If you're trying to say I shouldn't have published it, I agree. What is done is done :)

This shadowgate movie consumes only three torches. I'll publish it when the author responds me with the information that is needed in file naming.

It's a complicated game indeed, so I guess it won't be boring either.

The person who holds the world record for this game (something in the low 33s) watched my video, and he said I didn't use the fastest route. He tried using my route and got 36 minutes, which probably means that the route he uses is better (the only reason my video is faster than the world record is because of the near perfect fighting).
Are you planning to do a new version?

I give up with this game, i realized that it depends too much on luck the randomness of enemies, and sometimes you have to slow down here to speed up there, it doesn't follow a logic pattern.
Do you have to slow down to affect the randomness, or does it work also by press arbitrary buttons during walking?

I agree it's distracting. I recolored it a bit and moved it to the corner, but still it managed to take the attention of the whole movie and attract it to the little blinking box in the corner instead. (I tested with Rygar and Mega Man 4.) Maybe I shouldn't do that then...

I've been thinking of some ideas. Here's an implementation of one of them - I saw this already done by someone somewhere, so I decided to test it myself. [Edit: removed obsolete Kung Fu link and image] Notice that tiny gray box near the bottom edge of the screen. It represents the NES controller.

Besides, WMV is a proprietary closed format with only a few codecs/players available, and it's a quite old MPEG4 implementation, definitely not the one with the highest quality. Using some more open and modern MPEG4 implementation such as Xvid or DivX (packed inside an AVI) is in my opinion a better idea.
Surprisingly, WMV is a container format like AVI, not limited to a single codec. Arc's Marble Maddess movie for example is encoded using "MSS2" codec which I have no means of decoding, while the cup stacking movie at the same page has the video encoding in MsMPEG4v3 codec (MP43) aka "DivX ;-)". However the format itself is covered by patents and the MsMPEG4v3 is indeed old so I'm not trying to deny what you said.

pagefault also wants to add AVI support
If I can have a soundtrack logging (wav or mp3) in the emulator, I can capture video using an external program just fine. (That's how I made talesofphantasia-intro-finnish.avi and chronotrigger-intro-finnish.avi with snes9x.)

Cool. zsnes is indeed GPL but it's a little out of my scope as it's written mainly in assembler... (brainless in my opinion, but that's just my opinion).

What is needed is the ability to make quicksaves during the movie recording (or replaying) *any time* - like you'd do when you're playing normally, and the ability to load any of those quicksaves while recording *any time* so that the recorder will automatically also undo the relevant length of the recording. Desyncs should be impossible with this method (I don't know why they happen in Famtasia, probably some bug). The only thing you have to safeguard against is for loading a quicksave that wasn't made during the recording of this movie. Grain of 2 minutes is highly useless in my opinion.

You can't quicksave in middle of a movie. Our new method has chapter support, which will allow you to rerecord from any chapter point you previously defined.
What does this mean?
When you rerecord, everything that previously was after is erased.
That's how it should be too.

On the other hand, it could be quite funny to show the "bloopers", like Mario attempting the walljump trick 800 times... Or then not.

I moved here the posts from the Kung Fu thread. It may have messed up the post counters a bit but they're fixed soon. :)

Would do that if it were possible... Moderation only allows to move complete threads, not partial. Could hack the database directly... hmm.

One problem is now that the overuse of Wheel doesn't look nearly as good as a more versatile utilization of different abilities, despite it being faster. I'll attach here the first version, which won't be published anyway, in case someone wants to see how it went. It doesn't run - I didn't know it's possible. It plays the first three worlds. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/bisqwit-kirbyadv-backup1.fmv (Applies to the .. hmm, European version, which seems speedwise identical to the USA version this time.)

Unless it's radically different from the published 2 player version, I don't think I'll publish it. Or I add it as a note only. That's still an option for Genisto's version too (I haven't even watched it yet - too much other things going on).
