Hmmm... it's complaining. "Record not saved! You walk diagonally from (180) to (201) at 121 after 262" and that's the second record in a row that gets me that message.
Uhh.

Should I stop the input right after killing the last boss to get this 2:06 time (the last dialogs progress automatical but much slower) or should I scroll through this dialogs with auto-fire till the credits?
If the last dialogs progress automatically, you can stop the input as soon as the last boss is killed. It doesn't matter if the dialog goes slower. It's actually good if it's readable.

Maybe an explanation of the real objective of this submission would be a good idea, too. I think Deviance underestimated how well-known this game is for it's frame-by-frame competition value. In that sense, some of the more obscure titles, such as Wrath of Black Manta, would have been better.

In July 2005 - Globally on my webserver, there were 1633799 hits, 11.0 GB of traffic, with average of 2195 hits per hour. 819k hits in the name of MSIE 6, 643k in the name of Mozilla. During the 23rd-27th days, there were 0 hits because the site was inaccessible. Also in July, the audience favourite movie was Spezzafer's Super Mario World 2. The torrent file was loaded 13226 times.

Ok... I'm not going to hurry on publishing this video, but I hope you get something done before this is published :)

I think it's time to close down this ... thread. It didn't yield any considerable success.

Fixed. Also added a few new levels. The graphics however are just palette-changed versions of the graphics of existing levels. If someone had the registered version of peterbox, I could use its real graphics in those levels... (Phases 5,6,9,10,11,12) Edit: From Warp's request, I also added the "0" key (both the digit row and numpad) as an alternative for the kick "K" key.

The three mentioned bugs have been fixed and the game is back online with a new movie format that should cause less traffic. For example, this is BoltR's movie for the first level:
zwu:dBw:Elwwwufl:Grg:JAszp:HCwdwlfugszpwrwugszpwlwufrgszpwdwrgszpwuwrfdgszpwlwdgszpwrwdflgszp
which breaks down like this: - at zero frame, walk up - define default walk timing as 6 frames for the next 19 times, and wait that amount - walk <for next three commands, default walk direction is left> - walk, walk - walk up - face left - define default timing after a "face" event as 1 frame for the next 5 times, and wait that amount - grab - define default timing after a "grab" event as 2 frames for the next 8 times, and wait that amount - save, wait 0 frames, push - define default timing after a "push" event as 12 frames for the next 7 times, and wait that amount - walk down, walk left, face up, grab, save, wait 0 frames, push, walk left, walk up, face right, grab, save, wait 0 frames, push, walk down, walk right, grab, save, wait 0 frames, push, walk up, walk right, face down, etc etc.

Its all possible on a console with unmodified game and without cheats. However, it would require more than godlike reflexes, like being able to change the state (press and release) of a button 30 times pr second. This is why we use emulators, as they allow you to change the input every frame, to get 'perfect' control beyond human ability.
/me congratulates TNSe for the most helpful reply to this FAQ so far.

BTW, I think whats the cause of the bugs I found. For the 1st one, seems that you don't clean the Undo variable when you retry a level with D button. So, you can place all but 1 block, then press D to start again & then Space Bar to undo & magically return to the last position before with the time just started.
This is very helpful! Thanks for reporting. But you couldn't submit a record that abuses this glitch - the server refuses any submission that doesn't complete the game. It checks the movie very thoroughly.

Also, I got another one while I screwed it up a block. Seems that I was pushing it & set Peter to move after with the mouse, but since I pushed the block to much I had to restart again & he walked through the block to get where I wanted with the mouse...
Thanks, apparently the autoaimer is not reseted when an undo is performed. This will be fixed soon too.

EDIT: Found a weird bug... If you enter the Levels full name into the first change dialogue (which should only take the first number) the game not only gets weird but credits you to have beaten random levels... for example I'm supposed to have beaten 7-5...
I couldn't duplicate this error (although I know weird things happen if you input an invalid level number), but I think I'll remove the "change level" button since it can now be accomplished using the Records page (which I always use nowadays).

How did you figure THAT out (world 36-1)? What are worlds 9 through 35? Are there more after world 36? Can you get to them?
Probably he has experience on the insides of the game. Perhaps you can gain such insight too by using some level editor, such as what is available at: http://acmlm.overclocked.org/download/filelist.php?id=3

No, the Balloon doesn't follow Rockman horizontally. The zipping exists there too, but the Balloon needs to be next to the wall or the zipping won't be of any use.

But where do the second warp pipes take you ? in 4-2 i mean. If someone could remove those stairs or magically glitch through them.
I tried (by moving the ceiling of the pipes to a position that allows Mario to moonwalk through the stairs), and they all three take back to that particular scene in the game. The upstairs of 4-2, that is. (I doublechecked to verify that the numbers weren't changed by the Mario editor I used, by doing an equivalent change in 1-2, but it doesn't appear that the numbers were affected by such edits.)

My suggestion is that if sleepz worked hard to find cool tricks and want to be credited for this - which everyone here agrees it's fair - he can write them on the Mario tricks page (if he hasn't done it yet).
That would be good, of course, but not for that reason. I don't want anyone to "own" those pages or the text on them. They are collaborate documents.

Nice to see you're still active. The movie looks good. Although the difference to previous version is minimal, it's noticeable. Good job.

Okay, I'm going to put this up for download: Dual encoding: sleepz' and Phil's runs side-by-side. (Mirror)
After watching this run (Thanks Dehacked!), I have to say I'll vote "yes" for this submission. Reasons: - It's not boring, and it's not less entertaining than the previous movie - It's indeed faster, and frames are gained in various places - It's not a requirement to repeat previous author's cool stunts. But it is a good idea to invent new tricks to show. Indeed I couldn't find a complaint for this movie when judging only the movie itself.

I also want to ask, and I'm not accusing at this point, but is the first 20 seconds just a cut and paste from my run? They look even more similar watching them side by side than seperately. Just asking.
There are only so many different ways to play it. And I believe you know it very well that Phil doesn't need to copypaste anything from your run.

What I meant is that you should only concentrate on the differences that are consequent from your playing, not on differences that are consequent from different game/emulator versions.

Im not sure if anyone knows about this, but there is a warp from 1-2 to 5-2 (as stated in the title.) anywaysi know it wont help in a timeattack, but just in case... the way to do it is the same as going to the minus world, except you need to reach the second pipe before the numbers show up.
It takes to 5-1, and it's not useful because it's a long way from 5-1 to 8-1. Much longer than from 4-1 to 8-1, because there's a warp zone in 4-2 but not in 5-anything.

Cool :) Then me and DeHackEd should be 6-7 seconds faster after we have completed Pharaoh Man stage.
But you should ignore that difference, because it doesn't tell how much better you're playing.
