Yes they do use some of the advantages, and I would say a few megabtyes would be more accurate. So far there none of the videos which have been published using mkv have had need for chapters, or subtitles. However both can be used in the future. An example would be if Jyzero added some explanation of the glitches in his FF6 to the video that can be toggled on, so people have a greater understanding of what is going on. It's extra work, but atleast it's possible now.

Hmm, I think I recall playing this game before and finding it pretty entertaining. Rerecording with the mouse has already been added to zsnes, so when everything gets finalised there and is an accepted format there you can make the run. Although it already works very well, as you can see by the Mario Paint made by me which is on this forum somewhere.

I wouldn't call it a obscure format, nor would I call it very difficult to play. Simply googling "mkv" brings you to the matroska homepage. At the homepage not only is there is there a download for the splitter which lets you view the files in any player, and a nice pack which contains the splitter and decoders to play all of those "obscure" codecs like xvid, divx, wmp7/8 and h.264, but it ALSO gives a list of players which will play mkv files without having to download anything else. These include: Mepia Player Classic Core Media Playerp mplayer VLC 3 of the 4 of those are actually recommended to users in the "Codec problems; sound problems; video problems; broken AVI file problems" section of the FAQ. Which I could have pointed you at anyways. Not only that, but the x264 homepage http://www.x264.nl, ALSO has the matroska splitter up to download. So if you can play x264 files, it's not much of a stretch to play mkv files too... it's on the same page...one line down...

As you already said, you can improve level 1. Not only the Chucks but I beleive it's possible to get the first section a frame or two faster. It's definately possible to collect more coins and a yoshi coin. The second level can only be improved by atleast 3 frames, i'll see about posting a video, but right now am feeling extremely lazy. Not that it would help much, as it's nothing you can really see...

I have had the first one planned for a while, but am holding back for now, as snes9x's sound is TERRIBLE in the game. Plasma is not at all friendly on the ears, and is the best weapon in the game. I was going to start the game when the guys finish the zsnes rerecording. Things to note, if your really are going to do it in snes9x: -Any enemy which is able to drop things, can be manipulated to drop anything you want. So there is no excuse for you NOT to have a Thermal Detonator against any of the bosses. It would be nice to see you get plasma in the first level too, as it's extremely powerful. Vader Masks from every enemy after that would be interesting. -Bosses can be heavily manipulated too. Example: It's possible to keep the Sarlaac from attacking or submerging at all. This speeds things up alot, but is pretty tedious to do. -A no hit run on Jedi shouldn't be too hard without losing speed, but I wouldn't worry about that as there are alot of places where taking damage would save time. Especially in the sand crawler. -Stay as Luke, not only will you have the most powerful gun with him by the time you get to Chewie, but you also slide faster with him, and are a smaller target. Probably more stuff to tell, but that's all I can think of for now. Most of stuff is specific level strategies, which are hard to explain and you can probably figure out yourself.

Good that you finally got around to adding the set commands, now I don't need to hex edit all that information back in myself.

For me SNES9x accepts input when the window isn't in focus anyways, so it's actually pretty easy to do.

No, but it tends to cut out the "swim" sound, which is kinda nice.

I went all the way back and started from the near beginning, and have saved about 100 frames up to the death of the first boss. Unfortunately the enemies in the shaft are now in a much worse position, so I am going to need to experiment to get it do be less horrible.

Movie file is just controller input, it will work with any game you try to play it in. The CRC doesn't really mean anything.

Well, I was up to entering Norfair after killing Kraid, but I have to redo a bunch of stuff, not sure how much yet. I was about 610 frames faster after the first boss, and ~850 where the two routes diverted from each other, but I also picked up an extra missle expansion in that time, which takes atleast 600-700 frames.

I did stupid things BEFORE I did my first TAS. In SMW I fly around like a maniac all the time, doing things most people would call really dumb. Stuff like flying through castles, or in places where you generally don't have room (or safety) to do so. Most of the time it turns out fine, and it's in the name of fun. So yay!

I know, the original clip I was using from a anime was at 119FPS. 119FPS with XVID was about %50 use, encoded with H.264 it ate up all my speed and was choppy as hell.
119 FPS!? Why would you encode something at 119 fps. No source would ever be like that (I guess a game might be) because our eyes register that quickly. Anime would DEFINATELY not be drawn at that speed either, can you imaging drawing 119 images for each second? Anime tends to be pretty low FPS.
(Edit2) Also anybody know of encodeing apps for Windows? Mplayer is just for linux (Bleh ;P) but I want to see if the apps influence encodeing speed, like it does for MPEG4 encodes
I use mplayer in windows, so it must not be linux only.

Hmm, you could try deleting your config file (You were suppose to delete them on updating to the latest WIP) and see if that solves the desync. Is anyone else having this problem, kind of an important question as this movie is the basis of a test. To answer flagitious's question of length: 3 levels, and then it loops. The difficulty does very slowly get harder, but even after looping it 7 times the game isn't much more difficult than the firs time. I did the first three to avoid boring repitition. I also don't know how many loops there are, atleast 10?

I have made a playaround through the first loops of the bug swat in Mario Paint to help test mouse input in ZSNES movies. It was suggested that I post it here for people to view, and as I thought I did a fairly good job of making it entertaining; so here it is. Thanks Nach for the hosting, as i'm still waiting to be set up with new (good) webhost. The latest WIP of ZSNES is needed to watch it.
