I still can't comprehend why everyone like's Zeupar's screenshot:
  • It's not unique to the run.
  • It's post game play.
  • It has nothing to do with the glitch that created this massive improvement.
I believe my screenshot fits with the publisher guidelines much better than Zeupar's. FractalFusion's is nice, but I didn't even notice the Ash thing until I looked at it for a while. By the way, I'm sorry to report this, but there are some problems with the downloadable encode and the 512kb. For the DE, I encoded it in 7:6 instead of 1:1, and for the 512kb, I encoded with handheld = false, removing aspect correction. The former should be fixable with a mere MP4Box call (Which for some reason never works for me), but the 512kb will take more. That said, one could just fix the DE and have archive.org derive a 512kb from it. Can anyone give this a shot? Grunt? Edit: Replaced, re-deriving. Thanks, Ilari!

Putting this at the very top of my encoding queue! Edit: Apparently, this was already completely encoded, and no one cared to tell me after I mentioned that I had started it on multiple occasions. Fun.

I think I might encode this after DKC2 finishes.

Well, I'm going to try encoding with the technique regardless. Nothing really to lose.
There will be a bit of blurring though; maybe encode a few minutes of
AVISource(...)
StackHorizontal(ChangeFPS(FrameRate / 2), TASBlend)
... and preview the result?
Preview? That's for smart people. Nope, I'm going to let this encode finish and hope it all came out great. ETA: 27 hours. Edit: Downloadable Encode / 512kb are both done, but too big to upload to MediaFire. Will be added to an archive upon acceptance.

Dude, this is so cool I don't even. Can this technique be generalized to different SNES games? Different emulators? I'd love to see this for more runs.

Knitting in general can be interesting. A history professor of mine suggested that, if I want to become a best-selling author, I should write "Knitting in Nazi Germany." He's probably right, too.

Er, why is the movie file 46 megs unpacked?
I honestly had no idea. I was surprised the movie size kept getting bigger and bigger..
I'm going to guess it had something to do with tas-movie-editor. I've had issues with that program that have resulted in huge files.

I think I'll produce the official encodes for this. As TASBlend is still slightly controversial, do people think I should use it for this run? Primarily, does it have any flicker? Is the flicker excessive?
When one character dies, the other character starts flickering (2 frames on, 2 frames off) and takes over. Apart from that it doesn't have much flicker (iirc).
Are there any instances of 30hz flicker (1 frame on, 1 frame off)?

The recent Super Mario All-Stars Lost Levels submission got me thinking as to how [movie 598]the[/movie] [movie 1035]All[/movie]-[movie 1134]Stars[/movie] [movie 1820]runs[/movie] currently published should be named. I am thinking the game name should simply be Super Mario All-Stars, and the branch should be set to the game and any incidentals (e.g. [movie 1035]"SMB3 glitchfest"[/movie] and [movie 1820]"Lost Levels" or perhaps "Lost Levels warpless"[/movie]). Thoughts?
I agree. I also think that Movie #1826M should be branched in a similar manner.

I found a wierd warping glitch in All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1598595268/annsmb-wierdwarp1-2-TMWF.fm2
That's a cool glitch, but it doesn't seem like it'll help you speed up the run at all. You should continue looking for them, though, as if you can find one that yields a faster completion time than the regular SMB run, it'd probably be worth publishing. :)

If my adviser at my new college seriously thinks I need to take CS 101 for my first semester, I think it's safe to say the workload there will be light enough to participate in this contest. I still can't commit, but it's looking much more likely than before.

What about a Luigi version run of SNES Lost Levels? I figure it'd be as useful as the original Luigi version.

I'm doing a NES version right now.
Nice. Good luck beating Phil! That would be an epic first publication.
No, I met warpless, I'm at 4-4.
Oh. That could be cool too. Have you found any situations in which Luigi's increased jump height pays off? Edit: Wait, you're doing warpless for NES SMBJ2? That will be rejected...we use the SNES version because it allows you to go to the bonus levels quicker.
Aw... I hate the SNES emulator, I can't do it all over again, that means I just wasted my time!
Sadly, you did. Also, please, learn how to use the edit button.

If gia has stated repeatedly that he didn't want to submit this, and that he doesn't care about holding the record, then he shouldn't care about you doing this. It's his fault that your name is on this and not his, and you figured out the input necessary to create this run independently. Yes vote.
