I see how those lua scripts work, but I'm curious because they don't seem to be doing any manipulation of input during testing. They just invoke the action and check the results. Does this mean that the only variable that is being tested for effect is the game's frame count?

Wow janus, you're working on two RPG TASes at the same time? You're a beast. :)

Wow, you have made it quite far. Nice work. Of course, if you defeated Xe-la-thoul that means you're stuck in the air castle which is where the previous TASer got stuck. Good luck with the big boss man.

Looks good so far, antd. Keep up the great work. I get such a kick out of seeing the conversations between T, B, and C. T: B, go after C! Haha. It's kind of cute.

I'd second the notion the entertainment tradeoffs aren't really worth it. I would also agree with testing lashiec, because iirc that is what stopped Freenom's run.

Awesome job! Will you be posting a WIP or youtube link in the near future?

I'll test all the possible date scenarios and go with whatever is fastest.
Woah. Does that mean you have to maintain three (or four with yuffie) save states at all times during your TAS development until you get to the date scene? I can't imagine it would be easy to try to go back and hex edit in the key choices.

There are a few other scenes which can be 'skipped' too - these are proven to work. It will be more entertaining if I don't tell you about them here though :)
I wonder if you're considering the "get quadra magic without a chocobo" one. That could save quite a bit of time once you have the highwind. I suppose it's a bit early to be discussing that stage of the TAS ;-)

The problem is that those who modified Mupen for rerecording never really changed the title bar nor the about dialog to read anything other than 0.5. My guess is that MrGrunz is using v8 with a patch applied, which I can't find. MrGrunz or ComicalFlop: can you just host your mupen exe on a file sharing site so I can grab and test? EDIT: Thanks for the build below. It gets further for me this time.

Looks ok. When you sell stuff in the stores it looks incredibly slow. Are you sure you can't confirm the price right away instead of waiting for a second each time? That's the only thing I saw in this segment.

MrGrunz: I tried your all temples tas with the reset-rerecording v2 patch from the mupen64 forum, but it didn't work any better. That was the only patch I could find. Could you host the version you're using to create the vid, or direct me to a place to get it or the patch?

MrGrunz: Same ROM and plugin settings caused it to sync all the way until you paused after getting the kokiri sword. After you left the menu it was no longer synced for me.

Hmm. You might be right - though I would test fire breath damage without barrier to be sure. For some reason I had the idea that it was only energy attacks from techs that barrier guarded against.

Wow, I had my doubts that you'd be able to beat Juza with no leveling. Nice. It looks like you cast barrier with demi in the gy-laughiah fight - I'm pretty sure that's unneeded since it's only defense against energy-based attacks.

I voted "meh" because the movie doesn't do a very good job at its objective of "aiming for fastest time." You spend a lot of time killing enemies that don't need to be killed. When you land a special blow on enemies, the game freezes for a few frames for effect. This causes you to lose a lot of time in your movie. A lot of the boss fights and general movements were also non-optimized. It was still mildly entertaining though.

You may as well go for the robot upgrades. You can manipulate how many battles in those areas you want to fight to level, so it shouldn't be too long to get through them.

I'd agree with the 100% + entertainment run. Of course, I'd most like to see a pure speed run since there has yet to be a single published ps4 tas yet :( Whatever you choose, though, I'll support it. I love this game!

I agree with the post above. There should be no reason to talk to the statue. Additionally, right when you first get control of chaz, you should go into the pause menu and set talk and battle speed to max. That cost you some frames in the boss battle. Keep it up though. I love this game and I love watching WIPs!

SmilingJack's video is a compilation of the best records - not a single game run. Yes, you can save replays in the Monkey Ball games. You can also practice any stage - and these records were created by playing a stage hundreds, or more likely thousands of times each to obtain the best score.

Specs: Core 2 Duo @ 2.7GHz Nvidia Geforce 7900GT Windows XP 32 bit SVN build 2648: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz: DX9 plugin: 50+ fps in-game OGL2 plugin: 50 fps menus; 35-40fps in-game (depends on the resolution) I can't believe I'm able to play a current generation console game that I own on an emulator at reasonable speeds. Truly remarkable.

That was exceptional. Did you guys jump to the other side of the lake hylia bridge before speaking to the owl to time daybreak?

Great! Post here if you need input. I know there are a bunch of people including myself following this thread. I just played through the game on Wii Virtual Console, so I'm refamiliarized with it.
