Welcome to the site! The first thing I'd suggest is posting in the appropriate forum for the console you are TASing on. Let me report this to a mod to be moved... Edit: Correction: the mods have ruled that this should stay in The Newbie Corner. My bad.

OK, so I just finished watching this. How is this 10 second thing even an issue when FODA's Battletoads 2p warpless does the same exact thing and benefits from it? Sure, don't keep recording if your input doesn't change the output, but why stand around and do nothing when you could be entertaining the audience? If you really feel this way, try to obsolete the previously mentioned FODA run without all the fun antics at the end. Let's see how fast the judges render a "rejected" decision on that. That said, there might be some actual tradeoffs here. For example, in the second to last boss battle, why did you throw the toad when he could have been used to kill the boss faster? That might have been able to save some actual time. I'm sure there are other examples like this. Could you explain this? Still, I believe that the only reasons to reject a run is if the goal is bad, the run doesn't improve on a previous run, or it could be done by a human player. This run has none of these issues, which is enough for me, completely ignoring the fact that this is an incredibly well executed and entertaining run. You have created a testament to how many glitches were removed in the SNES version of this game. You broke this thing. All the while, you tried to entertain the audience and succeeded. Yes. P.S. I wish I took up your offer to potentially co-author this thing, but I probably would have gotten in your way. :\

I will be uploading feos' HD. Also, MisterEpic, did you have your eye on this for publication? As you did some encoding, you can take it if you'd like, but otherwise, I'd like to. I haven't finished watching the run, but it seems to be good so far. I recommend feos try doing this on SNES so we can have a fast-paced no-tradeoff run and an entertaining slow paced one. There's no doubt you can beat White Gastra's record.

Nahoc: I just realized you did both of the encodes. Do you want to publish this? You're welcome to take it over, but please let me know.

Will use a screenshot from around 8:49. Will take and optimize later today. Will hopefully publish today or tomorrow. Edit: Hey, what's up with that flicker underneath the shadows of the final boss? Is that normal? Both of our versions and a third video I found on the web has that same flicker, but it logically makes no sense.

Link to video Please let me know what you think. Edit: Up to Level 35. From levels 31-33, I saved 28, 296, and 109 frames respectively. That concludes my work with Mysterypea's WIP. In addition, I added 2 other levels. I will attempt to do 5 levels a day until this is complete. So, if I stick to that schedule, I will be done by next Tuesday! Edit 2: Level 36. Can't imagine how to improve on this one, even if it uses a very small stall. Didn't manage to find the time to do 5 levels today, but tomorrow's my last final, so I should be working on this full force afterward. Edit 3: Level 37. Tried a few paths, and this seems to be the most optimal. Hopefully, my TAS priorities will fall into place soon, and I will have enough time to get 5 levels done a day like I said I would. Edit 4: Levels 38-45. Please, please give me some feedback before I make the 75% completion video. I must have slipped up somewhere, and I could really use some criticism for this. Edit 5: An improvement of 198 frames and 500 points. Dumping and uploading...

I'm thinking about trying this some time. Sonnikkustar also showed some interest. Is there really any reason to try something other than Genesis? I'm fairly certain the Genesis version is the most famous one.

The stream on the submission text doesn't seem to be HD, regardless of the 1080p included, and it surely doesn't have a logo or subs, so we need an encode. I'll take it.

We should now work on obsoleting every FCEU run, as FCEUX runs are much more likely to be console verifiable.

Well, for whatever reason, people seemed to have dropped my idea, so I'll leave it at this: if you are submitting a TAS, I recommend dumping the AVI, uploading it to YouTube, and including it in the submission text. If you don't know how to do that, or you don't have an uncapped account for your long TAS, please contact me and I will help you / upload to my channel. If you are an encoder, please, prioritize your encodes towards accepted runs, and if you want to provide a streaming link for a submission that is missing it, please just upload the dumped AVI. If everyone thinks this is bad to include in the encoder guidelines, then it doesn't have to be added, but I don't see where all the negativity is coming from.

Up to Level 20. From levels 16-20, I saved 50, 156, 161, 110, and 830 frames respectively. Edit: Update. I edited in many stylistic changes, initially improving my score by 2000 points. Then, I realized I could trim off 69 frames from Level 20, but it cost me 600 of my 2000 points. Obviously, I wasn't going to trade frames for points, so in summation, this update removes 69 frames while adding 1400 points. I hope you like all of the things I did with the gloves! Edit 2: Another 5 level update. From levels 21-25, I saved 244, 169, 496, 140, and 49 frames respectively from Mysterypea's version. Also, I added 100 points to Level 8. Edit 3: Level 26. I'm uploading this early because it's probably my favorite level so far, considering I managed to get some dancing in without losing time. Saved 371 frames from Mysterypea's version. Edit 4: Up to Level 30. From levels 27-30, I saved 4, 320, 128, and 34 frames respectively from Mysterypea's version. Some additional notes:
  • No, I will not be doing the bonus levels unless it results in a faster completion time. I severely doubt it will from what I can see. Please correct me if you have suggestions.
  • I seem to understand Daffy's mechanics more than I did previously. I will review my levels with him shortly.
  • As I learned from Level 28, it's not that you can't use gloves while moving leftward; you can't use gloves while pressing left. As such, there might be some stylistic improvements I can add now.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't find the optimal path for Level 30. I kind of rushed it, but I am happy to at least improve each level of Mysterypea's.
These past 5 levels were probably the most entertaining and interesting ones so far. I still think this is a worthwhile TAS, and I will do whatever I can to make this interesting enough so that the judges will agree with me. I'd appreciate some feedback at this stage, as after I look over all the items listed above, I'll be uploading another YouTube video. I hope you enjoy! Edit 5: Revised. Added 500 points, removed 7 frames, and edited in many more gloves. Uploading a YouTube stream...

Alright, I have to clear up a painful misconception on why we publish movies. Getting published isn't an 'earned privilege' due to hard work. In fact, lots of hard work has gone into publications that were not published. Published movies represent the subset of movies the audience finds most entertaining, and thus best help the site provide entertaining movies of superhuman play. All this talk of privilege and rights and earning and worth and etc sounds arrogant, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I apologize for my tone. All I'm trying to say is that publication has some benefits, and I think an HD encode should be one of them. Inevitably, I know that we have no means of controlling what an encoder does. All I'm saying is we should be encouraging encoders to meet our priorities, and from what I understand, we both agree the most important thing is that submissions have streams quickly, and that publications have HD, SD, and 512kb files. One way of fulfilling this goal is to encourage all users to upload dumps of runs in the submissions. This includes encoders as well, and I'm not sure why I was suggesting a different user group earlier. It is my understanding that most encoders care more about keeping the site running than the particular run they are encoding. Sure, I have favorites, but I'll encode games I've never played just to help out the site. So, assuming that the people who encode for submissions don't love every single run they are doing HD encodes for, I'm not sure why they'd be against this seemingly time saving idea.

Some authors upload dumps. Those are fine for deciding whether you want to vote for it or not. HD and SD encodes only become relevant when they are set for publication; in fact, I think we'd have less issues if author's uploaded their dumps and encoders only worked on the ones that are ready for publication. I mean, I literally see claims minutes after a movie's been submitted. That's just silly.
I'd agree if authors have their own dump prepared, there is no reason to rush to have an encode. However, an author with their own encode is a rarity, not the majority. Most authors can't do their own encodes. If a movie is encoded right away, that is a good thing.
OK, then here's an idea: how about we make it policy for encoders that they only work on published runs, and another class of user can just upload dumps? This isnt a buisness & encoding work isnt the focus of TASVideos at all. So trying to forcefully split people into seperate jobs to maintain this isnt going to do much in the main run since this might cause people to stop encoding in general.
I'm simply prioritizing. We'd have to have way more encoders than we currently have to create an HD / SD / 512kb of every submission. It's simply not a realistic goal. Uploading dumps for every submission is. I don't see how this would deter encoders from encoding; what do you mean?
