Wouldn't you know it, I just finished NumberMan yesterday, but I kept putting off uploading it. http://www.box.net/shared/ijs4gqhyck Now you can check all the gains and losses. When I put in the Quake1 and Steal, I also went ahead and dropped in the MetGuard, just in case it turns out to be faster to have it in the Folder already, since I was waiting for the passcode to reach 90 during that time anyway. If it ends up being better somewhere else, that might even be edited easily thanks to the forced wait.

Oh right, maybe you could earn the highest score for a full game completion in the process of unlocking challenge mode.

Ah, I just talked to Baxter in IRC, who says that rather than moving SkullMan to after DrillMan as I thought, the plan is to move DrillMan to between BrightMan and RingMan and defeat him with Pharaoh Shot. I suppose if that works better...

Right, that's why I thought that the only point of using multiple players and games was to do it glitchlessly.

Does that mean you would use DiveMan's secondary weakness to Dust Crusher?

Hey, I decided to continue that run that played through the tutorials. Now you can see what the game might look like played from the beginning. I don't know if this will be the final run. It's going okay so far, but I mainly want to see how difficult it will be to win Dash G when that part comes up. Right now it's up to having beaten FireMan. http://www.box.net/shared/ijs4gqhyck If you see anything you think I should do differently, let me know right away, because avoiding battles all the time is a bit of a pain!

So it treats both controllers equally? Does that mean you could press a button 60 times a second by alternating which controller you press it on?

This is a zip file of save states I made when I was testing things this time. http://www.box.net/shared/q3x2xur6yc I probably didn't make as many saves throughout the dungeons as I should have. I mainly saved before bosses so you could practice on them and after bosses so you could try out the very next part of the story. I got a few more chips and some more money than we'll probably get in the final run, so there's a bit of leeway if you want to try buying different combinations of items. I also didn't equip any of the PowerUps until the road to BombMan, so you could experiment with different combinations of those too. Well, now it'll be easier if you want to test a new strategy! I just made a couple more tests on bosses thanks to the savestates. This is an example of beating ElecMan with only 5 swords not in a program advance. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/263113006/Elecswod.vbm It's a little slower than the 2 Wood chips strategy, but not slow enough to justify the extra trip to Higsby's, I'm afraid. And I found a faster way to beat the blue Fullshell and HardHeads at the beginning of the Undernet. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1161329891/CheatL1.vbm Now I cheated 3 of those chips into the Sack to save time, so the savestate this movie begins from isn't really legitimate, but they're all chips that could have been won from the 3-chip trader.

Well would it be target scores, or highest possible scores? The target scores are usually a little less than what you could get if you were perfect, and I think highest scores would be more impressive and give more to compete over, maybe.

Well, if link cable movies did work, it wouldn't have to be a "same input for different games" run. You could make a normal 3-player run with the different versions to complete the Pokedex up to 150 without glitches. I still don't think it would be terribly interesting, and you would either hear the audio from 3 games mashed together or have 2 of them silenced.

I think Master Quest is an N64 ROM played by an on-disc emulator, but I'm not sure. At least I figure that's why that four-game collection picked the NES games and the N64 games, so they'd get four games in while only having to fit two emulators on there.

Every method of saving has its own drawbacks that can cause you to lose your file, so I appreciate when a game has multiple ways to save. Did I ever tell you how RockMan Complete Works 2-6 let you mix saving to a memory card with the original password systems?

I think Raiscan's telling you not to delete everything just because you think it's irrelevant. We all know that the newest information will be at the end of the topic, so let us see how your earlier thought process went if we want to.

Don't we need to figure out all the "randomized from start" stuff first? Like Jinjo color locations if you're not going for 100%, the locations of the polar bear kids at Witchyworld, various passwords and other things like the treasures in Jolly Roger's Lagoon. I would think you want to find where the choices are located in memory, when they're decided, how you can manipulate them, and which combination of random elements makes for the quickest run. Though, I guess that first you have to find out all the possibilities the normal way...

It's been a week, so I'll bump this one in case anyone didn't notice the edits. Here is how the ElectricMan and ProtoBluesMan battles will go if I can get the special wood chips I need from the trader quickly enough. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/836540330/ElecProN.vbm The Snakegg1 + WoodTowr strategy does save some time, at the expense of a trip to Higsby's sometime before the SciLab party. I think the fastest time to visit is just before opening the car with the kidnapped boy. Since we'll want to dump the rest of the chips into the trader the same way later on, it won't be a loss as long as it doesn't take more than a couple of seconds to manipulate the right chips to come out amidst the new chips. Another thing I looked at just now is that first battle against ElecMan. I was thinking it was faster to grab a random ShokWave P next to the merchant in Internet-3 than to run over to the ShokWave L at the beginning of the school network, so I came up with another strategy for the unbeatable ElecMan that's just as fast: Two Cannons followed by a TriArrow. Yes it does require two extra shots per Cannon to reach 50, but ElecMan's healing is on a kind of "frame rule", where as long as he doesn't get a chance to move and doesn't get stunned by the attack, he'll heal at the same times. Since I couldn't figure out the ProtoMan glitch, I moved on to the boss fight at the end of Area 4. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1838286043/Bluies.vbm I suppose the only way to be faster would be to hit the other HardHead the first time it opens, but I can't get the chips to start up soon enough for that. Here's a BombMan battle fought with FireSwrd and GtsShoot that requires perfect luck. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1445814407/BomberfG.vbm HiCannon would only help if the bomb only did 210 dmg instead of 280. FireSwrd G is easy to get from the trader, but it requires the bombs to be in certain positions in order to be able to set off the chain reaction, which requires more luck manipulation. Heater and RedWave have better range, but RedWave doesn't come in G code, and Heater G can only be won from a random battle. So even with the extra bit of luck manipulation, the FireSword strategy should save a second and a half over the complicated two-turn strategy. But it also means that the fifth PowerUp is useless, and the HiCannon and TriSpear might not quite pay for themselves... Ah, we'll see. If I do have HiCannon, then the MagicMan battle can go like this: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/681454404/MagiThun.vbm It turns out that ThunderBall3 is just as fast as TripleSpear in that battle, so if I can pick up Thunder3 G from the trader without delay, then... that makes TriSpear only useful on ColorMan. Now I had been thinking of TriSpear, Recov200, and 3000 zenny as a package deal in jacking into the Waterworks control panel, as if I cut out the TriSpear for not saving enough time, then the other two probably aren't worth the jack-in time either. Cutting all three will make the chip and money budgeting even trickier to work out to find the fastest way. Getting six particular chips from the trader may be tough to work out, too, as now I'm planning on Snakegg1 N, WoodTowr N, DynaWave C, Quake3 C, FireSwrd G, and Thunder3 G. What do you think?

The shop system, I would have to save up on the P chips to get the Energy Balancer as early as possible and refill all weapons before the final stages of the game.
Wait, the Energy Balancer? You mean the thing that transfers energy to the weapon with the lowest amount when you pick up a refill with Mega Buster equipped? That doesn't seem very cost-effective, since it would only save a few trips to the menu to switch to whatever you want refilled. I was thinking of buying a full refill on everything just before setting off for Wily's space fortress, or W tanks for whatever weapon sorely needs refilling later on, or maybe an S tank, but S tank probably costs too much to gather enough P-chips in time. Oh and I guess the other worry was whether Beat was useful anywhere, in considering whether to grab the 4 plates in the first 4 levels. I think this was the game where even if Beat didn't home in on an enemy, you could still get right in front and underneath it and turn around to make Beat overlap it. Some testing of Beat's damage output may be helpful. I remember he could defeat a few mini-bosses in one hit, but they were all in the first 4 levels, where you wouldn't have gathered all the Beat parts yet the first time.

Why is there such a need to see games played at the same time? Shouldn't we come up with stand-alone TASes for 4 and 5 first? Maybe you can help. I had started on 4 once, but I got a little daunted by the possibilities of the shop system and the fact that you don't get any more free refills on weapons beyond the first four levels.

I'm not sure. I noticed that in the water tunnel in Dr. Wily 3 of MegaMan 1, you can run as fast as your own Mega Buster shots, but if you jump, you fall a little bit farther behind the shot as you land. So maybe you stop moving for one frame when you land from a jump... But Frenom had segments of continuous jumping, which didn't produce the landing sound effect, so maybe it also doesn't cost a frame until you actually go back into standing position.

Elecman: No rolling cutter=SLOW boss battle, takes 28 mega buster shots.
Ah, but don't forget that you can use Super Arm a couple of times to do a little extra damage. I don't know why Frenom switched weapons more than once in that battle, though. I see by this chart I made that Hyper Bomb does more damage too, but perhaps not enough to justify the wait time between explosions. Hey, I noticed at the beginning of your new run that you shot the Screw Drivers more than 3 times. In this game, even the minor enemies have a brief period of invulnerability after being hit where they can't be hit again, so watch out for that so you don't waste shots. Or are you wasting shots on purpose for luck manipulation? Anyway, it's good that you're thinking of ways to destroy enemies early so that they won't lag the game with their attacks. One thing you should do as a courtesy to people who download your runs is to put in a new filename for each new run you start, and only use the same name if it's a continuation or slight fix of something you already posted. That way we won't have to worry about overwriting something unique.

Oh, I just remembered to ask, did you find out whether it's faster to have Rolling Cutter for ElecMan or to have Magnet Beam and Thunder Beam for CutMan? Frenom's run went GutsMan-ElecMan-CutMan, while yours went GutsMan-CutMan-ElecMan, so you should be able to make such a comparison now.
