Yeah, I figured it would check for all 4 giants at that time since that's kinda the whole point. But you never know if some obscure glitch could set one of their flags by some other means.

No I mean GutsShoot is only faster when I can't just walk up to the boss and use Swords and MegaBuster rapidly.

Hey, it's not totally crazy to try to look for something like that. Remember how Ocarina of Time's rainbow bridge only checked for two of the medallions?

Don't forget to use the 3-1-3-1-3-1-3-1-3 method on bosses with the Mega Buster this time. I don't know if I posted a movie of it, but it's the same as what I did for RockMan World 3. I think you have to adjust it in some way for the first Ballade fight, though, since you only need to take off 18 points rather than the full 19. Maybe just leave out one of the uncharged 1s, whichever is fastest to skip.

Did you see how much time it adds to watch the chips combine and to watch GutsMan come in and throw MegaMan? It's actually a bit faster to bring the boss to the front and whack it with swords and rapid shots if possible. GutsShoot is for those cowards who hide in the back all the time. Sorry I haven't posted updates in a while. I got stalled on finding the fastest route for that chained battery box puzzle, and I've had kind of a busy week with family coming over and having to work extra shifts. Maybe after this weekend I'll complete some more... Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting, ZeXr0 and Rolanmen1!

From what I could see from videos of them, WoodMan and CutMan have more speech samples in the Japanese version, probably because they didn't bother to replace them with English voices and simply deleted everything that wasn't just grunting. But, I know how much everybody on this site hates choosing a non-English version of a game...

IF I were to keep it, it would be come my life's work to find another game that could fit this category! Any games with a hero named teddy?
Since this was about Mother 2, you reminded me of how the "official" name of the last playable character in Mother 1 is Teddy. Now you've got me wondering if you can beat the game with Teddy in your party.

Well yeah, there's all kinds of stuff you won't do in a speed run when it's "not required"... Kind of an odd condition to put on your answer to this question.

And now this input file should complete ColorMan! http://www.box.net/shared/ft821hdynj Yep, I was able to edit in the correct battle chips for the slots I would get for ColorMan back when I was preparing for SkullMan. Thank you, tas-movie-editor.exe!

TASes should be about supplying input to the game (regardless of how it's done). Allowing the movie file to affect the console itself (eg. resetting it) is stepping a bit out of this boundary. That's not playing the game itself anymore.
As I see it, the console and game are joined during play. You can't have one without the other or you can't play the game, so the developers should have taken the standard console inputs into account. And what about games that require you to push Reset, or change controller ports, or close the DS lid in order to finish? Do you want those to be unTASable?

How about "Inverse of Any%"? Like how someone was thinking there should be a run of Mega Man X 3 that collects all the tanks and armors but doesn't trash Zero for his sword. And... kill off both Bit and Byte right away, but leave Vile alive for the fortress, just to make it as different as possible? The only problem is if a different, faster any% route is discovered... Getting everything but the arm cannon upgrade would be pretty silly.

I officially declare the best part about this movie Quick Man's stage, it's amazing. I give it 7 bionic thumbs up.
Man, I don't even remember that part. I remember the rip-off bosses like Ramda Bangda and the Dark Chocolate Fudge Monster, and I remember the really slow autoscrollers or waiting for a slow platform...

The subtitle text we put in the movie is too early, it can be completely cut out before any action starts.
Isn't that a good thing? I don't like covering up the action.

Yeah, I never understood why other forums pitch such a fit over mere topic-bumping. How can people get so offended by seeing one old topic move to the top of the list?

...Wait, that's never been done in a TAS before? I think I've done that several times, actually, but I never thought much of it until now.

Yeah, I read that the Zero series had been planned since X5 was made, but then they decided to keep making X games, so they had to keep setting aside the bridge to Zero for later.

Technically, since this is a sequel to the Mega Man Zero series, I think this game should be called Zero Point 5.
Um, aren't these X games prequels to the Zero series?

Yeah, I remembered to put in some use of opposite D-pad buttons pressed at the same time for that effect. When you hold opposite buttons like that, it makes Lan/MegaMan stand facing north and then northeast on alternating frames, and when you let go of the buttons at the exact same time, it makes your character walk in place facing west. I don't think you can examine objects in this state, though; apparently it's considered no direction at all. And I haven't found any other use for pressing opposite directions, so I may as well start sticking it into areas where I'm forced to wait for something. Edit: I added SkullMan too! http://www.box.net/shared/ft821hdynj I think I'm going to edit in a different folder arrangement before SkullMan, though, once I find out what slots I'll get against ColorMan. If that works, then it will save one trip to the menu. And thanks for replying, TimeSpaceMage!

All right, I finally finished IceMan! It was tough, but I managed to win a HiCannon G along the way too. http://www.box.net/shared/ft821hdynj If anyone is watching these updates, please let me know what you think!

Generally when you want to see a movie improved, you elaborate on how it can be improved. Making other people do the same work is redundant and draining. Back it up and help out others instead of saying "spooooooky frames could be saved, but I won't tell you anything about where, so just trust me on that one".
Well, sometimes those frames do appear and disappear spooooookily, such as when a game has an erratic method of lagging, or when subpixels are very important, or when there are just a lot of random decisions interacting. So even when you randomly save a few frames somewhere, you might just lose them or even more frames later on. I'm not saying I know whether that happens in this game, just that it might not be worth jumping on andymac's case about.

Wow, I didn't update here for a long time. I started the run over to skip two items I decided I didn't need and use that A button skip. Recently I've found that the A button can also count toward "waiting to change a battle" time if it's pressed on a frame on which a battle could occur. If it doesn't cause a battle on that frame, then it also reduces the number of frames to wait to get rid of the next battle. I don't know if this is making sense to anyone, but I'm trying to use it the best I can! Here's the new run. http://www.box.net/shared/ft821hdynj I had bad luck in a couple of places, but nothing serious. The different timing caused the final door before NumberMan to be close to 50, which is about the worst because of all the extra digit changes (8 extra frames per 1 extra digit change), but that didn't cost much more than half a second. I was lucky in discovering that Dash G can be won at only Busting Level 9, so I could fight a single Fishy for it, but it's so rare at that level, I had to shoot an extra 5 times to get the right prize, costing about two and a half seconds over an ideal battle. Still, I tried waiting up to 150 frames and fighting all the battles where I could instant-kill Fishy, and they always ended up requiring even more shots to get Dash G to appear, so the battle I fought could be called lucky when you consider the rarity of the prize. The battle against StoneMan went just as planned. But afterwards there's about 4 minutes of just running back and forth through buildings, and the movie currently ends when I finally get into the Waterworks Net. It'll get a little more exciting soon! Edit: Now the first part of IceMan's area has been added!
