I agree with scrimpeh. It's actiony, but it might get bit boring after 10 minutes, if there's no variation to the levels and/or gameplay. Is killing enemies a lot faster, or could you do a level with minimalistic action, moving and shooting as little as possible? I would vote yes if this was on the workbench.

Will this mean in future, we can playback the input on a console, capure it on DVD and then publish the .avi on the site?
It is possible right now, as SMB TAS is playable on the NES, but I don't see the point.

With the old Xbox 360's, they kinda tried to force you to buy the official HDMI-cable thingy, so that you could fit the HDMI cable and the A/V cable in the console at the same time, but lots of people just cut the A/V adapter in pieces so that they could fit both. So, do that and you should do fine.

Yeah, I also think that luck manipulation covers that.

I usually play around with the game if I'm not familiar with it, but not that much and not always. For example, I didn't play M.C. Kids at all before TASing it, but I did play it a bit after TASing it and then reTASed it. Playing it didn't really help the TASing at all though. Then I've TASed games that I've played a lot, like Duck Tales games, The Flintstones and Little Nemo.

Okay, all these Zelda game nominations and all such are pretty much pointless. Big Rigs is a game you basically can't play, when almost every other game in this thread can be completed normally without any problems. So I see no point in calling them "the most broken game".

Did you know in that game the friendly fire is on, If you play multiplayer with an opponent, you can actually kill them, as well as other EDF members. its fun to kill alll of them, then go in a s the two lone survivors.
Yes I did. Me and my friend used to grind level 43 (Extermination 2, I think it's called) on Inferno to get all the weapons (that is the first one with the Lysander Z drop IIRC) and the AI guys used to be on our way all the time, so when we shot our rocket launchers, they would hit them and we would be dead from the explosions, or we would be flying for a while letting the spiders get in too close. So we just kill the allies with assault rifles.

Shadow Complex is an excellent XBLA game, and an excellent game period.
Shadow Complex doesn't utilize any other Xbox Live features than the leaderboards. I think you meant to say that it's an excellent XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) game, right?
...because of the exciting and innovative cover-based FPS action.
Gears of War isn't really a First Person Shooter ;P Also, I disagree with the exciting part. The enemies just take too much lead before they die, so it's not very exciting to sit there in the cover and wait for them to pop their heads out. It's a great co-op game though, but not worth the "BEST GAME EVER!!!" reviews in my opinion. EDIT: Oh and Gears of Wars' graphics suck, unless you like Unreal Engine slimyness and grey and brown.

Does EDF 2017 have an actual storyline, or is it just a melee-type game, where you just kill enemies and more enemies, without actually advancing any kind of plot and progress in the story?
There is a story that is told over the radio by your commander and some other people using the radio. It's your basic "The aliens are coming, shoot them!" plot and due to the bad voice acting and all the other stuff, the radio communications are kinda funny. You don't need to really care about the plot though, you just go around shooting bugs and giant robots with your awesome rocket launcher, but it is there.

Did you get EDF 2017? It's pretty cheap
I have to admit that I got a bit discouraged by the reviews, so it didn't get very high in my priority list, compared to many other games. "Reviewers pointed out the game suffered from relatively poor graphics, a lack of many standard features and characteristically poor voice acting (a typical vice for cost-effective English translations of Japanese games)." "Earth Defense Force 2017 holds a Game Rankings score of 70.67%." Not that it's impossible for me to disagree with the average review (in fact, that's not even extremely rare), but often they are rightish...
All of these generally negative reviews don't take in the camp or fun factor at all. The graphics are okay, they do the what they were designed to do. Also, I don't see how this game needs any more features. You've got your choice of two guns (initially you start with an assault rifle and a rocket launcher) and just shoot the hell out of the enemies. That's basically all there is to the game, but it's just so much fun, escpecially when there are weapon drops, so you get new weapons all the time! Also, the poor voice acting makes the game even more fun, as it is hilarious. Just listen to some of it on Youtube and try not to laugh.

Did you get EDF 2017? It's pretty cheap and if you have a friend to play it with, it's so much fun. There's nothing like shooting giant alien ants and spiders and robots with ridiculous weaponry and big explosions. It's all arcade and it's all so so much fun. Everything is fun about this game and I really urge everyone to try it.

I hate to nitpick, but would you please remove that "third wip up" part from the topic header? The game name is sufficent and people are informed about new posts by the forum software, so people who are interested can check just easily check the thread for your progress. If someone wants to use this thread in the future, it would still have that "run status is x" there, which would then be confusing. Sure I could edit it myself, but then you wouldn't be able to edit the first post.

Okay, I've been waiting for a run of this game for a while now, because I remember playing this as a kid and it's a fun game to play. But to be honest, the floating glitch kinda killed all the entertainment for me. There's hardly any actual gameplay, just floating over gaps. And there's barely any interaction with the game world, which makes the run even more repetitive, since there's barely any other differences between the levels other than the graphics. Sure it's faster but... Meh. I think a 100% run would be more entertaining, but who knows with this floating glitch. I still think that this should be published since it's the fastest completion of a somewhat popular game, but I just can't vote yes. I'll give it a strongish meh. EDIT: Oh yeah, the run is obviously very well done, so good job there RingRush.

Perhaps you could explain what you mean by "ability cooldown" and what makes it so special.
When you use a special ability, it takes a while for you to be able to use it again. That way you can't be constantly casting Hadouken in Street Fig... Hey wait a minute!

It's the same ROM choice as the published run (which he copied the first half of his submission text from), so you can't really blame him on that.
Oh, okay. Then it's okay I guess.

So the Japanese version is basically an easy mode of the US version, because you can take damage? Are there any other differences between the ROM versions? If not, this looks like a bad ROM choice to me. The other improvements sounded nice though, so I'm going give this a watch when I get home.

This was very boring to me. Although it was short, I started skipping towards the end after 9 floors and those battles were repetitive and boring as well. Voting no.

No bonus :( Anyways, voted yes as this was clearly well done and very entertaining. By the way, I bet that kids didn't want to eat their vegetables because of this games, since it clearly shows that they hurt a lot.
