Answers to some questions… Re: Starred movies Unless a better solution emerges, the starred movies mechanism will be using the same method as earlier, i.e. admin picks & inheritance. However, the criters for choosing the stars are different. There's no longer a per-game starred movies limit, for instance. It was one of the most annoying limits in my opinion. For starters, I restore the old starred movie list. However, due to obsoletions, it will immediately need changes. The stars will be called specifically that, "special stars", and no longer a vague term like "recommended movies". Maybe a poll will be created for the desired mechanism of how stars are granted, similarly to how was done with the submission feedback system. Re: When will it be published When the tester feedback suggests that it has nothing significant that should be fixed. (Excluding things that also should be fixed in the current site.) Re: New data The data content will be pretty much the same. Some new pages are written, some content is moved around. The only significant new thing is that movie screenshots can be annotated with a description, explaining what happens in the screenshot. This will be used as a caption to wherever the screenshot is used to decorate text. EDIT: Actually, this part I already decided to publish, so editors can start adding descriptions to screenshots… They are shown only at NewMovies.html for now.

Unrelated image (though I suppose there's some hidden message that the poster wants to convey), message begins with language associated with responses, not topic starters, and generally, what is Zelda discussion doing on the off-topic board? What's your point? Locking this thread. Do not start a new one immediately, and do not continue this discussion in some unrelated thread, or I will ban you from posting.

A round of changes has been implemented, new feedback is desired :) Spoiler 1: Starred movies are coming back. Also, edits to certain pages, such as the Articles page, are welcome. The same accounts and privileges work on the testing site as on the main site. The changes will be merged (without history) when the testing period is over.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll tweak some stuff and ask for another round of opinions when I'm done :) More testers are not needed.

Is that somewhere near Radiocity, the place that seems to be highly popular among raytracers? Now, can anyone actually try to answer mr. Highness's question?

Incorrect... it's Randil's fifth version, and before that, Exim had his eighth version. At our current site, we only have Exim's eighth version; the previous ones are not archived. (Still some history revival TODO it seems.)

Exactly when was "shaving frames" *not* the focus of TASes in this site? As far as I can remember, and I have been here from the very beginning, maximal speed optimization has *always* been the focus. The very first attempts with an almost unusable Famtasia were focused on completing games as fast as possible, by using any means. When I submitted my first Rygar TAS like one million years ago, a few comments were already of the type "you could save a few frames by doing this and that". The goal has always been entertainment by speed, not at the cost of speed. Why do some people talk as if this was a machinima video website in the past, and slowly converted to a TAS website?
Actually, my first intention was precisely to have this as a "machinima" website. In case I guessed the meaning of that weird word wrong, I mean that I originally intended the site to be a collection of all kinds of weird gameplay videos that have been created by utilizing tools, without changing the actual games.

For your information, I fixed a bug with the rating indicator that caused low ratings (indicated in blue tones) to be indicated in too bright a colour, often causing a bright white spot on the low region even when relatively few ratings actually occur on that region. It was a miscalculation in the mixture of HSV & YUV colorspaces aiming to calculate a realistic brightness value representing the rating's strength in that particular region. Here's how the colours work. On X axis, is the hue. It indicates the value of the rating. 0 = on the left side, 10 = on the right side. On Y axis, is the brightness. It indicates the popularity of that particular rating option. Top = Nobody has voted that option, bottom = most people have voted that option. Here's how the colours used to be indicated, when it was buggy. Here's how they are indicated after the bug was fixed. Here's how they would be indicated if the relative brightness differences of red, green and blue were not observed in the calculation (i.e. a full blue would be treated as equally bright as a full green): I'm kind of torn how to actually go ahead with the colours :I

I also checked the tasvideos site and realised the torrent I have updated has been removed of the tracker (because it was obseleted). Are the obseleted torrents always deleted off the tracker or did this just happen when the server changed?
That is off-topic in this thread, but yes, obsoleted torrents are usually deleted unless there's good reason to keep them. They are not deleted automatically; I have to manually scan through the torrent list and determine which ones are obsolete and move them out from the accepted list. I do that every once in a while; sometimes a few months may pass before I do it the next time. As for the Chrono Cross torrents, they use a different port because they use a different tracker. And they use a different tracker so that those who run the autoseeder for TASVideos, are not forced to download&autoseed the large Chrono Cross videos whenever they are requested by someone, because they are not part of the site's official selection.

* 49 frames gained in African Mines much because I found a better way to take on the boss. The trick is to hit him just before he transforms, otherwise the transformation will be slower. * 118 frames gained on The Moon mostly by better glitch abusing and better boss fight. * 62 frames gained in Dracula Duck's castle or last visit in Transylvania - whatever you want to call it. Spot this yourself:)
Cool improvements. Though I don't understand what's the deal with the moon thing :)

What does the new layout affect exactly? Has editing changed?, has a complete redesign been placed?, is it just aesthetic?
It is mostly aesthetic. Some content was moved around and some new pages were written, but mostly, it's just to bring the style of the site forth by a few years. EDIT: Oh, and for testers, note: It uses a backup database, which is out-of-sync with the main site. So you can also do edits there without worries of destroying anything meaningful. (Do not change torrents/images though. The forums are not duplicated, either.)

I'm testing a new layout for the main site. I would like to have a couple of beta testers who want to test it and suggest improvements. Apply by private-messaging me. The time-window for this is the next few days from this posting. I could post the testing address here... But I don't know if it's better to do a full public beta rather than a small test group beta, so I'm going this way now.

I don't wish to make it into an automatic redirection, because otherwise people will start forming permanent links to the wrong address, seeing that it will redirect to the right thing anyway.

For now, they're physically the very same thing.
