"I can complete Super Mario Bros in 25 minutes! Without using the warp zones! Without pressing the run button even once." This run is badass, a true misbehaving equine. "I'm not playing by your rules." Congratulations to everyone involved for solving the challenges in getting it done!

I think we already know what the program prefers:
It is after beauty, after all.

Can we have a portable version of this screenshot chooser?
feos, I like your idea. I will consider it. However, it would have to use a different algorithm, one that requires the presence of all images at once (i.e. for a 20000-frame movie, 20000 PNG files in one directory). The current algorithm simply scans through the movie once, then uses savestates to rewind back to positions where a particular beauty was sighted and take snapshots there. EDIT: Oh, there's one hurdle to portability: Sprite detection. The NES version (and IIRC many others) of the beauty analyzer used to check the sprite list directly from the PPU to find out where movement is located. It was faster and more efficient than to analyze the image, which may be hampered by global motion (scrolling) etc.

I don't see any reason to raise the bar to submitting.

Another TASVideos-exclusive one: Submitting a run then having to wait five whole minutes for the topic TASVideoAgent created to show up on the main page so more people will notice it.
And in the same vein, submitting videos on YouTube and having to wait so long for them to be uploaded, and then for them to be processed, and then for them to be noticed, and then for them to be commented upon.

Wow, you're right. I totally forgot about SNES9x. I did indeed use SNES96 before it became SNES9x. But that was not before 1997. My savestates are dated from 1998. And true about the transparency. I think mr. Fayzullin's iNES was still the first emulator for me. I also found that I exchanged a few emails with him in feb 1997, concerning iNES v0.5.

I'm not really sure, but I can look at my files. Let's see for evidence... Evidence is made a bit difficult because in 1997 I accidentally updated the timestamp of all files in my system, essentially depriving me of any timestamps older than 1997 unless they were packed in an archive or written in a file. -- My oldest SND-S3M conversions are dated oct 1998. SND files were produced using iNES. -- In feb 1998 I tried to create a NES emulator of my own, using iNES documentation. -- In autumn 1997 I was playing with Nesticle. I know this because I remember where I was and who I was with. -- In feb 1997 I created a screenshot of Castlevania 2 using iNES. This is very near the first experience. -- There is no record of the first experience, but presumably it was not earlier than 1997, assuming that the feb 1997 timestamp is real and was not one of the victims. WOW. Was TASVideos (or nesvideos) really launched in 2003? Seems so short time since then and so long time before then. I must have really concentrated at the site.

Actually, that's just how HTML works. Also, the practice you mention was relevant when monospace fonts were used exclusive. (I may be wrong with this.) With proportional (varying-width) fonts, it is actually rather difficult to tell how many spaces are used...

Unfortunately this natural affinity for details + his overwhemingly enourmous ego = a somewhat narrow-minded man. It's all fun an games until you try to disrupt the delicate balance of his known world.
Thanks for the well-thought analysis. I am however not sure what to make of it: I always say that details escape my mind; I'm good at extrapolating big pictures. For instance, I can rarely describe any event or speech to anyone, or to quote what someone said, but I can easily tell which conclusions I made of it. Opinions about "ego" may be too subjective to argue either way in a meaningful manner.

Sometimes I just put bones into a soup to let others try it and tell me what it tastes like. Sometimes I do so because I personally think it improves the taste. The case here is open to everyone's guesses, but Warp's interpretation of the intended implication of the actual message is correct. ___________________

Thank you for the testimony, but my politeness is not as omnilateral as I would like it to be. I am not beyond deriving sadistic pleasure through verbal means from people whom I consider intentionally failing at one or more tenets related to communication, common sense and/or courteous social interaction, and I did not always remember to thank or apologize where either was due, or to encourage contributors.

I regret not being always at my politest to everyone, and being prolongedly neglectful at times. Though in my defense, I still did to the best of my abilities. I also regret not beginning a rewrite of the site to some modern framework such as Zend or Drupal way before I resigned. Now the maintainers are stuck with... different paradigms of coding. Though then again, inexperienced coders (which I understand to be the case presently) usually have problems abiding strict coding principles required by advanced frameworks, meaning that my lax coding style suits the site better after all.

Isn't it suspicious to go to a store, use the card and say "sorry, I forgot my pin number; no it's not stolen or anything, it's my card"? It would feel awkward... :P
It is only routine for the cashiers. They're just doing their job, so no, there is no pressure. And they do check the ID when you do that.

Not to refute anyone's point, but they were actually Indian (hindu) numerals originally.

I wonder why credit/debit cards still have the magnetic stripe even when it also has the chip. The chip adds security (afaik it's significantly harder to copy by simply trying to read it), but this security is completely nullified by the card having the magnetic stripe which serves the same function. What's the point?
When you have lost the PIN code of the card for a reason or other, or the Internet connections are down in the store or some other technical reason prevents using the chip-based system, stores can still charge you the old fashioned way, i.e. reading the magnetic stripe and asking you to sign the receipt. I do this always with a certain bank card because I have lost the PIN code due to no fault of my own, and it costs money to order a new one.

I'm glad the name issue with Perussuomalaiset finally got resolved. According to MTV3 news, the official English name of the party is now "The Finns", which is an adequate translation of the meaning of the Finnish name of the party. The extreme nationalism 'ish name "True Finns" cited in this thread never had an official position, despite being widely used in foreign media, including the Wikipedia.
