I tried the glitch at the end of 1-3, where there's a four-block high wall, but I couldn't get it to work there. (Usually it's on three-block high walls.) It might be possible, though. I don't see anything to improve in 1-4. In 2-4, the glitch is used in the lava room, but it looks like it can be used in the two previous rooms as well (the shop and the spikes). I assume that's the improvement Alyosha is talking about for level 2. The idea of skipping a strength upgrade occurred to me as well, but I didn't investigate it. It might be faster.

I was 10 frames faster on the 1-3 boss. It may be possible to improve further. http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/24870416820299216

I tried to do my idea of taking the lower route and avoiding the ladder: Link to video It's supposed to be 16 frames faster than climbing the ladder. But my movie ended up 23 frames slower at the start of the boss battle. So 39 frames were lost elsewhere. I see now that 27 frames are lost when the screen stops scrolling after Blue dies. And then I lost about 12 more frames because of unavoidable stops for enemies on the lower route. So it's not faster overall. Lower route FM2 link

I just tested and the upper route to the medicine is about 40-50 frames faster. So that will have to be edited in.

Alyosha did a magnificent job here. Our spontaneous teamwork dynamic worked very well. There are so many 'wow' moments for a sub-5-minute movie. I think it's a masterpiece. The evolution of the clipping glitch opened the floodgates of creativity. -clipping downward through the floor instantly (!!!) -clipping all the way through a wall -clipping into the edge of the waterfall (not seen) -clipping through the warp zones (!!!) -clipping through the spade wall -clipping through the triple wall -clipping out with the girl -clipping into a wall in mid-air (!!!) One more question has come to mind now: did you compare this route to the medicine with the upper route?

I can't think of anything else at the moment. I experimented more with the unknown out-of-bounds area but I'm just finding a sea of nothingness. Looks like it's ready.

Is that long detour down needed? Can this be clip be done on midair by bruteforcing A/B presses?
Confirmed to be possible!
Does that mean that you can clip into the wall while falling down? In which case I would expect the route to look like here:

Whether it works or not, that's some brilliant thinking. How fast do you get onto the ladder at the balloon? Would it be faster to clip directly into the edge of the wall like here?

So I tried to clip by the elevator by riding it down a bit and jumping back up (hoping it would disappear once off screen)
I just found a way to make the elevator disappear by jumping back and forth. I discovered it by accident, while playing in real-time. Link to video

Are there any triggers OoB, or all of them just a mess of tiles?
I haven't found anything useful OoB. I believe that there other OoB areas that I have yet to explore, but I don't think they'll be useful either, unless there's a way to trigger the endgame.

if you clip one step into the wall at the waterfall at the very beginning of the game, you can press down and fall onto the platform below.
Nicely done. I played around with the objects that you have to collect to finish the game, but there's no major news. You need all 5 for the game to end. (Raj Diamond, Cage Key, Quickclaw, Medicine Flask, and Rhonda.) I learned that you can sequence break and get the Raj Diamond last, but it doesn't look like there's an advantage there. Here's another idea. When you do the wall clip after the balloon, keep clipping left into the wall while jumping up.

New discovery: the spade is not necessary. You should be able to save maybe 7-8 seconds by clipping through this wall.

Using the ladder for the downward wall clip is brilliant. It inspired me to go back and look at the routes again. I might have found something. I got the Dark World right wall clip to work. Link to video Currently, Girl-to-Warp takes ~56 seconds. This route is very close to that time. It has to be optimally TASed to find out whether it's faster or slower. It's about a 50/50 chance I think. Here is the route to take: The trick is that you have to spawn a flying dark reaper that drops stuff on you. You have to go just a little bit to the left when you reach the bottom. Then have him follow you over to the right side. When you go down the long ladder in this route, it should be possible to manipulate some of those quick downward slides by randomly stopping. That might be enough to make it faster. Another issue: is every gunshot necessary? It seems like a loss of time to pick up the second gun.

Here is the route that I had in mind: When I tested the red route, starting from the top of the roof (after completing the left wall clip), it took only ~13 seconds to get to the end point. The blue route, starting from the girl, took ~26 seconds to get there. Starting from the girl, a wall clip completed in less than 13 seconds should save time. I know what you mean by going to the right. It didn't work for me either because you can't get into the wall. I tested another spot in the dark world that also would be faster if you could wall clip through it, but there aren't enough objects to make it work.

I have one idea that almost certainly is faster: wall clipping out of the room after grabbing the girl. I calculated the times needed to improve the run in those two spots that I mentioned before. I'm not sure whether they're possible: Challenge 1: If you can get through this wall and get the key in less than ~17 seconds, it will save time: Challenge 2: If you can get through this wall and grab the girl in less than ~20 seconds, it will save time.

I've tested two particularly useful spots and found them to be possible to wall clip through. The question of whether the run could be faster depends on how quickly I can get through those walls. I'll have to test completely. One of them looks more likely than the other to be a time-saver.

I made a picture that shows the main difference between this run and the published one. Clipping through the wall looks like it saves about 7 seconds overall. Mainly because the old route required death, and it took about 11 seconds to go through the death sequence. It's also slower to swim through the water. I never considered going through that wall, because I thought it would take too long. Clever move. And then it looks like optimizing wall clipping and girl rescuing saves the other 4 seconds.

Most likely pointless for TASing purposes, but here's an exploration of the secret glitch world: Link to video

You didn't try the idea that I suggested five years ago to avoid climbing the ladder on the last level? http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=237992

Thanks Arc! Nice to hear of you after a long while. You were one of this site's first users, registering on the forums even before Nach. Will watch your let's play of course.
I remember when it all began back in December 2003. I've been here the whole time, but I'm just quietly watching others' videos nowadays. I figured that you would be interested in the LP. It felt like I was making a TAS again, spending so much time trying to perfect it.

Well, I spent the last two weeks making a Let's Play for The Battle of Olympus. (Not a TAS.) I collect 100% of the items, and I utilize a sequence break that is supposed to be impossible. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLP9E0dOSdv4ko-AbYakV3OMKI7M_9lDqu The videos aren't monetized. I just want to share my Let's Play here because I spent so many hours attempting to create high-quality, entertaining videos, and I want people to watch them.

When you roll a 12, you thus lose $300K on each of the 2, 3, and 11 bets, and gain 30*$300K=$9M from the 12 bet. The net gain would thus be $8.1M, which shouldn't be enough to reach $9,999,999 and win the game. Is the game's implementation of the horn bet wrong by paying 30 to 4 (or 15 to 2) upon your boxcars roll instead of 27 to 4, or am I misunderstanding how casinos work?
The true odds of rolling a 12 are 36:1. The house pays 30:1. But I do think the game makes an error. It calculates the winnings correctly (30*300,000=9,000,000) but I think it mistakenly returns the entire original bet (1,200,000) instead of 300,000. Thus the player's total money reaches $10,601,000 instead of $9,701,000.

Why not make the rating numbers public but the raters' names private (by default)?

I think that the problem with the AVGN icon is that it looks like blatant cross-promotional advertising for AVGN. The worst part is that it isn't; you're just advertising AVGN for free. And the icon appears next to popular videos like SMB3, Castlevania, and Zelda II. I would actually prefer if it were paid cross-promotional advertising, because it would at least financially benefit the owner (nothing wrong with profiting), although it may damage the site's reputation somewhat.
