You should either go for pure speed or pure entertainment - anything in between is a bit disappointing. Also, while fighting game speed TASes are disliked by many, they are still a legit run category. So if you know you can make a purely faster TAS of this game, go for it. I liked the run and the silly ring outs. While sub-optimal (or so I hear), this could already be good enough to be Vaulted at least.

This kind of TASes make me remember why I like TASes. Yes vote.

So, you mean: if a fighting game is on many different consoles, for example the original Mortal Kombat that is on SNES, Genesis, Arcade, etc... how do you define the best port which to use for TASing? It is often a game-specific decision. If there is enough difference between ports, I'd say both games count as their own category. If there isn't much difference, like SNES and Genesis Mortal Kombat, then it is difficult to estimate which is better. If other port has some new glitch or a little mechanics change that allows a faster completion, I'd say that the faster port should be preferred. Using an in-game password or a cheat code to unlock a special difficulty is allowed, at least in some cases. A speed TAS of a fighting game need not worry about entertainment at all. All that matters is that is is fast.

A cool run. Like the way you took apart the entire game to get to a result this fast. For what it's worth, I think board, sports and game show games should primarily be considered "serious games" and be eligible for Vaulting. Why block out entire game genres like this? It's already required that a Vaultable game should have an ending and that its gameplay should stand out as something superhuman (among the other rules). If those rules are fulfilled, by all means, it shouldn't matter what genre the game is.

Based on a quick test, a single flawless victory screen wastes 107 frames. If you could take damage in under 107 frames, you would save time. I like the idea of speed fighting game TASes. I don't know much about UMK3, though, so it's hard to comment on how optimal this run is strategy-wise. But thumbs up for the effort.

That announcer needs to take a chill pill... Gameplay looked precise, so perhaps vault this one.

Good game choice, and a good TAS. I thought it was entertaining from the start to the end. Yes vote.

I went and listened to a seminar of Ari Pulkkinen today - he's the guy who made sounds & music to Angry Birds and the Trine-games for example.

Winx Club! \m/ Sure, I liked the run. Nice to see all these glitches used, just a pity we couldn't get Red Fountain early to work. Maybe some day. Guess it's a yes vote.

No, I wasn't recording a movie. I guess that should bring more clarity to things the next time I start playing Konquest-mode.

As mentioned on irc... >>Almost sounds like savestates don't properly save/restore memory card state? Yeah. >>Is it possible to dump memory card so one could try to analyze what is going on? Don't know. Programming/debugging is something I know very, very little about.

I think I'll do one more deeper examination if a particular skip or a style of glitch doesn't cause this profile damage to occur. The game first auto-saves, then as the loading screen to next area appears, it starts complaining about a profile damage and halts your game. On some occasions it has helped to load a good older save state and complete some objective in it, then switch back to a newer save state. It's not possible to turn off the autosaving function, which is a darn shame.

I've continued by researching MK: Deception's Konquest-mode. I have to make a movie file of it anyway eventually (for an all character playaround TAS), so why not just make a TAS of it? Unfortunately, my progress is halted by save corruption. For some reason my profile becomes corrupt every once in a while. I've tried to play through the segments of this game with and without major skips, but eventually I always hit a profile corruption snag. I'm thinking there is something wrong here that transcends savestates... Example: - I have a savestate in Outworld - go from Outworld to Nexus, auto-save - go from Nexus to Orderrealm, auto-save... error message! profile is damaged. - I reload the savestate - go from Outworld to Nexus... error message! profile is damaged. (got the error message sooner than the first time around, despite loading the same savestate) Also, at this point, most other savestates from the last hours may also start showing the "profile is damaged"-message if the game attempts to autosave. What can be done to prevent this error from occurring in the future? Maybe backing up the memory card file...

I didn't know this game previously. It looks like a clunky old RPG, and... I'm grateful for whatever glitchy magic you did to make it end this quickly. "Meh" for entertainment.

I don't know this game, but it seems to have nice music. Using an in-game cheat code that gives you an advantage is pretty dubious and un-TASlike. Typically things like cheats or passwords aren't allowed in a run. You should make sure if using the code can be justified in this case before continuing, lest you have to restart once more.

Awesome glitch, but the run was not too entertaining - therefore voting meh. In any case, good job for another early credits call... those seem to be a hot trend these days.

It's a decent and quite long JRPG for DS. Probably won't TAS it myself, but started this topic just in case. From my playthrough, I noticed that you can avoid all random battles by going to the menu at a right time. Should be quite useful, as fighting anything is slow. The exp system works in an interesting way in this game. Going underleveled somewhere, you'll grow to the area's standard level after fighting just one or two battles. After that, exp gains start to become negligible. It might be worthwhile to go out of your way to fight fights in a higher level area because of this (Mount Svatgol is the best chance to do this?). Very fast level gains are guaranteed, and levels do matter tons in this game, influencing both your survivability and damage you do a lot. However, the maximum exp you can gain from a battle is around 7500-8500 exp, translating to around 7 or 8 levels, so there is a limit to what just one fight can do. Probably won't be worth it to get an elevator to your castle? While this saves running time between floors, and you can purchase some damage dealing items from the recruited character (the usefulness of which is questionable?), the quest to recruit the character is slightly out of the way.

A nice, glitchy improvement. The parts on foot are really entertaining, while the vehicle section aren't as much. It still rounds up to being a recommendable run, so a yes vote.

These classic NES Mega Man games were a part of the reason I got into TASing, and it's always nice to see their runs improved. Yes vote.

Good work for finishing this. This seems to be quite an ambitious game for GB with all these cutscenes and level effects, etc. Shame about the lag, though. As far as entertainment goes... I was not super entertained by the run. The overall slow pace and lack of a glitchy flair got to me. While a good run of an ostensibly good game, I got to give it a 'meh'.

Good to see more glitched Mega Man. Yes. Wouldn't mind seeing the remade games TASed as well, if they can be as glitchy as this run.

Hey! ...I actually liked this run. Thought it was ridiculous thanks to the constant glitching, like how the premature helicopter always rescued your character from inside walls. Good work.

It's a decently fun run. The voice acting is so bad it's surreal. The action is bloody and varied enough. Sure, it gets a yes from me.

Ah, it's this game. I've actually played it through. This run uses the E version of the game... but it looks like the game wasn't even published anywhere else, so that's fine. The run is probably good enough to publish. Slightly worried about extra lag from shooting powered up shots and other small stuff, but things mostly look to be in order. It's not super entertaining due to the length of the game and the lack of variety. Meh in this regard.
