Whilst on a search for an obscure, japanese game to make a movie of, I came across this game, Karuraou. It appears to be suited pretty well for a fast and entertaining movie. If only I could find the motivation, I might make one :P I need to do some more playing to see what levels you can skip and what you can't. As it is, I've only beat it once. It'll take me a few more times before I get used to the mechanics enough to make a good movie. It appears this game is loosely based upon the japanese legend of Karura, a fire-bird. I think this is so because one of the moves you learns transforms you into a firebird, and you need it to hurt the boss of the game's first form. It's a pity this game is all in japanese, it would be fun to see what all the people talk about :P EDIT: Here's my run of the intro level. It's not too exciting, considering over half of it is talking. I plan on taking no damage in the levels. This beginning stage is the only one I can think of that you would save any time to take damage, so I think it will be worth it to not get hit at all. It's pretty tough to do :P http://www.filespace.org/dan_/Karuraou_v1_dan_.smv

Neither of those links work :P I watched the level 1 movie though, and it can be improved quite a bit. Watch my latest WIP for some tips. I still don't think that the hardest difficulty is a good idea. While it may be impressive to never take a hit, you gain a lot of time by taking hits. I think the time gained is significant enough to overrule the harder difficulty. This is just my opinion though. Oh, and don't compare times with the published movie. It sucks :P Hopefully someday I'll make a version that meets my standards.

If you have the correct version of FCEU, you can press the left and right buttons (or the up and down buttons) at the same time and it will sometimes have strange effects on the game you are playing. Without the aforementioned version of FCEU, one direction will simply overrule the other one and nothing crazy will happen. This happens because on the NES controller, you cannot, without tampering with it, press two opposite directions at the same time. Thus, programmers sometimes did not have an express action to be performed when they are, causing weird things to happen. That is all.

Looks good. Reminds me of Astanyax. Yes.
I thought it looked more like a Genesis version of Faxanadu. Regardless, it was a great run. Good job, nifboy. I like how it's improved so much since your first submission :P

Uhh... I'd like to see Wizards and Warriors 2 : Ironsword's password cracked. That would make me very happy. Thank you very much.

Care to explain what's wrong with the terms console-run for a (gasp) run done on a console and emulator-run for a (gasp) run done on an emulator? It would separate this site from others, as we only accept emulator-runs, and sites such as the SDA and Twin Galaxies only accept console-runs. It also sums up pretty well the "tools" we use - emulators. On occasion, something else is used, but generally all things we use to make our runs are features built in to the emulator. So now please write a detailed rebuttal which I will be too lazy to counter :P

I approve of this movie. The sheer speed and crazy amounts of monsters, not to mention the nostalgia, makes this an entertaining movie. This is the first time I've ever seen the (crappy) ending to this game.

Whoops, I didn't take Algebra 2 until I was 15, sorry about that :P That would be pretty advanced to take it a year before that. However, I am young for my grade in school. I was 14 as a freshman in High School, and the 'advanced' curriculum is Geometry freshman year, Algebra 2 sophomore year, Pre-calc junior year, and Calculus AB senior year. I was on this 'advanced' curriculum until I decided to skip Pre-calc, taking Calculus AB my junior year. Now I'm a senior and am scheduled to take Multivariable Calculus at the local college. However, this is all extremely off topic, so that's all I'm going to say about that.

I started using i in Algebra 2, back when I was 14. What type of calculator are you using? I'd recommend a TI-83 or above - in fact, all of my math classes in high school have required at least a TI-83. Anyway, it seems Too_Bored has dethroned me from my position of tallest person here. Oh well, it's not like there's much I can do to change that :P

Why not? You're supposed to put something meaningful in your signature, so I figured the 5 most important numbers in all mathematics would be pretty meaningful. What better way to put the said 5 numbers in a signature than by using an equation that involves them all? And besides, it's just a cool equation :P

Why should I? Dan_ has some advanced mathematical thingy as a signature, I think that he made correct calculations.
I'm hardly a math genius, I just like it :P

Oh yeah? Well I'm 0.0000000000000000617367921 Parsecs tall! And 0.00000000000000000000000190500 yottameters! And 1905000000000000000000000 yoctometers! Maybe this will help - in a vacuum, light will travel a distance equal to my height in 0.00000000635439601 seconds.

Hmmm... I haven't seen your movie so I can't comment on that, but I don't think it's a good decision to play on the crazy hard mode, simply because taking damage in this game saves a lot of time. A movie where one hit kills you eliminates a lot of opportunities for killing bosses faster, and you also have to finish each level with full life, which adds another second or two to each level. I'll watch what you have later and see if it changes my mind :P

That was an awesome movie. I especially like your killing of the Piranah plant, as stated earlier. Easy Yes vote. Good work, spezzafer.

Beta version, Level 10, 18475 points. Edit: Still haven't passed level 10, but broke the 20000-point barrier with 20050 points :)

I wish you'd have used Ness, Paula, Jeff, Poo, King, Steak, and Rockin', but oh well. Zurrecco: His favorite thing is Speed. I sense some drug-related habits, which could explain the psychic powers...

I'll give you some tips (albeit obvious ones): (ab)use skip sandwiches/DX a lot. Get the bicycle as soon as possible. Use PSI Teleport A to move long distances very quickly. I'm assuming that the speed you move at compensates for the menu-accessing and the crashing animation. Try to get the 1/256 items first try, if only just for fun. And that's about all I can think of off the top of my head :P I'll be sure to provide input as you progress, however.

Nifboy's Genesis Toejam and Earl in 20:44. I heard rumors of an improved version in the works, albeit very old rumors.
