 isn't the max score in SMB1. 9999950 is. Which is impossible in one life even with max spamming of the shell-and-stairs trick. Even on Vs. SMB, where, when doing the trick, after one 1UP, the points go back down to 8000 and stay there. <_<' And said score gets reset upon starting the second quest in the NES version; you only get to keep it into the next quest in the All-Stars version, I think. ...Actually I think the score counter rolls over at 10 million, too. Been a while since I checked that though.

The only thing that triggers the door to appear is time; you just have to avoid her until the door shows up. Not so easy on some levels. :p

That run was canceled by the author, and now falls under the "Non-acceptance of movies by banned authors," so that won't see the light of day.
Uh, yeah, about that rule. I've been thinking about it, and I think I should bring this up/ask this before the worst-case scenario I'm about to describe actually goes and happens... ...Is it retroactive? For example, say someone with a lot of published runs, like adelikat, goes rogue and gets himself spectacularly historically perma-banned (yes, of course I know this would never actually happen, lol). Would all of his already-accepted-and-published runs get removed? Because if so, that also opens up a new can of worms: what happens in the case where the banned author is one of multiple authors for a run? Does his name get simply removed from those runs and they stay up, or something like that, or do those runs get removed too? But then, if you avoid all this by saying the rule isn't retroactive after all and leave all the runs up, that's basically accepting runs from a banned author. See the problem? :p

    - Beats of Rage, or one of the many mods made for the engine. Preferably something with more than 2 players; probably the full 4 the newer versions of OpenBOR support. - BurgerTimes: Weird retro-looking BurgerTime clone with many different levels and 2-player simultaneous play. Might be interesting to see the players working together to own groups of enemies in record time. :p - Super Mario Bros. DDX: Solid SMB1/2J-style Mario fangame. Gets quite hard near the end, too. :p - Rockman 2 de Ippatsu Neta. Yeah, that thing. One run with weapons and with whatever settings allow for the quickest kills, and one buster-only run on the hardest possible settings. - N. Maybe do a gallery of amusing deaths on some custom levels, too? :p - Zelda Classic. Between the quest databases at Armageddon Games and PureZC, and if you could get most versions between 1.92 and 2.10 working, there'd be a near-endless supply of Zelda 1-ish games to TAS. :)

I think both should be done, eventually, as they each have their advantages: a real-time run would be shorter due to the lack of pausing, while the in-game-time run would get to show off the various weapons more.

*whacks Cardboard upside the head with a giant iron dildo* Let's not drag our gender's reputation through any more mud, now, eh? :3 But yeah, Joystiq gave DNF a 2 out of 5, lol. Seems like the crude humor's the only redeeming factor the game's got going for it, if you can even call it redeeming (which you probably can't). :p

...Oh, I didn't post in this thread? I thought I did. <_< Loved all the new glitching through walls in the castle levels, and the overall increase in action over the old run. Easy yes vote. :)

Yeah, it'd probably be easier to just do the Playstation Complete Works versions instead. Those have pretty much all the features the Anniversary Collection versions have, except without the screwed-up sound in some of the games (and backwards controls, but that's hardly an issue for a TAS, lol). :p

I figured the no voter was just the usual troller that always votes no as soon as a new run is submitted. :p (I voted yes, btw. Awesome run. :D)

Link to video Link to the playlist of the whole thing. Guy makes a pretty convincing argument, I think.

Seeing where a character is going is not required to make an entertaining run; the Sonic and Megaman runs have proven that, what with their broken physics. I personally felt the new camera work presented a fresh, new feeling of wackiness that perfectly fits the game's atmosphere as it gets broken to hell. It's like the Lakitu holding the camera is hopped up on some serious caffeine or other drugs. This type of..."artistic rebellion", I guess would be a good phrase to use here...should be done more often, in my opinion. Yes vote. EDIT: Wait, what? The run has more than twice as many yes votes than nos...that doesn't match up with the verbal beatdowns in this thread. It seems those who hate the camera work are actually the minority, not the other way around...<_<

I propose that the subtitles for the encode of the finished run include a running count of how many big health and ammo drops were given...that last room before the boss looked especially absurd, lol. :p

Or you could just add "takes no damage" to the run's goals. Though I think Mr. Perfect would look more impressive done on hard mode, especially since such feat's been done unassisted before. Maybe save Mr. Perfect for the hard Bass run? What you've done so far looks awesome, though. :)

I agree with what a few others in this thread have said:
  • The effects of using continues differ for each individual game, just like the effects of dying or taking damage, and thus each case should be separately considered.
  • Coin insertion simply is just another form of input, like the reset button, and should be taken advantage of IF it produces a more entertaining result than a single-credit run would. (Which I'm sure wouldn't be all that often, but eh. :p)

Speaking of which, maybe the entered name should have "TAS" in it somewhere, in case some troll decides to upload the run onto the actual leaderboards or something...<_<'

Yeah, if I remember right 1-3 has a unique invisible object there which specifically triggers the transition to the whistle mushroom house if Mario is behind the background, so 1-3, being the only level in which said object was placed, would be the only place where it would work. :/

I think if anyone can help you out with that, it would be the regular posters in this thread at board2. Though it hasn't been posted to in a while...but it's the only real hotbed of SMA4-related activity that I know of. :/

ahahaha, great. I think this run really personifies TASing pushing a game to its limits, what with Mario directly performing memory hacking on his own reality. It's like he found out about the Matrix. :p

Glorious. So fucking glorious. ROCKMAN HAS ENDED THE EVIL DOMINATION OF ORDER AND RESTORED THE WORLD TO GLITCHED. HOWEVER, THE NEVER ENDING BATTLE CONTINUES UNTIL ALL GAMES ARE GLITCHED. GLITCH, ROCKMAN! FOR EVERLASTING TASES! Not even bothering to vote yes since this is obviously INSTANT PUBLISH GO GO GO
