You may think that if you like. I'm not trying to convince, only inform. But I don't think likening an event that would have been invented 10 generations removed, but which concerned everyone who was told, compared to the Prometheus myth, which was set with the first human? Doesn't that seem like a stretch? "This happened 400 years ago to the ancestors of everyone present" seems like a much easier tale to prove a hoax (again, assuming the latest possible date it could have been invented) compared to "This happened untold millenia ago to the first human being"
So... Are you saying Adam and Eve, or more or less everyone before Noah, didn't exist?

You know you go to tasvideos too much when you delay your 900th post until you have a "worthy" comment. Post 901!

Yay RCR! When I saw this in the workbench I thought, "Someone obsoleted my run! Yay times 100" Then I noticed the time. "Yay times 10! All bosses stompfest!" Then I read the text "Regular yay, entertainment run" Knowing how damn frustrating it is to make a fast run, I was hoping for a speedrun rather than a funfest, but I will watch. EDIT: Post 900! EDIT AGAIN: Very well done. Paradoxically, I did not enjoy the boss fights as much as the rest of the movie. It was very impressive overall, and I liked the Simon fight more than the rest. I liked how you used my suicide trick, and how he seemed to hesitate to discover that.

Yeah, none of those are anything like what I was saying. I was talking about a single historical event in which an entire nation was addressed supernaturally, and the latest time afterwards at which the event could have been made up, if it were, was only 400 years after, still far too soon for a hoax of that magnitude to catch on (because there would be quite a lot of evidence against it were it false).
Quetzalcoatl came to Earth in a flaming chariot and spoke to a huge crowd. The gods of ancient Egypt came and spoke to EVERYONE in the area. Mass revelations happy. Either a lot of religions are equally right (which is mutually exclusive in many cases) or none of them are.

>> Do you consider this evidence for a revelation? No, I'm saying it shows that if one believed exactly in a religion, this would be evidence. >> I'm not aware of any religion that makes any similar claim The Aztecs believed that Quetzalcoatl had been on earth at a point in the past, and would return. They mistook the Spanish for his messengers, and were slaughtered. The ancient egyptians considered their pharaohs to be a god, frequently visited by other gods The Celts believed gods had once lived on earth The Mayan calendar begins when humans were seperated from the gods on Earth

I found something interesting. A site that rates websites (as in, PG, G, PG-13, etc). Parts of tasvideos.org are rated R. Particularly the discussion on the Altered Beast TAS which was so controversial a while ago, rated R for repeated uses of the words sex and porn.

Most religions are founded on what could very easily be hoaxes - one or two or even eight or so guys who claim some supernatural event, and they tell people who tell people and then there's a religion. But none of the peole who believe can confirm what the original guys at the top said, they can only believe it. But this is explicitly not true for the God of the Jews. According to Judaism - and Christianity and Islam - God spoke to an assembled mass of 600,000+ people all at once at Sinai. The entire nation heard him. Judaism isn't founded on "Well, Bob talked to God, so I guess we should do what he says", it's founded on "Hey grandma, you were there, what was it like?". Anyone attempting to create such an event as a hoax even postdated 400 years would run into a lot of people saying "I never heard about any of this,a nd if it happened as you say we should have lots of stories about it passed from generation to generation and we'd be able to get independent confirmation" - and that's not what happened. Instead, the independent confirmation and the stories were present when the text was recorded. So, there's a historical proof. The Sinai event occured. Whether the being who spoke to the nation was who he said he was, you can argue, but whether he spoke? not so much.
What about the similar revelations that occurred in Ancient Egypt, Mexico, India? The egyptians actually had 87 different revelations, 1 a generation for 87 generations. By your logic, you should worship Ra, not the Christian God. Some events mentioned in the Mahabharata (Indian epic) have been confirmed by physical evidence. A crater was found in an area that mentioned a massive explosion as divine intervention, for example.

What bothers me is that when people who strongly oppose religion are presented with the ethical question of why they are being so rude and insulting and why they don't respect other people
To be completely honest, I view this as a similar situation to if someone continually denied the fact that gravity exists. I consider people who stubbornly maintain belief in deities severely unscientific at best.

I think it's generally implied that God is sentient.

how did wolves transform into so many different dogs? what has crossbreeding have to do with evolution?
This is perhaps a bad example. The evolution of wolves was largely guided by the hand of man. The tamer wolves were domesticated and cared for, which gave them a solid chance of survival. They gradually got very time. Sometimes people would breed dogs for large or small size, short or long hair, until they reached such speciation as with Great Danes and chihuahuas.
Evolution is supposed to happen over a time of millions of years, so how could it be proven?
Various fossils have been found, of prechelonians, premammalians, preornithids, fish with legs, etc.
Nothing created God. God has always existed.
Why not take away the middleman and say the Universe has always existed?

How, then, do you explain the Crusades
What the heck does that have to do with what I asked?
I'm saying that Christians are often just as, or more, intolerant of other people's beliefs.

Couldn't you start flying at the start of Bowser Star World if you used the slow flying trick in Backdoor star world to kill the piranha plants?

How, then, do you explain the Crusades, the whole "Eternal hellfire" deal, all the fact that the first 4 commandments are entirely religious and have no bearing whatsoever on moral issues? I note that murder is considered less of a sin (if the commandments are in order of importance) than being Hindu, owning a statue of a "pagan" God (I have a sculpture of Athena in my kitchen, which dooms me to eternal hell), or even saying "Oh my God". Or even working on Sunday. If typing is considered work, you're all fucked because it's a sin.

Dromiceuis has effectively said it all. I have often half-jokingly conducted tests as to the existence of God. If God smites people so readily, one could do something to anger Him and see if one gets hit by a meteor, turned into salt, or zapped by lightning. For example, yesterday I moved a bible into the fiction section at a bookstore. Such an overt display would greatly anger God, if he existed, but there's been no lightning yet. Another, more basic test, involves praying for God to set a bush on fire without any true chemical reaction occuring, as mentioned somewhere or other in the bible. Nothing. It's been over a month since that test, and still nothing has happened.

I suppose Rowling is thinking that no one can touch her now, as over 90% of the all-time sales will have passed.

My favourite level from any video game is Devil's Island, from Impossible Creatures. It's one of the few levels in any RTS I've played that has a totally asymmetrical map yet has good balance. It's also very beautiful. If I had to pick a place to live, I'd choose one of those levels made of chocolate in Super Mario World.

Is it possible to make a link on tasvideos that simply links to all of a player's movies? Something like http://tasvideos.org/movies.cgi?player=Chamale or something.
