Liked it. Especially item juggling, as usual.

I take it you're not wondering that anymore.

I explained yesterday why a problem exists with these suggestions. 1) People would use haplessly something like 10% because it "looks right", which means I cannot then even remove the feature because it would make text unreadable. 2) People would think it's a bug and stack many tags to get the text smaller. A workaround for B) is not possible because the bbcode parser is not a state machine. It does not parse in a way that would allow to detect nesting. Xkeeper: Getting people banned was not my motivation for making that chance. My motivation was to discourage using bad font sizes. Only after I noticed that people you use it even with more vigor I noticed that at least it's now easier to decide to ban someone who does that intentionally. See Warp's post above. EDIT: I'll restore the normal behavior of that tag, and start handling abuses differently.

I tried the Song of Time. It's simple enough :) http://bisqwit.iki.fi/kala/bisq_oot.ogg The background track is composed in Scream Tracker 3, but the ocarina play was recorded using a microphone.

According to DK64_MASTER, > RT-55J wrote: > > I've had problems I use Windows 98. No he didn't. Who has invented that people need to "fix" other people's sayings? I find that annoying. Not the least because it disturbs the normal rhythm of reading. You read from up to down, and only once you're already past the quote, you learn that the quote you just read was a lie. It forces to reinterpret the message and read it again. It is an annoyance to readers. Also, rewriting other people's words is an offense towards those whom you misquote; it is badmouthing them.

True. But where are all the volunteers? Though none of the current moderators were chosen by volunteering, either. Except, not-sure-but-think-so, Omega. Vatchern did volunteer at a time, but it didn't work out without problem. Also, moderators cannot currently ban users, but a change is being implemented.

non-confrontational behavior
That's me, I guess. In FPS games, I also prefer non-confrontational weapons such as snarks or tripmines rather than traditional guns. It is probably characteristic for intellectual persons, to devise things that do stuff than to do stuff. Edit: I do not mean to imply that anyone is stupid. It was merely self-reflection.

Personally I think it's way better to say "Xkeeper stop with the annoying shit or I'll ban you for 24 hours" instead of saying "Xkeeper I just modified stuff so now if you keep doing this extra annoying shit I'll ban you for 24 hours", but really it's kinda the same thing and since it's Xkeeper I'm not about to complain.
You're right that that would be a more straightforward way. In comparison, my way accomplished these: ― Don't need to warn each person individually ― Don't need to warn at all; the person gets the hint without intervention. With the cost of: ― Reasonable use of the abnormal sizes was also disabled. Marginal case, if you ask me.

Certainly. But would he have posted it then? No, he posted it because there was that text-producing effect. Which, earned him 24 hours by the way.

For the record, my intention was for it to replace the text entirely, but unfortunately, it would have been technically were difficult to implement such a feature. Regardless, I find it very alarming that Xkeeper some people use that purposefully now to show that message.

Yes. I seem to like subtle discouragement of slightly malignant behavior by technical means.

I liked it. Then again, I'm not an expert on this game so I don't know what I missed. Regardless, I think doing a 2p was a good idea, so you can showcase perfection, curiosity points and blunders in the same movie in a manner that makes sense. It works as a double act. Also, congratulations on finding the pause trick.

Is there a game in it? It seems to always to do the same thing.

I'm not familiar with this game, but I think the bounding boxes of those trees are rectangles, not ellipses. Thus, probably, there is nothing in between of those trees even though it appears that there is.

Ah, okay. So what is "max12187566" then? I do not really know much of the Chinese online culture. Here at tasvideos, we require basically these things: ― The real name (included in the publications); it can be written in native script such as hanzi. ― An online handle (forum account name and used in publications); it should be in ASCII, that is, latin alphabets. If your online handle is written in a non-latin script such as hanzi, it is recommended to transcribe it, for example with pinyin, or use an entirely latin alphabet -based online handle instead. I do not recommend using names that end with numbers. If you want to change your account name, send me a private message and I will change it.

To play the movie without downloading the AVI, follow these steps. 1. Download the Direct64 plugin v0.5.03.25 from http://www.emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=26677 2. Download the TAS input plugin from http://tasvideos.org/forum/t/4200 3. Go to your mupen's root directory. -- Delete romsettings.ini there if it exists -- Delete mupen64.cfg there if it exists (do not delete mupen64.ini however) -- Extract the two plugins into the "plugin" directory. -- Remove everything that is in the "save" directory. 4. Launch mupen64 5. Go to Options|Settings, select the following plugins: -- Video plugin: Direct64 v0.5.03.25 -- Input plugin: TAS Input Plugin 0.6 -- Audio plugin: Jabo's DirectSound 1.6 -- RSP plugin: RSP emulation Plugin 6. Click the Config button under Video plugin -- Ensure both "N64 Color" and "N64 Depth Image" are set to "Ignore" -- Check "Enable fog", do not check "Simulate Overscan" -- Settings in "Enhancement" may be left as is 7. Load ROM 8. Load movie 9. Once it desyncs (inputs "AA" on name entry screen), load the movie again. (Yes, this is necessary.) Enjoy. If you need to interrupt the movie for some reason, remove the file in the "save" directory and restart from step 7. If these instructions don't help, then the instructions that worked for me don't work for you and I am unable to help further. Thanks to Raiscan for resolving many of these issues.

Thinking further how this would play together with Tub's idea of per-game entries where different categories for the same game could be mentioned as extras… I still this could be combined. Each category page could basically get the same view; list of games that contain movies matching the category criteria. The game information would contain brief links to other type movies of the same game. Which movie it showcases in the game entry depends on the selected criteria. Hmm…

And "other" is less vague than "concept demo" for a plethora of reasons, right? I don't mean to come off as condescending, but it seems like the same rehashed discussion we always attempt to have, and fail to conclude, every few months.
Okay, maybe I was writing too quickly before having thought it through 100% with consistency and clarity in mind. Will try to make that mistake less often from now on. (Unfortunately, that may mean that I need to post less because these things just don't come off as God's word.) A was thinking like this: ― A "hacks" category should be for "hacks" and nothing else ("concept demo" does not accomplish that) ― There should be a way to include TASes for every game, even the boring ones ―― but without reducing the signal to noise ratio in the site's main content ― In other words, I want to include Princess-only but like said, "concept demos" is something that should go away. And now I'm thinking also these: ― There should be a way to include fancy demonstrations without "speedrun" / quick being an absolute goal.. and without having to put them all in the vague "concept demo" group ― There must be no "dumpster". Shortly: Yes, this seems to be rehashing of old discussion, and no, I don't agree to deleting those movies unless as last resort.

"concept demo" is too vaguely defined, as it aims to accomplish two goals.

I think, instead of deleting some of those runs, there should be categorization, dividing the site… Something like: ― Good runs ― Other runs ― Hack runs "Good" would be those that TASvideos wants to offer "Other" would be those that satisfy a niche curiosity (movies of games that don't really work well as TAS (such as Mario Bros.) or niche goals like CCC in Mario64 and newgame+ in Chrono Trigger) "Hack" would be runs of unlicensed games and hacks. And possibly a "Premium" category for those that are now starred, but with different semantics more aiming towards awarding. Maybe not.

One day, someone (Bisqwit ?) dared anyone to beat the then current run, saying it was optimal already, adding that it'd be even impossible with peach only.
I don't think I have ever claimed any movie of mine as absolutely optimal. Although I do not have a backup of the text of my sixth SMB2 publication, the fourth was: "My fourth attempt on SMB2, which is about 60 seconds faster than the second version and about 30 seconds faster than the third version. Uses warps." I do remember that I mentioned something like "Princess has been entirely neglected in these runs ― perhaps there would be a need for a Princess-only run?" And then it happened that Genisto submitted a SMB2 Princess-only movie, which also obsoleted my sixth SMB2 "any" movie: "Well this time its SMB 2 played with Princess Peach. Done in 09:07 by Genisto UNBELIEVABLE ;). Genisto have a special request. He wants you to put that screenshot, included in the zip, on you're site." (by Phil) I was quite humbled, and this Princess-only obviously obsoleted my old movie, because it was faster. Then came Sleepz's Toad+Luigi movie, and created the second "any" branch, but that's history.
