Wow! I just watched your time attack for ninja gaiden and it was great! My friend used to play it quite a lot on his nes for speed and had it at about 12 min for his best run (so he says). I guess there was only one thing I saw that you might have missed... In the second section of 6-2 before you get to the screen where there is only a ladder to climb (around 9:35 on the avi file), you kill a guy and a bird and then jump down to kill a hopping thing and climb the ladder from there. I remember when my friend played the game, he just jumped directly from the edge of the platform with the guy on it to the ladder and it took him directly to the next screen (bypassing the hopping thing)
Blarg, your right, and I can give you a reason why I didn't do that too... it stems from that bird which I killed a little earlier. When I first went through that section I didn't kill the bird at all, and it kept me from jumping late enough to trigger that screen change. I went back killed the bird, and SOMEHOW forgot to do that anyways. I acually didn't notice until you brought it up. At this point i'm kind of torn about redoing it, as it would only save 2-3 seconds, and i'm 95% sure hexing in a replacement would throw off the later parts of the movie. I will look for further improvements to make redoing it worth it though... Also about your friend beating it in 12 minutes... I'm really not so sure about that. sdkess has a speedrun on his site which is ~18.5 minutes and Lezard has made a timeattack which was just under 12...

Movie here. Now we get to see if it will acually be useful for something... Edit: Here too, this one has a longer flight.

He was commenting they he liked it even more because you didn't use the murder beam. As I said in the other thread, this movie is exactly what I wanted, and I very much enjoyed it.

Thanks for all the explanations. I understand why you did like that in your movie now. Your English is getting better too! A new idea: at 40070 (I think), could you place two bombs? One to blow up the block, and one a little later, to give speed downward when the block is gone.
My English is not getting better.. I know that everyone write in Easy-English for me.(^^;)
Acually most people have been speaking normal-english, and you have been able to understand it just fine. Also, that 14% run was incredible! If you aren't planning on making another version, I strongly urge you to submit this one. It was really very good.

Taken from the rules: Generally, we only accept hacks which only make the game playable on an emulator. I think your situation might fit into this, maybe you should ask Bisqwit... If you think it's worth it, of course.

Is it possible to do something like this for the name too, to get all the best stats?
He already has the best name possible, there is a chart on GameFAQs which will explain it to you, although it's slightly wrong.... Also i'm glad getting those extra keys worked out for you Acmlm, this really is very good. Although the real question is: Are you REALLY done this time?

i need to map a different key to advance frames, maybe i will use my feet of mouth lol... i am using the right hand on the right shift key, so i have to hold right and keep pressing right shift, that really hurt my hand :S
You could do what I did (eventually) in my Ninja Gaiden run. I used joytokey to bind a button to hit my frame advance key 15 times a second, that way if I wasn't doing anything that didn't require me to get perfect by the frame I could just "fast forward". This was mainly running at the beginning of the level but still, having to hit the frame advance key by hand 10000 times just to get anywhere got old FAST. Also I agree with Blechy, in some games, such as Batman and NG it looks better to dodge enemies rather than kill them. Doing this is alot more difficult on the console, and to anyone who has played the game will in my opinion be more entertaining.

Errm, I assume you already know this, but you can go from normal flying to spinning and then back. You can also turn around while flying by spinning. Also I beleive you can land by sliding along the ground (still in the flying pose) then spin jump into the air and continue flying. I've done this a number of times, but it's always by fluke and i'm not to sure how hard it is to replicate/how much it slows you down. This might help you in a case where you need to fly under a pipe like you used to do (before you flew over it). Attached it a movie of me spinning while flying and reversing directions. It might be known to you, but I don't know if other people know you can do this. Here. I don't have a movie of landing then taking off again with a spin jump, as I was too lazy to do it, but I was talking to someone on IRC earlier, who had done something like it (Although I can't remember who :/)

I dunno, if I was in an armored battle suit I would probably throw myself at things if it made me get to places faster. Walking is sometimes just too slow.

My version of Gens supports upto 8 controllers, I think. I go into Options->Joypad, and toggle the "Controller connected:" field to be teamplayer instead of pad. It then behaves like a multitap. Although if your saying that this option does not work, that might be the case. As I have not acually tested this..

Honestly, if you have gotten into the game, you have seen it all. You walk from screen to screen, and fall into holes. Sometimes at the bottom of a hole there is a peice of a telephone, if it is there you pick it up. You then leave the whole by pushing the button to extend your neck, and then pushing it again to pull your body up to where your head is. You repeat this process until your out of the whole. You then continue to walk around falling down holes until you find the rest of the phone. When you get all the phone pieces you go to surface and call home. You are then picked up by a box and win the game. I beleive there are 3 pieces to the phone, so it's possible to win by only going down three holes. If I remember this can take as low as 10 seconds. By changing the difficulty switches you can toggle the presence of the police and your parents, which I beleive look the same. They appear randomly on some screens, and if they touch you, you lose. Falling down a hole, or leaving the screen makes them go away. That is the game of ET.

Great job! I thought you'd put the project on hiatus but I look in submissions yesterday and there it is, all finished. The only problem I have with the movie is that you don't kill as many enemies as you could. The one I was working on slices up all kinds of crap and looks great. Unfortunately, it's not as fast as yours (I assume most people here prefer pure speed, so I'd get voted down) and I don't know enough about some of the glitches, so I probably won't ever finish it.
Well, for a while I had more or less put it on hiatus, but the recent submission of this game done on the SNES got movitated again. Consiquently, I finished it all off over last weekend. Also, before i'm asked about why I didn't do it on snes: I do have a few reasons. Mostly being the sound/music is worse to me, and the graphics are really no better Infact in some cases they are ugly, such as the hitpoint bar. The reason I didn't kill all the enemies is because it tends to slow you down by a frame, and in my opinion the later levels are more impressive when your dodging enemies rather then plowing right through them. My reason behind this is enemies have a habit of coming out of nowhere and knocking you down a pit if your playing it real time. In my mind when I made the movie this was a win-win situation, but I guess some people might not see it as the case.

man or machine? the wobbling was perfect, how did you walk and wobble at the same time? you played at slowest speed, 2 frames holding RIGHt, 1 frame holding left, and so on? 20 times in a row? crazy! very well done, congrats, great movie!
That is exactly how I did it acually, I played with frame advance and did exactly what you said, but was it only 20 times? It seemed like much longer when I did it, heh. In addition quite a few of the rerecords were spent during the time after the bosses were killed because of doing this type of thing. It was easy to get into rythm of hitting right twice then left once, I often managed to screw things up, and had to redo a small portion of the wobbling. This is even more true in the case when i'm bouncing around and slashing after defeating the boss of act 2. I had to alternate down+b and the direction I wanted to move, and THEN before I hit the ground I had to stop doing this at the exact frame to hit the jump button so I would "bounce" and never acually touch the ground before jumping again. This is why I managed to keep the extremely slow jump speed of jumping backwards; jumping again before you hit the ground doens't let the sprite turn around. It was a mini-nightmate in itself heh. And finally about you people calling it a great movie, thank you! I spent quite a bit of time working on the small frame-by-frame details of this movie, and i'm glad it paid off!

I didn't hate ET THAT much, although I only played it like twice. I also didn't pay for it, which might have something to do with it...

Yes, but that is even more of a reason to post a response why you voted no, and I believe in that case you did. The issue is not that people voted no, it is no reason was given. Improvement cannot be made if faults are not recognized.

Hell, I could HELP if this gets done, as I have the bandwidth for it. Although I don't have that much free time to be doing this, so I wouldn't want to be the only one doing it.

Well the positive comments in this thread acually convinced me to use Gens (which is quite rare) to watch this movie, and I must say it was well worth it. This movie was very well done. I love the level that the "two players" work together so smoothly to get things done. It may be a long watch, but it was worth it. I'm voting yes. Also about the no vote, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most videos now adays get a random no vote for no specified reason. Mine also has one, and i'm frankly surprised the new Super Metroid doesn't have one yet.

yeah since you have to buy keys anyway that makes sense, and with the right manipulation to get criticals, goldmen aren't so bad
Well, he only has enough herbs as it is to make it through the barriers at the end, adding the goldman would probably make it require too many. Plus, he might need two trips for the keys (as you can only carry so many), so it might not be saving any time.

Well considering you need plasma you need to kill atleast the water boss. But you could TECHNICALLY skip all the other bosses. Although using the time/space beam isn't considered proper in console based runs, and imo shouldn't be in emulated runs. Plus doesn't the glitch required crash the console?

If I remember correctly there are some wings behind a bunch of doors in the bottom right of Rimuldar. If you fought an extra goldman wasn't a problem you could kill him and just buy keys with your extra money to unlock the doors blocking it.
