You already heard from Bisqwit. The polls were added when there were over 100 submissions in queue; in order help judges pick a popular movie without having to read through all the submissions. As a judge you are suppose to read through the whole thread before accepting or rejecting a movie, so when there are 10 movies in queue the poll is not really any help.
That being said, I publicly apologize for going ahead with this plan without consulting with the other judges first -- especially to Adelikat, since he was the first one to complain to me about it. But, in the same breath, I stand by my opinion, which is that the best way to get useful feedback in a situation like this is simply to go ahead with the plan. Had it been discussed aforehand, nothing would have happened, because people are generally quite change-phobic, and because it usually happens that before any useful decision is reached, I've long forgot to follow the discussion.

In my opinion, the soundtrack is kind of a letdown. Especially the percussion: I don't think they used the noise channel as skillfully as they did in Rockman 2 and Rockman 3. The eight stages' music have a Megaman5'y feel to them. I think it is funny that they reused some themes from MM2 though. :) Awaiting to see a SDA speedrun of it...

Maybe I should add "post a YES reply" / "post a NO reply" / "post a MEH reply" buttons to where the poll was, and those would simply start composing a reply to the thread with "Yes vote" etc. prefilled automatically in the post :)

Submission voting system has now been removed (temporarily) due to someone's request. Because I'm kind of in hurry and somewhat lazy, I'll just quote myself quoting something else here.

<Bisqwit> At Wikipedia's deletion discussion pages: "ATTENTION! If you came here because someone asked you to, or you read a message on another website, please note that this is not a majority vote, but rather a discussion to establish a consensus among Wikipedia editors on whether a page is suitable for this encyclopedia." <Bisqwit> The rationale with the votes for publications are the same.
It's not the votes that decide; it's the explanations people provide. The votes are just there to steer the judges' attention, and since the number of submissions compared to the number of judges is so much more manageable now than it used to be, the numbers are not really needed now. Also, people have been bickering over votes rather than the content of the submission, and that's hardly productive. I hope this gets us into a more productive direction!

Uh.. doesn't Linux have some mouse (or trackpoint) control panel thing??
This one is Windows, and I don't think any control panel can overcome physical limitations -- specifically, that moving the cursor gets more inaccurate the more you tilt the tap. With mouse, you can easily control where exactly you want your hand to stop ― you can prepare the entire motion from start to end without need for high reaction time, whereas with the tap, you will have to tilt it to a certain direction, and then stop tilting the tap exactly 0.05 seconds later or so, and push the button; if you stop at the wrong moment, the cursor has already missed the point. With mouse, it is a problem of "location" that must be done fast enough. With trackpoint, it is a problem of "timing" and timing only. Superficially similar, but not really the same. EDIT: Allright, I completed it using the touchpad instead :) Now in 12 10...

Yeah. Unfortunately, the speed of the mouse cursor, when you use trackpoint, does not depend on the speed of your hand movement, but on the degree you tilt the trackpoint tip; and that has a maximum velocity, and it gets very inaccurate when you tilt it a lot. So yeah. This was an issue also in a certain room in Lineage. But trackpoint has its advantages, especially when you have to maintain a continuous motion, such as in FPS games. No running out of table space and having to scoop the table over and over again.

Stuck in 5 and 8. 5 seems to be rather trackpoint-unfriendly. A tablet would be nice.

Crappy D-Link router crashed and needed rebooting, which I couldn't do until I was physically at the location.

Could someone who was part of making this chage go through how it works? Like what ranks there are and how they are separated.
BaxterRank := SUM of (movie_rating ^ 2.5 / number_of_authors ^ 0.5 / (If movie is obsoleted, 1/0.000001, else 1)) for each movie the author has been listed as player. If BaxterRank = 0 AND user has contributed movies, BaxterRank := 0.000000000001 If BaxterRank > 0 AND user does not have a special rank (coder etc.): If BaxterRank < 1 THEN rank:='Former Player' ElseIf BaxterRank < 250 THEN rank:='Player' ElseIf BaxterRank < 500 THEN rank:='Active player' ElseIf BaxterRank < 1000 THEN rank:='Experienced player' ElseIf BaxterRank < 2000 THEN rank:='Skilled player' Else rank:='Expert player' EndIf EndIf

Baxter's proposal has now been activated with great help from him in the last stages of planning. Admins note: The User editor on the main site is not yet fully upgraded to handle these ranks (as they're automatic anyway).

That's odd. I recorded with gocha's 1.43-improvement15, try using it.
What's the difference between improvement7 and improvement15? Are there supposed to be differences affecting sync? (Because you know, I cannot use Windows programs on Linux. Not comfortably, anyway.)

It desyncs for me in the first character selection screen. I'm using 1.43-improvement7-src-dehacked, the same I always use for 1.43 and 1.43wip1 movie playback. WIP1 and updown settings are automatically recognized, and the ROM was positively identified.

Well, it does skip the whole flag animation and walking into the castle, no idea how many frames that is but I guess he timed it.
Are you saying that it is impossible to jump into the foot of the flagpole in 3–2 the way it was done in most other levels?

I don't understand 3–2. How can that be fast, you spend so much time setting up this trick? The delay done there looks greater than the 21-frame rule and anything needed to avoid fireworks, either.

Thanks for the information, Baxter & ShinyDoofy. This is the first time I hear of a NES game abusing the 8 sprites per scanline hardware limit purposefully.

Hmm I guess you meant that providing non evidence will lead to arguments which typically go no where. I was more asking for my own interest than arguing though.
Allright, let's try it: I know deep in my heart, that God exists -- this is called circular reasoning, but I know because God has put the trust into me --, and that Holy Spirit lives in me and rejoices when things happen that are God's will, and saddens when things happen that are not. I have experienced this joy, and it's many orders of magnitude greater joy than I have ever experienced when hearing the most amusing joke, or eating the most delicious food, or when bonding with the best friends, or when participating in the greatest musical concert, or when acquiring the most priced material possessions (for me anyway), or when being healed from a gruelling sickness. I have seen God answer prayers miraculously (make things possible when the man sees no possible way), and I have heard accurate prophecies and words of knowledge. I have seen different God-fearing people follow God's instructions to complete a plan, where no single person knows the big picture until the puzzle pieces come together. These things, make a very compelling argument that I cannot possibly ever prove to you.

Thanks, although I did not seek evidence, but your personal reasoning.
The term "reasoning" goes hand-to-hand with the term "evidence". I know you didn't say so, but it is difficult if not impossible to reason with anything if you cannot present evidence. Attempts are futile, because as long as evidence is not presented, it only calls for further arguments.

I went ahead and answered this question privately, because I don't think I'm ready to talk about it publicly.

If so, do go into specific areas you think it could be an assistance, perhaps not only to TASers, but to normal game players as well.
Yes, I think it has potential for being an useful tool for all purposes of extending the emulator's functionality, provided that sufficient hooks to the emulator's functionality are provided :) For example, I don't think that I could produce my tile tracker as a LUA script... without access to scrolling registers and the whole graphical screens, and fast screen pasting/blending functions in LUA. I haven't much ventured into trying to guess what LUA will be used for in the future; other people are much ahead me in ideas.

do you play any instrument?
I playing nothing very well, but currently I possess the following musical instruments: -- my voice (my range is from E-2 to B-3 (chest*), or G-3 to A-4 (falsetto); varies by a few semitones depending on the day and the time of day) -- a piano keyboard (I can play melodies I remember with it, and repeat some chords, but I can't follow a rhythm and I have never received any training for it.) -- an 18-note ocarina (can play simple melodies with it by note memory alone, or more complex ones by following a fingering chart.) -- a flute (I have just learned how to produce notes from the lowest octave, excluding F (for some reason, I can't produce F despite the correct fingering); haven't played any melodies yet) *) Meaning there's exactly one transponation on which I can sing "taivaan isä pitää huolta lapsistaan ja antaa voimaa päivään uuteen" (Father in Heaven takes care of his children, and empowers for the day new) without troubles.

Somewhere, I use it, and somewhere else, I don't. Probably I haven't installed it in that laptop in particular. Also, I haven't actually tested whether the undo close also restores form contents.

No idea. I suppose that the stereotype of a nerd, in the particular aspect of considering eating to be a necessary interruption of daily routine best dealt with finding the formula/menu that fulfills the nutritionary requirements and then applying it each day, fits me to some degree.

The tracker is hosted on the same site as the forums, and the main web pages. So no, the server is not down.
