On this subject, I remember within the past few years there was a programming competition where one of the challenges was to find the fastest path through a number of tracks. Basically, you were given a bitmap of the tracks and some physics rules, and you had to optimize the path. One of the top teams utilized a very BisqBot-like approach where they built an engine to allow them to drive around on the tracks, record their best times, and then used random perturbations to optimize segments along the best path predetermined by humans.
Heh, have you been following the Super Mario Kart topic?

Actually Xebra was right and you were wrong and so am I. Although I've always questioned why the Sega translators spelt it as "Labyrinth" as opossed to "Labarinth".
Because that's the current correct spelling?

Do you think you'll use the leaf shield in the middle of the level on those Fan Fiends and get tons of refills the rest of the way, or just use it on AirMan?

Great... I guess my only other tip for now is to remember to try jumping down ledges versus just sliding off them.

Hmm, do you think Metroid 2 is the most difficult to navigate because the areas overlap? They probably had to stop doing that in later games in order to show the player the map coherently.

Ah, I saw what may be a slight problem with the sliding when I turned on the input display: You're not pressing Right+Down+A or Left+Down+A; you're just pressing Down+A, which causes you to lose a pixel each time. See, the game lets you move or shoot on the same frame that you slide for some reason, so you get the fastest movement by adding a horizontal direction to every slide you make. The only time you wouldn't want to do that is if you need to hit a pixel exactly and the slide's two-pixel movements cause you to be off by one pixel. Oh yeah, and I remember the other reason I dreaded this level: Not only could the Clash Bomb save time on MetalMan, but it might also save time on all those minor enemies you had to stop and shoot. But since Clash Bomb wastes so much energy, you'd have to manipulate refills like crazy.
