I suppose you could argue that the rapid-pause cheat in MM1 is no better
The pause trick in MM1 is not a cheat, but an exploit. It works because the game incorrectly redoes collision checks every time pause is removed. The MM3 jump trick is an intentionally left debugging functionality.
-The fight against "Airman" was not cool. Morimoto did it without getting hit and used the regular gun.
The copies of MM2 bosses in MM3 are not very exact copies. They don't act exactly the same, and their dynamics are a little different. Airman is not the only boss that is more difficult in MM3 than was in MM2.
Thanks for posting this. I like this WIP board idea.
Thanks.

This is Phil's (probably) first attempt on Hudson's Adventure Island. He says it is quite tough. The movie length is 40:27. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/phil-aisland.fmv My feedback on this movie was:
I watched this movie now as far as it went before going desync. It's quite long. As far as I see, it doesn't involve very much planning - it's very straightforward, like Super Mario Bros. It also doesn't seem very superhuman - anyone could play like that when given some time to train it. My opinion is that it isn't worthy enough to be published on a page that supposedly contains plays that are impressive because they look nearly impossible - even if it is the fastest possible run through this game.
I felt a little bad on discarding a movie that has no doubt had lots of work in creating (the author later said 25-30 hours), but it went to the "author has merely solved the game" category of my earlier post in the Sites forum. Does anyone want to look at it and have a second opinion? Note: To replay the movie, you need to turn on the "support undocumented opcodes" option in Famtasia.

This is Genisto's first attempt on Renegade, length 17:28. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/genisto-renegade.fmv Admittedly quite briefly I commented it like this:
> Renegade done in 17:28. This movie looked very boring. I'm rejecting it.
Does anyone want to look at it and have a second opinion?

This is Dustin's third attempt on Mega Man 3. His first attempt was 52 minutes long, this is 38.5 minutes long. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/dustin3-megaman3.fmv Note: Despite that the author says it's Mega Man 3, you need a Rock Man 3 ROM to replay it. The major controversory thing in this movie is that the author uses the debugging keys from the second controller to boost the jumps. I don't allow it, because it's not a glitch in the game: it's a secret that was made for debugging purposes. I don't allow it for the same reason I wouldn't allow the uuddlrlrabs trick in Gradius. The author even used it sometimes where it isn't needed. The list of other problems I notified the author about included: - Excess shots in every place - Sliding is not perfect - Things that were done quicker in my (broken) attempt on January. Does anyone want to look at it and have a second opinion?

This is Phil's first attempt on G.I.Joe. He says he's sure it can be beaten. https://files.tasvideos.org/bisqwit/phil-gijoe.fmv

Does anyone want to look at it and have a second opinion? You need the "G.I. Joe (U) [T-Spa].nes" ROM (apparently a spanish translation) to replay it.

This idea sounds good enough that I'll try it.

I often reject movie submissions for various reasons. Most common reasons that accumulate to the decision of rejection are: - The playing doesn't look perfect (waits here and there) - The play is straightforward and provides no surprises (i.e. the player has merely solved the game, following a predefined path) - Style mistakes (excess shots, wobbling, monotonous play) My question is - what should I do with the movies that don't make it? So far, I have usually done this: - I have straight informed the author that I am not taking the movie unless it's improved (and explained how to improve it). Usually this has resulted in an improved movie. - Published it anyway if I have been bored (very rare) Phil suggested I publish those movies in fmv-only format. Currently I have made only one fmv-only publication - Yy's SMB1 run - and that's only because I think it's high quality enough but too similar to the other SMB1 run to pay the effort of encoding an AVI file. What do you all think? I would like to have only high quality movies on my site. My favourite movie so far is Morimoto's Rock Man 2 movie, and I would like to have more movies like that - not just done-as-fast-as-possible movies or played-in-a-weird-style movies.

All right, I quit with this game. My estimation of ~2 minutes of improvement was crushed when I noticed that I was entering the fourth mansion almost a minute later than in the previous movie, although I was three minutes ahead in some earlier position. The major difference to the previous version was that I wasn't buying the chain whip, and I also found some minor optimizations, but apparently the fact that leather whip is not so powerful... Does someone else want to try? :) Does anyone want the fmv of my (incomplete) successor attempt? Other items on my pending list currently, in no specific order and without schedule: - Improvement of the SMB2 (USA) movie (various small fixes) - Improvement of the Solomon's Key movie (major fix in room 17) - 2-player Mario Bros movie (played alone) - Improvement of the Castlevania movie (major fix in the last battle)

However, I am not sure how to exit Famtasia while recording a movie, then start it up later and finish reocording the movie. Is there a way to do this or do you have to make movies in one sitting?
If you load a quicksave while Famtasia is in the playback mode, it starts rerecording immediately from the position you loaded.

I'm doing something really interesting with this game, i'm making a timeattack in 2 player controlling both characters at the same time, i think it'll be funny to see the synchronization between the characters.
Good luck! I tried with Mario Bros and found it extremely difficult! (But not impossible - who knows if I end up publishing something)

Apparently I was wrong. Wrecking Crew doesn't allow both players to play simultaneously.

Also I'd like to see a timeattack on Wrecking Crew. =)
Wrecking Crew crossed my mind when I was thinking of games that can be played with two players simultaneously. However, I think Wrecking Crew is one of those games that are more fun to play than to watch. There was some other of that kind that someone here already said to be doing.

However, personally I would prefer watching the twice longer version which does not use the invulnerability cheat, specially if it requires stunning acrobatics and other beautiful tricks to get through that fast.
Many people have been requesting for a Rockman / Megaman movie that doesn't use the pause trick to kill the robot masters quickly. I am uncertain if this trick is acceptable or not. Nevertheless, I like the movie in question.
Warp wrote:
I must admit, however, that disqualifying a timeattack because you can't hear the music (specially if allowing the music to be heard would mean the timeattack will be slower) may be a bit extreme...
I did eventually publish it. Anyone can now observe and judge if the game can be played as fast with less shooting or not.

That's not the point. It's not about personal information. It's of the trouble the user has to go through to get what he wants. I'm not willing to jump through hoops.

I'm not sure whether bochs emulates pentium very well, but what I'm pretty sure is that it isn't fast (enough for that kind of use).

My system had been intruded somewhere between February and March 2004. The intruded had installed the "Suckit" rootkit, which I detected only today and shut down the computer immediately thereafter. Things should be little better now.

I have tried WineX without success. I haven't tried vmware, because as far as I know, it's not free. And I have lost my Windows 95 cd anyway.

No. - some email software don't recognize it as a binary file and send it as a (broken) text/plain format - some rar versions use different compression methods which appear compatible but are broken when decompressed with incompatible version - zip is very effecient for .fmv files - zip is readily available for different operating systems, rar is not
