The glitch you described is that you can be small and fiery at the same time when you hit Bowser and the the axe at the same time. It's well-known. However, in the SMB1 timeattack, the only time you meet Bowser is at the game end, so it will not help anything. In a warpless timeattack, you'll never pick mushrooms or flowers (they waste time) so it doesn't apply there either.

I updated the zip file at https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/famtasia24060.zip - it contains the latest patch now. It appears to be stable and I see no problems in it. It doesn't include the RET (C3) instruction at $C0010 or Finalfighter's the slider patch.

Bisqwit, have you even watched that ice climbers movie? Its impressive that he did it with only 50ish rerecords, but that movie is no where near close to being perfect.
Yes I have. And you just said why it's not on my page.

The ufo is not really fast. I didn't see any situation where it would have really helped. It is possible to go frame by frame. The mix doesn't go too fast - even on regular famtasia you can control it fairly well if you set the execution speed to something like 20%. On the 60 fps patch (see the Movie making forum) it's not even a challenge. Find the execution speed settings from Config | Speed.

Nevermind, the newest version seems to not do that. You'll keep me always confused.

I just noticed that in some new versions setting Occupation=2 means that the game will run slowly. What is the difference between setting Occupation=2,ExecSpeed=100 and setting Occupation=1,ExecSpeed=50 ?

What did that quote have to do with your post? Please learn proper quoting. As for warpless SMB2 run, we are still in process of perfecting the warpful one.

So they look exactly the same, but the latter is better for CPU. Good.

What is the difference between setting DrawFrame=2,Occupation=1 and setting DrawFrame=1,Occupation=2 ?

Which reminds me, did you try finalfighter's fix to the Occupation slider? Did it work for you?
Nope, didn't try. I don't need the feature anyway :) Ps: Don't do fullquotes. Please quote only relevant parts.

"Occupation" is just the term Famtasia uses when it writes the frameskip value to its .ini file. They're interchangeable.
[Speed] DrawFrame=2 ExecSpeed=100 Occupation=1 Benchmark=0 AutoFrame=0 FullSpeed=0 So what is this DrawFrame then?

Which features does it now have? - 60 fps? - Mutable sound? - Selectable frameskip? - Sound in sync, despite the audio sampling rate or frameskip? Is the frameskip now to be controlled using the "frame skip" input or the "occupation" control? What is the difference?

Oh, that's pretty long. I don't know how long the NES version is.

but it can be improved considerably by just being consistent with the endings (you tend to jump to 7 alot, in the beginning to 1 once) 7 is best for time. I did 6 when I couldn't do 7 (famtasia allowed keyboard control on every 3rd frame only), and 1 once to just show it. you also do loose some time here and there... Yes - I did some accidents with the wheel, and I was a little sloppy in a couple of places. However it took a few days to make and I really wanted to just get it done, so I think it's acceptable for a first version. Someone (preferably me ;) ) should do a better version sometime. Preferably using more different abilities than I did. how much time difference would there have to be for me to be listed Time is not the only thing that matters. If it looks cooler, even a slower movie could be acceptable. A faster movie could be rejected if it's more boring. It depends. The best bet is to do faster _and_ cooler. :) would a 100% speedrun (perhaps even no dmg taking) version also be listed? If it's good enough to be published, it would end up as a supplement for the regular timeattack.

this version is hardcoded to run at 1 (60fps).
Oh. That's too bad - the frame skip feature is useful when you want to conserve cpu power (on a slow laptop or when sampling at 30 fps) or when going fast-forward (I use skip=50, speed=500% often when verifying my own movies)

paint is not tolerable for screenshots. It messes up the palette and creates dithering where dithering does not belong to.

Btw, when you make screenshots from a NES emulator, better save them as PNG or GIF because they are much better suitable for repetitive low color images than JPG. They should be 4-8 kB of size. This screenshot was a 33 kB JPG.

If it allows me to encode Mega Man 4 properly now as 30 fps (60 fps as image capture speed is too much for this system), you're a hero :)
Seems like you are a hero now!! :) The upcoming Mega Man 4 movie will be having _real_ 30 fps animation instead of the "copy 2 frames, copy 1 frames, copy 2 frames, copy 1 frames" pseudo-30fps we've got used to. I'll see if I can increase the bandwidth between parts to create even higher fps animations. But for a while I'm going for "stable" instead. Ps: In this patch, it seems to be no longer possible to disable audio by putting "0" as buffer size in ini file.

Noticed any traffic changes since the slashdot?
Not significantly. Since the story didn't hit the /. main page, the links are rarely accessed. Maybe only two or three times the usual traffic. Though - I'm seeing a continuous flood of lines in the image server access log... Hope they won't get mad at me at work :)

I think speedruns are art too. I watched the Half-Life speedrun movie and it was very well done in my opinion. One thing I liked most was that the author provided sightseeing views to important/interesting events while waiting. If the only thing the player cares about is time / beating someone, he wouldn't have done that.
