Where, exactly, is the keyboard a problem? Here's my system: z for B button x for A button The arrow keys for the directions enter/return for start caps lock for select \ for frame advance With this system, I can always press whatever buttons I need on my keyboard.

Well, throw another on the pile for Cardboard. He made so many great runs, it felt like he had been around for much more than a year.

Here's a test run This is just some weird game I felt like TASing, thanks to the exceptionally weird physics related to the hat. Now, finally, I have a test run done that could be improved by a few seconds to a minute. Would this run be worthy of publication if I remade it to be faster, and had the autoscrollers more interesting?

I made a test run last summer, now I am finally uploading it. The ROM is Animorphs (U) [!]. Yay clicky! The reason this game is interesting is that unlike other RPGs, for example Pokemon, text doesn't scroll. It just appears. This means attack menus can be scrolled through at breakneck speed, meaning even long boss fights last just seconds. Also, this lends a degree of leniency to the idea of beating bosses with pathetically weak teams. As it says in the description, improveable by anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute. Much of this would come from better fighting (and more luck manipulation), but also from some overworld moving strategies like morphing in fights as opposed to in the menu.

When no matter how hard you try, SMB2j just doesn't fucking work. Edit for clarity: Whenever I try to record or replay a movie, I get error 22.

Here's a new WIP, a longer version of the last one I posted. It finishes the pier level. I'll let you do the next level.

L337, I watched your WIP, and I think it isn't as fast as it could be. Your rerecord count is around 200, while in my run it is over 9000. You should record everything in frame-advance mode (button \), and use all of your savestate slots. When recording a certain segment, test certain frames for holding or releasing buttons until they are as fast as possible. Also, when falling down a hole, it's good to have your guy accelerate from one side to another, again as close as possible. Don't feel bad. I put my first TAS on this site exactly a year before you, and I used advice like this to make it much better. Oh, and by the way, instead of starting your runs from a savestate, just add on to the end of my WIP. That way it's easier to look at and to add on to.

Sworldless Link discovered the 0-star win in SM64, which means HE wins in my book, straight up. Unfortunately, it appears the SM64 vote has been split 3 ways, so Mukki will probably win.

I'm surprised how few votes there are for SGB pokémon green - it warps to the end of the game, people!

Altered beast FTW. Also, the humour was enhanced in my mind by the fact that it didn't waste time.

I also voted for the quad run, for the amazing coordination of it. And, it was most innovative.

The sheer magnitude of the improvement for the 0-star run wins my vote. It's nearly a 10-minute improvement since the end of 2006.

I agree with Superjupi. That improvement was amazing.

Perhaps you don't understand the purpose of the site, Greg. PS2 TASes would never be single-segment, because they would require a lot of savestates in order to be optimal.

Here's an old run I made once. It covers, IIRC, 4 levels, and I believe it's optimal until the level it ends midway through. You have my permission to continue where this run ends and we could have this TAS published as a team run.

Starting from the same position after getting stars, just exiting the door from the Jolly Roger Bay and wall jumping upto the peach door, opening door and running and jumping into the window made me approx 3 seconds faster than the BLJ way.
Does that 3 second improvement include the long animation for opening star doors?

In this game, most text zooms past instantly, instead of going 1 character per frame. I think it's enough to negate the problems with having a 4-character name.

Well, it had too much waiting for turtles, and some parts still seemed unoptimal, but that bowser fight was amazing. That last boss fight alone makes up for the movie's other weaknesses and merits a yes vote.

I just watched the run, it was pretty amazing, but I have one question: Why's the name Mark?

Perhaps best boss-fighting? I'm not proposing anything yet, but I think it's a good category. Oh, BTW, I nominate the Pokémon Blue 1:18 run for luck-manipulation award.

I've sent him a message telling him to either put up disclaimers saying it's tool-assisted or to remove the video entirely. Many people seem to think the run was done by a real person.

Like the calculation start when you press Start and finish when you touch the star.
There are complicating factors, though. For example, after touching a star, Mario falls, which takes time. That's why they try to hit the bottom of stars, which can take more time. So, it should be from the start button to when Mario leaves the level.
