This happens to me sometimes. It really sucks, but it's really one's own fault only.

I wonder if that comment I made about the Solstice world record had anything to do with him redoing it.
Of course it did. I mailed him about this discussion and he started immediately investigating it.

Look, I'm not redoing 3 whole levels just because Link took an extra step or did an extra sword swing, and I know you wouldnt either. Nobody besides us would notice, or even care.
That's wrong attitude. Errors like that, when they cumulate, are sometimes a reason why I reject a movie.

Well that's why he killed lots of enemies on his path all the time... He just didn't go for a hunting spree.

Edit: Speaking of world records, someone over at the Twin Galaxies forums claimed a time of 6:59 in Solstice. I don't think he sent in proof yet, but said he has it on tape. Someone needs to make a new Solstice video.
Does this still apply? There's a 6:29 movie now (6:13 if you count the intro etc off).

You can ask Palatinum aka. Speedrunner.

How was the time counted? Peter's time is 6:57 if you count only the playing time (ignore the first 16 seconds of unskippable intro).

Yes yes. I didn't "release" it yet - I started encoding it and set a timer to add the file to the tracker and then went sleeping. When I woke up, it had 32 downloaders and I had forgot to put the autoseeder up. Should work now :) Time to finish the release... PS: Welcome to the board. You're from the ITG staff, right?

Solstice has already been done and improved several times by Peter Bucher aka Exim.

But I have to agree that it would be a good motivator to create even more impressive movies. More effect with less actions is always better.

This version looks good. I would have preferred you not to do a doublejump the second time (because it went off screen and didn't seem very necessary), but I accept it. I liked how you walked close to Ostro and repeated its movements. It was very menacing and cool. One thing I think nobody has mentioned: Try accuracy at doors. Doors are difficult to enter because the game doesn't accept if you press up too early, but try it nevertheless. You don't need to be fully positioned with a door to enter it. If you can enter the door earlier, it's better. This applies when you are approacing the door directly from the right or left side. In the latest SMB2 movies I have noticed that both you and Sleepz used to enter doors at the far end of the door. Getting it right might save about 20 frames from the whole movie :) You did the second door (the one that leads to cave) in this version very well.

Thanks. Here's an AVI of it. It shows the keypad input too. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/cv2floorv2.avi - size: 1.3 MB, length: 45 seconds

It's long, it has fluency errors and Boco said she's going to redo it anyway. I did create an avi (unresampled high-quality one), but I ran out of disk space when I tried to record Batman so I had to delete that.

You sure love the "edit post" function :) I always see you doing "POST /posting.php" s many times when I observe the access log, but I never know where are your posts because they're just edits and edits don't show as "new posts" in the front page...

I tried "dancing" in my latest SMB2 run (already obsoleted) in the quicksand of the 6-3 level. But due to the slow motion and lag in sound I missed the rhythm :)

You can observe and it can be proven that using an emulator doesn't remove the digitalness. Indeed nobody could play like that - it's too difficult. But the fun is that emulator movies are not limited to skill.

This is a language problem. People need a term that explains precisely how the movies are done. We already have the term "timeattack", but it's not a term that tells anyone that the movie has been made with emulator using undo and slow motion. Because they don't have that term, they say it's "fake" because it's something else than they would expect when watching the movie - a recording of someone playing the game by normal means.

As a nonregistered user I have found Fileplanet too hard to use. I'm not going to use it.
