I have had these movies postponed for quite a long time, but I can't decide which to publish on the web page, if any. Opinions please. Double Dragon by Mike Larson - first attempt Double Dragon by Phil Côté - first attempt Double Dragon by Mike Larson - 1.5 minutes faster Double Dragon 2 by Mike Larson Double Dragon 3 by Mike Larson All of them are for USA versions.

I just tried the Japanese version, and Famtasia refuses to even load it (it's an FDS game).
Famtasia has good support for FDS games. Otherwise we couldn't have played the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2.

Ok I gave up with that one, but a new Castlevania timeattack movie release was made anyway. The avi file will be downloadable within a few hours.

Try reading the earlier threads about movie recording problems.

Battle of Olympus
Too long, but I'd like to see it anyway. It's hard to play perfectly, because you need lots olives (which you get only by fighting), many enemies are unavoidable and the hero can't walk while swinging his weapon. It's similar in difficulty to Simon's Quest.

I'm working on that, but someone may get it finished before me because I'm also working on some other things.

I have a 17:06 long movie (fmv) of that game, but I don't yet know if I can publish it. It origins from http://www.din.or.jp/~urushi/fam/fam.htm. There's also a 31:05 long Zelda movie btw.

I don't see point on that. You can just slow down Warp's movie by 16% and nobody can tell the difference to the USA version.

Famtasia not suck so much (by displaying only some frames, and having crappy sound support)
Crappy sound support in what way? - Batman and TMHT are on the submission-happily-accepted list aka. idea list, but you're right that Batman might be a little boring. I'm not so sure about TMHT. Sleepz: I have not met problems running Castlevania 3 or Battle of Olympus in Famtasia.

I told Morimoto about Genisto's new SMB3j movie. Here's what he replied.
参りました。脱帽です。 全部の面が抜かれてた。自分も試したけど 出来なかったこともかなりありました。
Unfortunately I can't quite figure out what he's saying. Excite translates it like this:
It went. It is taking its hat off. All fields were extracted. Although he also tries and cooks It was not sometimes able to do considerably.
Babelfish translates it like this:
It was defeated. It is taking hat off. The all aspect has made a foolish mistake. However by your tried, considerably also comes out and has not started.
In rômaji (the latin alphabets), the text is as follows:
mairimashita. datsubou desu. zenbu no men ga nukareteta. jibun mo tameshita kedo dekinakatta koto mo kanari arimashita.
The first line is clear - Morimoto respects the new record, but the rest is unclear. Excite thinks "nukareteta" is based on the "nuku" verb (to extract) and Babelfish thinks it's "nukaru" (to make a mistake). Whichever way, the subject is even more unclear. Does anyone else here understand Japanese better? I think it says "I am defeated. I take my hat off. I did mistakes everywhere. However despite how hard it was attempted, the improvement is quite small."

How do I take snapshots of the action in Famtasia? Is it as simple as pressing a key, or do I need another program?
In Windows you can take screenshot from almost any program by pressing alt+printscreen. The image will be on clipboard. Read your Windows manual.

hmm, never heard of this radio show; I visited their forums, and there really isn't much going on about superplay videos.
I spent a few days on their irc channels and didn't see anyone talk even once about speedruns or timeattacks, despite it being an open topic for their 41st episode. Guess those are more like Counterstrike-type people.

Irrelevant. I quote the board rules (which you should have read by now): The focus on every post should be your text. This means that overly big signatures (> 3 lines), signatures that distract from the posting or overly big avatars (> 80x80) are not allowed.

Don't you have a machine running windows? Just curious...
No, and am not going to have. It's waste to run Windows in a computer :) I feel a little handless with it. I can do everything I need with Linux (like watch anime or irc) and there are many things I can't do fluently enough with Windows (like develop unix programs or remotely use other unix machines). Besides, there are a myriad of reasons why I dislike Microsoft. Currently Famtasia and Igowin are the only programs I need a Windows compatibility layer for. For a long time Scream Tracker 3 was the only reason for me to keep Windows 98 on my disk (to run DOS with MPU-401 emulation), but since I haven't got anything done with it for a long time, I don't have that reason anymore.

How about posting Masakado's Famtasia run-throughs of Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Ryukenden II? They're pretty good. Have you seen them yet?
Never heard of them before. [Edit: Oops.] I don't read forum posts that announce new movies. As stated in the board rules, these forums are not the right place to publish your movies. Read the can you add my video section of the tasvideos FAQ for instructions.

they all go horribly, horribly out of synch, and usually fairly early on in the movie as well.
The beginning of the game is the most vulnerable point of movie making. It's a good idea to record the first 10-20 seconds, then stop, verify it, and resume it or restart if it was broken - then repeat the stop+verify+resume procedure periodically later on.

I have never heard an explanation for ostro's name before. I tried to look it on dictionary (when I was a kid), but it didn't reveal anything. And until now, I didn't even know the english name of that bird, ostrich. It does make some sense. However I'll continue to use those names as they were written in the instruction manual, because that's how my brain has already hardwired them :)

I would accept VirtuaNES movies if it worked in wine, but currently only Famtasia ones are accepted. Starting VirtuaNES.exe with regular wine: Doing the same as root: When starting as root, this is also outputted to terminal:
err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll winealsa.drv still not found
fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no instance created for interface {279afa83-4981-11ce-a521-0020af0be560} of class {47d4d946-62e8-11cf-93bc-444553540000}, hres is 0x88780078
For some reason, I get the exactly same with winex.

The block bounces off from the character's neck and hits the enemy once per each bounce. It was an awesome finding first applied by Genisto.

I just published Sleepz's Super Mario Bros 2 timeattack in 8:43. When I started working with a timeattack for this game in January 1 2004, I had no idea that it can be done in under 9 minutes. I was long struggling to get it even under 10 minutes. Here's a brief history of what things I have discovered (or seen others discovering) at SMB2 during the making of these timeattacks, in cronological order. - Luigi is not the best character to play all levels. - Jumping from a vine speeds climbing significantly. - Holding A while falling slows down falling, especially with Luigi. - The ceiling has a nice passage that can be abused in 7-2. - Ostro's egg spitting rate must not be slowed down by throwing eggs a it. - The ceiling in 7-2 has a greater passage that can be abused a lot. - The world 6 is faster to play than the world 5, after all. - The doublejump trick - saves time in 1-2 and 7-1. - Ostro's magic ball can be grabbed in air - saves time and looks cool - A block can be put bouncing to induce damage faster. - Toad runs faster when carrying something. - The waterfall shortcut in 1-1 is faster than the vine way, after all. Plus a myriad of very local optimizations. Hmm... hope I didn't forget anything.

Not only. The european SMB is faster anyway. Famtasia only adds more speed on top of that. When I first saw the USA Super Mario Bros ages ago on a pirate 51-on-1 multicart, I thought it's slow because it's a pirate cart. I had no idea the USA version is slower than the European version by default.

After a little inspection, it seems like it's going to go under 10 minutes or maybe even under 9 minutes before it can be released :)
