Well how about that, the PAL intro almost makes sense. Although I've no clue who the bloody hell that "second" birdman is supposed to be, the game doesn't even have a 2 player mode...oh well, that's action game story for ya.

Lyn's...quest? But isn't that like doing a run of a tutorial? Because that's all people consider it to be.

Gets a bit farther before losing progress. Oh how I love the bitchy world of Genesis rerecording.

Luck manipulation in this game is strictly based on stuff like resetting and what kinds of actions you perform, so ultimately it might not be as fast as you might think. Regardless, the current SDA speedrun has animations turned off, so you might want to consider doing that for a better comparision.

I knew about the counter force effects, except I can't remember which the yellow triple laser is. You can block (destroy) a lot of mines and missiles with it too.
The yellow triple lasers are shot by flowers(?) that spring up from the water in the water area, and the water area boss that acts like a fan/windmill and throws marine life at you.

Other than manipulating enemy actions and thus preventing Chuckinator from performing the only unavoidable attack in the game as well as getting some rare enemy drops, M&L has very little to benefit from randomness manipulation. There's no random damage variation, and all the enemy attacks except for the exception given above can be avoided completely with good timing.

After playing the game again, I remembered that the Counter Force is a lot more versatile than it seems: in addition to turning small bullets into health, it has other interesting effects on enemy projectiles. It reflects those black spiky mines into the enemy for 300+ damage, it does the same to the yellow triple lasers except it reflects them in a spread, and it destroys those light brown blocks Destroyer MK2 shoots at you. Probably knew it but might as well check.

Well, the setup I always used in my normal games was Buster, Homing, Flame, Lancer, not sure how well that'd work. I don't suppose the max ammo and max health increases speed things up any? There's also the issue of phoenix teleport for boss pwnage vs. regular teleport for evasion and for faster overall movement, but you need to find convinient spots to get the extra health prior to bosses, in addition to filling it back up if you choose to take any hits to save time. A bunch of bosses shoot bullets that Counter Force works on, so maybe they can be manipulated into doing that a lot. Also, I don't know if there's any real difference between Buster and Sword other than bullet size, both seem to be rapid-firing weapons with no immediately apparent differences, so I'd like it if someone told me the difference between them.

...no, I don't. All I got is a bunch of U and J versions with unintelligble letter specifications.

What the hell kind of a version is that supposed to be, there's no A versions in this romset or any with the "h" specification.

I'm not sure if I've already brought this up, but why hasn't anyone made a TAS for this kickass game? It's fast as hell, probably faster than any other sidescrolling shooter I recall seeing, is played on a strict time limit and consists almost entirely of boss battles. I bet you could make some great-looking stunts using the hero's ability to teleport across the screen and walk on the ceiling. Why am I not doing it? Unfortunately I don't have any experience with Genesis games to speak of, and the games seem to desynch far more than my limited patience would take.

Well, killing him nets you the Ultma(te) Boots that have the skills of all the other boots combined, so you could spend the last 2 stages or so abusing the hell out of shadowdash, doublejump and whatnot...

Looks good, can't find much to complain about. Nice that there was at least some chip and exskill usage, the SDA MMZ2 run had no exskills used. Is yes.

I'm pretty sure listening to the starfish's song in Monstro Town is a mandatory event, if you don't do it prior or after talking to Monstermama, she just keeps telling you to go see the star upstairs.

Sure, you want one now, but before you know it, you want another and yet another. For me, all hope is already lost, as I am hopelessly addicted to ROMs. But you, a shining example of a young model citizen, you still have hope. Just...don't start. ROMs are a path to ruin. Please. For your own sake.

Also, terrain's not that major of a factor in either of those, other than maybe criticaling/shieldpushing enemies off a high elevation and killing them that way. I'd suggest FE mainly because TO AI seems to take way too damned long to decide what to do on its turn, while FE AI just rushes right in. Also, FE fights go by a lot quicker due to skipable animations that both SDA runs use, although not having a SRAM with game beaten eliminates the ability to speed up movement animations by holding down A.

"In FE you can't run out of weapon use in the middle of a fight. Even if you have a weapon with just one use left, it can be used twice in one fight. " Uh. I don't know what version of FE you've been playing, but I've run out of weapon uses in middle of a duel (I attack with one use left and have enough speed to hit twice, I hit once, the weapon breaks and I'm screwed out of the extra attack) more times than I can count in FE: TSS.

I wouldn't really call those 2 similliar even though they have a similliar genre...FE doesn't handle terrain in the same way due to the fact that the map is "flat" and there's no stuff like directions you face to worry about. Instead there's far more focus on the right weapon type, making sure you don't run out of weapon uses in middle of a battle and get screwed, and generally stats mean a lot more in FE due to their small scale.

Dunno if this belongs here, but I felt it fit here the best, since it's not directly Gens-related and applies to many Genesis games and is general in nature. Anyways, people always state that using any cheat device (AR, GG) with Genesis games with SRAM will invariably screw up your savegames, and while it's true that cheat devices can do stuff like that to any games with SRAM regardless of console, people stress that it's ALWAYS Genesis games with SRAM and they will ALWAYS get their SRAM screwed up/erased with no exceptions regardless of the type of cheat used. So, uh...if it's true, why is this and why only Genny?

Both US GBA Fire Emblem games also have an easily manipulated RNG: in some regards it's even easier to manipulate it than it is with GS, as there's generally less things to consider.
