I think you're referring to BMF's palette? It's very nice and indeed emulates the original colors really well. I'm not sure if it's fully accurate, but that doesn't really matter due to the loss of quality when recording a run on VHS.
From what I've heard, it's not just a palette, but a complete NTSC emulation plugin that'll blend the colors together the way a real TV would.

Yeah, but what if... um... they were leaning on the pause key by accident? It could happen! It would be a big distraction from the viewing experience, and they'd probably have to encode it all over again!

Afaik (take that AngerFist!) in paint you have to draw it the size you want it. You are right that it just deletes pixels if you shrink it. For an abstract The Avatar this might not be a bad thing :P
Um, what? You're drawing it directly in Paint? Then you draw it in whatever size box there is. You should set the size of the box first thing if there's a limit.

I don't think the name makes it more fun, unless you're trying to create some stupid dialogue humor by calling the character "Buttfart" or something. And it's already funny enough for a character to have a short name, or in this game, a minus, since minuses normally denote empty menu options. But yeah, heroes all named A, that's fuuuuuun stuff! Um

What about games where you can't kill the character at the end to lose, but you could hit the pause button to delay the ending indefinitely? Would you have to keep recording until the game finally ignores that pause button?

Couldn't you put RawData into the dialog box for loading movies where it compares the settings so we wouldn't have to keep asking the movie author whether to check it?

Also, there might be an actual desync in the movie file caused by loading savestates incorrectly or changing video plugins, or confusion over the ROM version or video plugin settings or other input settings.
No, it's none of these.
Actually, I think people were saying that the movie was desynching when they DIDN'T use a savestate, meaning that the savestate was inaccurate somehow and led to the movie desynching when played back normally and only working when started from that savestate.

I think you should have named Charmander with a more meaningful name than just "-". I understand that you wanted a 1-letter name to save time, but I think that instead of "-" you could have used eg. "C" which has more meaning. (After all, it's not unusual to nickname someone after the first letter of his name.)
Meaning? We're looking for the fastest time to completion, not any "meaning".

But does the game end when you no longer have to do anything, or does it end when victory is assured as soon as possible?

I played the song in 50 frames, a 30-frame improvement from what you did in your previous run. And it's not really a blur. I don't know. I was a bit exaggerating when I used that word, but it also seems that I can't play songs as quickly in Mupen as I can in Proj64 (by about 10 frames max. depending on the song), even using the same key assignments.
Uh, that's kinda bizarre. It could just be that the input plugin is bad about letting you press a button immediately after loading, or something like that. I don't know.

just for the record, you checked "copy framebuffer to dram" when making your movie, right?

Well is nfq talking about the real time spent playing in total or the game's time shown at the ends of levels?

Perhaps, rather than being a short video, it should be a 30- or 60- minute documentary?
Yeah and then NOBODY will bother to watch it.

Weren't you going to improve this game's movie again with that trick in PharaohMan or something? I think you should.

Hmm, why'd you only mention Charmander in the description text? Keeping Gyarados a surprise?

I guess when you cut it down to size in paint, you missed.
Can't you just check the exact size in Attributes? Well actually, you could change the size to whatever you want there, although I don't think Paint is sophisticated enough to do anything but discard or duplicate pixels when it resizes.

You may as well test all the levels to see if there's a better route. Just the tough thing is that you need more of those big hearts to access more levels in the next world, so there's a trade-off there.

Ooh, you should try putting it into an e-mail address to show how somebody's account is "at" some site.
