Wow, I've seen that anime, but I didn't recognize your avatar. But if it's from some doujin software, then it's no wonder. :)

Mine was from Mega Man 4… the new set is made using Portrait Illustrator Maker, and somewhat is intended to resemble me.* Though there are still a few I'm not satisfied with. [Edit: *) With some changes :)]

The less personal affection you have for a run you make, the easier it is both for you to have it obsoleted and for the author who decides to do so.
That being said, people do need motivation. I can fully understand Comicalfop's case: "everyone becomes happy and surprised when they see this movie" is a very motivating event to anticipate, whereas "achieving the frame-perfect timing" is more like "what's the point".

I noticed that this run didn't keep the previous run's star. I thought that was automatic now, so I guess it's just been removed manually.
Yes, I removed it manually. I occasionally change the stars, it is nothing to be alarmed of. It's not a trophy; it's a content management feature.

I liked Rydia from Final Fantasy IV… Until I saw the first picture that wasn't an in-game pixel art. My liking ended steeply then. That was 4–5 years ago. ___________________

Pro hint: Use the (s)ave key. Even more pro hint: Every time you save, back up your "save" and "player.dat" files. Every time you die, quit the game, restore your "save" and "player.dat" files and this way you can continue playing from last save. Edit: The aforementioned tactics is called "savescumming" and is considered cheating. Details here: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/NetHack/Newbie_Mistakes

Oh, I was just talking about these games for the sake of playing, not TASing… I don't know.

How about you play the game before watching the run?
I wish my site pleases also the audience who don't know the games. These playthroughs are also a way to introduce previously unknown games to the large audience (although a rather twisted way). If your argument has any priority, then a majority of the "no" votes on Star Control II should have been ignored. Also, Spineshark's "2" option was the case. (Well, I could have published it, but I really wanted to hear opinions first, and after hearing them, I wanted to have a clear verdict so that it doesn't look like I'm just soloing.) I agree with most of what Xkeeper wrote in the two previous posts. Also: Re: RPG games, you cannot possibly expect everyone to know of every secret item some RPG contains. The RPG game speedruns often use techniques or comboes that are unknown even to those who have completed the game, say, twice. For example, I had no idea whatsoever that Goblin Punch in FF5 has a level limitation effect. There may be secret events the player did not know, hence the dialog is interesting to read. Also the dialog is interesting to read nevertheless for the game may be good because of the dialog. My site's core audience is not the players who are expert at making speedruns. It is the people who enjoy watching games being played in ways they never fathomed. It is just that without those experts, no content is generated. But the experts need to think of the actual audience.

I recently found two interesting games… remakes of old classics. Dracula's Shadow http://members.tripod.com/~archimede77/download.html It's pretty much a clone of that great old game for the NES, Simon's Quest. Evidently the author, while developing the game, thought it would be nice to add on to the original idea. It is both more difficult and more fun. You can control any one of three different characters, changeable via the pause menu. You start with two. This works as a kind of continue feature if you should (and you probably will), perish. Plenty of secrets abound; just use your holy water in suspicious areas. You'll find clues and ingredients for magic potions, plus who knows what else. There's a potion system for making new items. The graphics have been upgraded as well. Once flat backgrounds now have added depth thanks to additional tile layers. Doom the Roguelike http://doom.chaosforge.org/ If you have ever liked games like Nethack or Rogue, or you have liked Doom (or Doom II) and are looking for a totally new kind of challenge, here is Doom ― implemented as a turn-based text mode game. Don't worry, there is no typing involved… all moving is quite intuitive, you just need to learn a few hotkeys. Arrow keys move you, "g" picks up an item, "f" fires a weapon (optionally choose a target with arrow keys), "i" goes to inventory, "r" reloads the weapon, and so on. "?" brings up the help screen(s). Like RPGs, it has a levelling system, which improves your various stats according to your wishes as you kill more and more enemies. It is not a requirement to kill all enemies in a stage to go to the next stage. Unlike in original Doom, in Doomrl you can carry a multitude of weapons at the same time. For example, ten pistols. Of course, there's a limit to how much you can carry, so you need to organize sometimes. I found myself having to discard heaps of ammo occasionally and dozens of empty weapons routinely. Complete with original sound effects and music tracks, this remake manages to capture the essence of Doom very well despite the obvious limitations of the text mode, while it also extends it by introducing new concepts such as healing machines and new weapons.

I actually think that to avoid repetition, using the password was a nice idea. There has never been huge support for a RM3 movie with the 2P input (rather, noticeable opposition), but there has been several requests. This movie is small enough to not compete with the content of the full TAS, yet showcases (some) of the 2P input abilities. Also, I enjoyed watching this TAS. However, my opinion whether it should be published, is somewhat divided. My vote is "meh" with a yes-like tint.

on the other hand the chrono trigger run was released late in the second period, although it may have been too late to influence site hits.
To my knowledge, the Chrono Trigger run wasn't particularly popular… Here are some of similar age for comparison: * 120-exit Super Demo World (2005-11-13): 3998 downloads * Chrono Trigger (2005-12-28): 3155 downloads * Mega Man X3 (2006-01-06): 2592 downloads * Maniac Mansion (2005-12-06): 1888 downloads * Wai Wai World (2005-12-05): 888 downloads Divided by age in days: * Super Demo World: 7.61 downloads per day (average) * Chrono Trigger: 6.57 * Mega Man X3: 5.5 * Maniac Mansion: 3.76 * Wai Wai World: 1.77 In top class, sure, but not a once-in-a-year event. On the other hand, many such movies were published in that short time.

Any particular reason for the large increase between 2005-02 -> 2005-03 and 2005-12 -> 2006-01?
2005-02 to 2005-03 increase I wondered myself too. I suspect it had something to do with the large Japanese audience that came after an article was posted at douga.tk (and subsequent followup articles). Increases and decreases may also be artifacts of numerous site reorganizations. * I occasionally move the new screenshot images to a backup server, which does not count into these numbers, and such moves generally decrease the numbers. * At one point, the forums were moved from nesvideos.stc.cx to the same URL space as the actual site, which is when it started counting together with the site's hits (it previously were logged in another log and didn't count in these statistics). (However, not as largely as it sounds; the images and stylesheets used by the forums are still loaded from a secondary virtualhost, so only actual pages count.)

Well, it's like this. You will have to calculate percentages yourself, though. The numbers on left denote hits per month. Thanks to Xkeeper for some of the idioms used in this graph or its generator.

Happens sometimes because when I move threads or posts around between topics or forums, I don't update all the "first post id", "last post id" fields in all tables, which phpBB depends on, for they're laborsome to maintain manually. Occasionally I run a script that fixes them, which I did now. Thanks for reporting it.

If you're still trying to download it, my autoseeder should pick it soon and start seeding it. It seeds those files which have demand. Because it can only seed so many files at once, it has to prioritize those which have demand over those which have no demand.
