This new server is awesome. Even now that I'm on a DSL connection it's 20 times faster than the old one was on a high speed connection. No more 500 errors, and I haven't run into any bugs yet. Thanks to all involved.

This prompts me to bring up another point. Regardless of whether this run gets accepted or not, I think that it's shown that this category has potential. Can we finally support moving http://tasvideos.org/Brandon/MinimumButtons.html to http://tasvideos.org/MinimumButtons.html? I think these runs deserve an official home on TASVideos, regardless of whether any of the current runs have been published. There have been some talks about a separate section entirely with a separate queue and acceptance criteria, but I don't know how I feel about that. In any case, I like being able to see these records in one place and get links to their respective movie files / videos, regardless if these movies are actually entertaining. Only the ones with a potential to be accepted on entertainment grounds should actually be submitted to the main queue.

For me, the main problem is that it does not look sufficiently different from a normal speed run without the use of visual aids. If I were shown this video without knowing it was a minimum buttons pressed run and then asked what was unique about it, I wouldn't be able to tell you.
I disagree with the first point; I collect the mushroom in 1-2, I don't bounce on cannonballs and Bomb-Ombs in the autoscrollers, I don't at any point collect the Fire Flower, I wait around to jump off of Bullet Bills in 8-1, I take the sinking path in 8-2, I take damage in Bowser's Castle, and I have Bowser fall through the ground. When the improvement is done, I will have glitched through two additional walls in the level 8 sub-fortress. Those are quite significant differences. As for the second point, sure, you can't just see the movie and instantly know what it is. You also might not know that a run is a pacifist run without it being specified. That's hardly a reason to discount it.

In the description you say "This would be useful if I had to go up in the map again after finishing the level, but that never happens in the warpless run." what do you mean? There is no level above 1-1 no matter what run you make and this isn't a warpless run...
What I mean is that there'd have to be a level directly above the level you entered in order to save a press by holding up throughout the level. Once I complete the first level, I could just let go of all other directional buttons, and Mario would move upward to the next level. This would also be useful for any case in which I would have to continue going up on the path. Sadly, this is never the case in this warped run...oh, I meant to say warped.

But I don't even know what Minimum Buttons Inputted would mean. Is it +1 for every button that is considered pushed in for every frame that it is pushed in? If so, I think a name like "Minimum Button Hold Time" conveys that idea better. Kinda a mouthful, though.
That's what it means, yes. I think inputted is more clear because you're inputting a button for every frame you hold it. Hold time could be ambiguous in that it might mean "shortest hold time" as well...so although I guess "Minimum Total Button Hold Time" might be a fairly descriptive name, I think Minimum Buttons Inputted is descriptive and concise enough to get by with, and it's certainly easier to figure out than "Minimum Holds".

Honestly, i probably would have voted meh regardless of the improvements. When i first watched it i was intending to not vote at all, but i was still leaning a little closer to meh than yes. When i saw there were already known improvements, it just made it an easier decision. I can't say for sure i would not have voted yes if not for the known improvements, but i don't think i would have.

This is wayyyyy better than smb. I'm still not sure it's worth publishing though. I may have been able to justify a yes vote if i knew it was optimal, but 2 improvements have already been found, and i'm sure there will be more. I am going to vote meh.
Argh, no, Tompa looked through it all and said that's all he could found. Those were totally obscure glitchy optimizations that were near impossible to guess. I already said I would fix these problems before it actually gets published...
Oh, so you're 100% sure there aren't any more improvements?
No, but you're implying that I didn't test everything meticulously. These were in no way obvious improvements. These improvements being found immediately after submission was not an issue of me overlooking something obvious to Tompa, but him figuring them out at a really bad time (He's known about the run for a few weeks now). I just wanted to defend that.
Again, if this run gets accepted, I'm going to re-run it no matter what. I just want to know if this run, in a vacuum, is acceptable. Unless Tompa's improvements are enough to change your vote from a no/meh to a yes without us knowing about the, I'd ask that you vote yes to approve of this kind of run being published, whereas with SMB1, it seemed that the branch was unwanted regardless of the improvements.

Can't most of the levels be done without the B button? I guess the B button has to save the use of just 1 jump to be worth it but I'm not sure if it always does even that.
If you find such a level, please point it out. I'm pretty sure that B saves at least 1 press in every level.

Much to my horror surprise, Tompa found twoimprovements to World 8's sub-fortress that would result in 2 presses saved. I would request that you all will judge this run regardless of the improvements. What I need to know is whether or not this run is even publishable. Based on how the community reacts, I am more than willing to resubmit or replace the submission file before publication if accepted. In fact, I'm very open to a partnership with Tompa, as I'm sure he can help me find more presses and could definitely help me with the time factor.

Although I've skimmed most of this, I have yet to see it all in full. I hope to find some time to do so...from what I've seen, this is both the best playaround and glitchy run ever.

It seems there still isn't a consensus. This frustrates me. I thought "minimum buttons recorded" was perfect, but that really describes the storage mechanism and not the action being taken. I then thought about using "minimum buttons polled", but then what of subframes? Lag frames? I'm not sure I know the terminology well enough to come up with a good name. Help!
Edit: OK, it's settled: "minimum buttons pressed", "minimum buttons inputted". This is descriptive enough. I'm done thinking about this. Also, DarkKobold mentions that there's apparently been 3 fraudulent yes votes on this submission. I want to make it clear that I had nothing to do with this. I didn't even vote on it. Whoever did in fact do this should know that this does not in any way help the submission. Don't do this again.

There's something very wrong going on by you. YouTube isn't even acknowledging any of the data you supposedly sent them.
So far, no one else seems to be experiencing anything remotely along these lines. I wish I knew what makes your setup different.
My connection is totally FUBAR. I'm pretty sure I get throttled for uploading a certain amount at a time. This is why I wanted to use FTP because it would typically restart instead of die the second there's a disconnect.

I haven't done that much research personally, but my debate coach once ranted about how psychoanalysis and the Oedipus complex is bad because it implies there's one narrative for everything. This is usually not true. Case and point, Little Hans.
