When I coded the fake tuner I discussed it with Trog and we both arrived at the conclusion that it wouldn't stand a chance to get a pass here. So the TAS was started on the assumption that only RTA time would matter and everything before file start doesn't need to be optimal. I just talked to him again though and the only thing he did was to spell his name out, so 20 frames wasted or so seems fine. I'm quite pleasantly surprised actually that people want to see this Movie featured even if it might stretch the rules a bit. Some common assumptions about this site today are sadly quite untrue as it turns out. Most people I know including myself thought there wouldn't really be any exceptions made and that a movie has to sync for everyone etc. I have no problem with strict rules, but it's good to see special cases are being recognized.
Yeah, Trog has said from time to time he doesn't mind whether it be featured on the site, or not featured on the site. I mean, we've had Custom Lua builds of Dolphin used by myself, Abahbob and a few others maybe. And IIRC no one really minded if we used them (from what I saw anyway). This was back when I started TASing and was extremely interested in TWW and all the TASing stuff so times could've changed since I last logged on here, I dunno. Either way, Trog's happy with it and I assume most of his viewers from his streams are happy with it from seeing the amount of effort and optimization he's put into it. And I'm sure Based dragonbane is extremely happy with everything he's done to help out. Keepo b love ya db <3

I am glad to see there is still some good left in the world. People may be harsh, but there's always the other people that help each other out. It makes me more than happy to see that, it really does. I plan on becoming a DJ one day(hopefully it isn't a phase, but I'll try), because one of the things I love most is music. Music can help calm the mood, and I find it one of the best ways to inspire people as well. I guess I've lost my touch on the outside world, but I won't let that get the better of me anymore. I've got to try things, instead of avoiding them. Guess I am not as closed off as I thought I was.

Just a little warning before I post my story: I sometimes anger people without knowing at all. And I am a very closed off person, so I won't be covering some stuff. Now that's over and done with, let's go.. I was 5 years old when it all started happening, the bullying at school got the better of me and nonetheless, I started to develop trauma.. like some kids at that age I immediately didn't do anything about it. When I was 7 years old I met my first step father my mother decided to 'go' with.. He was nice at first, but then started abusing his power, and many things happened. Some being not letting my mother eat food, she protected my step brother and sister by letting us eat our dinner, lunch, breakfast. You get the idea.. Next thing you know, he turned on us.. the kids. I don't want to get too much into detail, but I'll just say this: he always abused us, he would get so angry at times and kick our arses, child abuse.. is when all my problems started to kick in.. I eventually became diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia and Asperger syndrome. It all went downhill from there. Next up is the high school days, and boy do I "love" talking about this.. I eventually started getting bullied again, and again didn't do anything about it. But when I stopped it from happening, I stopped going to school and became home schooled. That was the time I started living with my grandmother and eventually was in the worst state. By worst state, I mean not attempting to go outside, not communicating with anyone for around 6 years. 6 years of sorrow and not going to school and having all these problems just was the worst.. So, I got a councilor and now I am much better than what I am now. But some problems like anxiety are still there. I panic when I post stuff on forums, talk to people I don't know, and mixing that with my general shy side is a pain. But I can overcome that when I feel confident enough to do things like that. I also am the type of person that beats them self up. Not physically, but with words. I feel stupid at times and I don't let myself get away with it, and instead it results in me beating myself up.. if there's one thing I cannot stand at times, it is my own self. -- I would like to thank the first and other posts for giving me confidence in saying this as a closed off person. But hey, I guess I am not as closed off as I think I am, who knows.. I am a strange person. But one thing's for sure we can all agree on, trauma can hurt, words can hurt. Nowadays I just end up making projects like TASes and other stuff, because I enjoy that. And I just don't often make posts because of how nervous I get.. And let me assure you, it isn't anything about you all, it's just me and how I am. Shyness and anxiety are not pleasant to have in my opinion. Sorry if this is a cluster of a post, I tried sorting it out as best as I could. But again, thank you wonderful people for giving me some confidence in posting this.

Woo! GBA Link is getting fixed up, great news! But it looks like I gotta restart. :( Either way, this is very good news! Abahbob, you willing to team up with me and finally finish this? I also compiled a version of the Lua build with one of the most recent revisions and with those new patches, PM me later if you need it. :)

Yo, I am up to the part in the route where Chill with Zephos is needed. Can't get it right though, does anyone have any clue of how to pull it off consistently? Also, if GBA Link / Tuner can be TASed later on in the future, I'll be interested in actually restarting too(millionth time, but meh).

Time lost because of more accurate emulation is not accounted for during judging. You should use the more accurate version.
I am already using a very recent version of Dolphin. :P I also figured out my problem, I was traveling through islands too quick using the angled superswims, cheers for the help again guys. (Sorry if I screwed up my English, I've been up all night compiling.. x_x)

It may have something to do with the fact that recently Dolphin started emulating load times correctly, they more accurately represent load times on the actual console. Previously everything loaded really fast. This may contribute to your problems where things had worked before.
I was thinking the EXACT same thing earlier, it may be the case..

Try to slow you a bit :P ?

If you are slower the ocean should have time to load.
Perhaps these too.. What I was seeing on Abahbob's version, is he had a speed of over 2000+. And it loaded pretty quickly. Too be fair, I WAS out in the middle of the ocean, with the more optimized superswim. I'll look into this very soon, I'll test Dolphin versions, all that stuff. And thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.

I'm having a little bit of trouble, I'm superswimming to DRI(because I restarted and fixed a lot of errors, not to mention a new Dolphin revision) and it seems whenever I superswim to DRI, the island load causes me to fall underwater? Anyone know any fix I can do to prevent this? The Float big endian value / speed value = 1957. I'm sure it's the Island load, but I cannot be too sure..

Also did you get lua scripts for super swims to work by now? It doesn't seem feasible to do good ones by hand for the entire game.
I nearly compiled a version of Dolphin. It needs some errors to be fixed though.

Considering Tingle Tuner support is well on its way, will you wait until the emulator can support it fully? Or will you try to complete a TAS without the Tingle Tuner first?
I think I'll get comfortable with TASing on this emulator, before actually restarting to use the Tingle Tuner supported version.

With the tingle tuner and superswims, do you think that a full TAS of the Wind Waker could be under 3 hours?
I dunno, I don't do the routing, I'll help with the routing with the Tuner TAS though.

I looked on the Google code issue page, from what I understand, if you use savestates, it doesn't do it, but when you're not using savestates, the game gets stuck in an infinite loop. So it shouldn't be any problem for TASing. I also remember that I loaded up some old 2-3 month DTM files, it doesn't do any save infinite loop. So we should be fine to continue. Also, uploading another WIP tonight, Woo! -- EDIT: Here you all go: Link to video I have a feeling it might be a bit slower than Abahbob's, the FoF swordless part anyway. And yes I picked up a rupee, but that's going to be resolved soon enough.

I don't know how much interest there is in using the japanese version of Wind Waker for TASing (or if it was used previously) but there is a game breaking glitch with saving in Dolphin There's a pull request with mostly guessed data/timings on memory card saving that makes memory card writes much more accurate to console. It fixes the hang when saving in Wind Waker (J) which should make it viable for TASing if its preferred. Pull Request: https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/581 Buildbot build: https://dl.dolphin-emu.org/prs/pr-581-dolphin-latest-x64.7z
DAMN, right when I finished the FoF cutscene skip and getting to the 1000 rupee wallet! x_x I don't feel like restarting after a few thousand rerecords. Maybe it won't affect my movie? On the other hand, it's good to see more timing accuracy is being brought to Dolphin!

A friend of mine has been helping me with LUA scripts, but apparently, here, he can't help me. If anyone has some time to waste on compiling Dolphin with the ability to use (LUA ?) scripts to execute inputs (like Abahbob's had), I'd be grateful forever T__T.
Shouldn't standard dolphin be able to do that? If not you could ask RachelB about a version that can. I think he/she is the one who made that in the first place.
It will also need the modified Lua files provided by Abah, and as I've been told, it needs to run in debug mode on Visual Studio(2010?). And not only that, it needs to have the TAS Input window open at all times. What I usually do to get Lua working is: 1. Open up the game. 2. Open up the TAS Input. 3. Open up the Lua window. 4. Go to a savestate where the superswim is needed(Be sure NOT to press the frame advance button / key, or it won't work). 5. Run the Lua script you or Abahbob made. If it crashes, it means you done something wrong. It's a really hacky process, but once it's all done, you have SOMETHING that works.

So, I've restarted my run, I'm doing the Japanese version. Yeah, surprisingly it didn't burn me out(that much..). I've improved the superswim, I'll upload the whole WIP video tonight / tomorrow. I won't do any comparison, because the superswims are one of those things that burn the living crap out of you. Also nice job drizor on the WIP as well, Glad to see more people are joining in! -- Here you all go, have a WIP: Link to video

People, it's all good. I am getting a Japanese version! I don't want to cause an argument or anything.. If it's really the J version people want, I'll get it lol. Honestly, I don't mind redoing a TAS! I've only done.. what like 500+ rerecords? That's really no problem for me haha.

Like I said, many things are going to be fixed. And I'll need to re plan the route too. Just remember, still a nub and hopefully will learn some things on the way. The route will most likely change when the Tuner support for Dolphin comes out, Abahbob made a route on his twitter using the tuner, I'll probably grab that later.

I didn't feel like using the J version, because I didn't want to have to buy and then dump the whole file. I remember buying a U(not the Wii U) version years ago when Wii hacks were first made and made codes using a USB Gecko. But that's all in the past. And I prefer English text anyway, I personally think that if I used Japanese text, no one would be able to read it(other than our Japanese folks of course). I can always buy a Japanese copy, But that's gonna take days! I know we can probably remember text, but what's the fun in that? :P

Bump, made my first WIP. Quality looks gross, but I think it's hard to upload a 6gb+ file.. >_> Link to video Also the dry storage spot I did was in a slower spot, I then realized that I needed to use the more optimized spot, I'll do that all later, but for now.. enjoy? The superswim is a bit unoptimized, but I don't feel like doing all those frames again. One more thing I need to mention is, why the wind waker doesn't save onto Y button when I saved the game? It'd help a ton if someone could help me with that. I'll probably ask Abahbob later though. ANY feedback is appreciated, just not on the video quality haha. (I plan on fixing a lot of things, so bear with me here.. still a newbie too!)

It must be the way I am trying to "git pull".. I dunno though. I am still new to all the git stuff. I'll try and find the exact commit that fixes the graphical glitch, that will do for me. Got it working by downloading the source zip file. All is well now!

Fog, is there a way to update the base without it giving me 30-40+ "CONFLICT (add/add)" messages? Cause I am getting some graphical glitches in The Wind Waker, but they're fixed in the newer base. Also cheers for the 2gb split fix!
