The cost of Metronome is the "M used Metronome" thing and then lag as the game figures out which move to use. And more delay to luck-manipulate, because the odds of a full damage critical metronome of the right attack are something like 50,000 to 1.

Umm, that video was of Caterpie and stuff. I've done testing, and found that Mew can ride Cut through (almost) everything. If there's trouble, Bubblebeam should do the trick. Overwriting a move with Metronome is a very bad idea. Keep in mind that it takes a long while to overwrite a move. Plus, you would have to get the TM in Cinnabar. Because Mew goes from level 1 to 100, it won't learn anything new at all.

inability to back up bold claims
Here is what annoys me about Chalame and Rridgway the most. You're both just looking for attention, and in the "last 3-ish months", more people have realized it and stopped catering to this. If you want to be taken seriously, stop talking and start doing.
I'm not so much unable to back up bold claims as not able to focus on making one run... But Rridgway, he's unable to back up claims. He's been abducted by aliens 5 times in the past year, but unfortunately no one noticed he was gone any of the times :P EDIT: Post 500

I consider a mini game to be a "level" in a way. I mean, the 16 star Mario 64 run is called "16 star", not "14 star, 1 Toad freebie and 1 Bowser red coin" mario 64 run, right? A minigame completed amazingly fast is very entertaining, and doesn't slow down a run much.

Question: What's the moves plan for Mew? Back when I attempted a single-segment run of Pokémon Red, using level 100 Mew, I got screwed in the Pokémon Tower in Lavender. Mew can club things with its tail* up until it gets CUT. Cut should be moved to the first slot because of the shorter name and it's 50% stronger (roughly). Also, it's 95% accurate, as compared to POUND with 99.5% accuracy, making misses for the sake of poison that much easier. * I always envisioned Mew as using Pound with his tail instead of his hands. There are no ghosts at all in this run thanks to Snorlax Skip, until the elite four. So what move will be taught to Mew? Certainly, one possibility is Fly against the ghosts, as it knows it already. However, Fly sucks against rock-types. But are there better options? Keep in mind that Fly is a two-turn attack, and there are 3 ghosts, which adds up. So let's look at all the TMs that you get automatically (barring item-stuffing). BIDE 4 characters. 3-turn attack. No. BUBBLEBEAM 10 characters. I have a few doubts as to whether this can 1HKO a level 60 Gengar without critical hits. However, it does still allow the possibility of item-stuffing. Also, I like its performance against rock-types. DIG 3 characters. Agatha's smart - if you use Dig, she switches to the immune Golbat. Anyway, it's 2-turn, like Fly. Bad choice. THUNDERBOLT 11 characters. Can't kill Rocks. GIGA DRAIN 10 characters. Weak, not very effective, automatic message, X(. TOXIC 5 characters. Doesn't do damage. PSYWAVE 7 characters. Does random damage from 1-150. A level 50 haunter has an average of 151 health, and Agatha's are higher-level. FIRE BLAST 10 characters. Attack designed for heavy thumpings. So strong it can take out Rock-types without crits (Though it's so low on PP it won't beat every rock type in the Elite Four). My favourite choice is BUBBLEBEAM, because despite the low power it can take out all the rock-types you'll see. Plus, it's so early in the game you can still item-stuff.

Well, keep in mind that if you make a run with a weird objective that tickles the fancy of people around here, send it in on April Fool's Day (April 1 in case you didn't know). Some other runs have been published, such as The speedwalk.

Wow. Just what I needed. When was it I was saying that I needed a decent RAM searcher for RCR if my run would get done? Yesterday? No, earlier today. This is great. Simon is about to meet HIS worst nightmare. Question: Is ROM coding for NES, when translated into something resembling English written in a format like: If "Goomba"(X,Y) == "Mario"(X,Y) AND "Mario" yspeed =>0 Then GOTO "Mariodead" Or is it some weird thing I have no chance of figuring out?

Well, it is an interesting thought... Suppose some guy knows a bug in SMB to accelerate Mario to double speed. Now, his favourite level in SMB3 is 1-4, for example. He looks around for a published run that beats it. If he finds it, he'll register and post, and eventually make a comment in SMB along the lines of "You know this, right?" But if he DOESN'T find the video, maybe he won't register and we'll lose a great trick. Plus there's the sheer WTF value of doing everything in the game faster than most people can win with warps.

Do the "bunny-hop glitch", which involves jumping, then kicking just before impact. Kick a trashcan. I need to do some testing myself... EDIT: After a bit of testing, I've figured out the thing that bothers me most. Not knowing enemy stamina*. Can anyone more experience with memory search figure out what that figure is? *I think it's called stamina, it's the stat that recharges health when it is 0.

Hmm, thanks for the tips. But keep in mind that to do really massive damage with trash can comboes and the like, it is necessary to knock him down. However, due to the new nature of the trash can trick, it is hard to know how effective an attack it. Does anyone know the memory address for opponent HP?

Hmm... Unfortunately, it turns out my test had been inaccurate. See, I just did it at 100% speed, and it was hard to kick him down the pit. By the time I managed to do it, the kick killed him. I was wrong. Sorry. As redemption, check out this video of the Simon fight. It's 9 seconds faster than Vatchern's, and much more creative (No offense). Vatchern's run is basically 30 seconds of standing there and thudding him over the head with a trash can and chain. In this video, the longest stretch of that is exactly 2 seconds long. I won't say anything else, watch the movie!!

Yeah, really, what's happened in the last 3-ish months? I remember a time when everyone was once courteous and helpful, when I made a crap run it was "Good job but" not "Sucks even though it's a good job". Now my list of people who've insulted me in some way is over 10.

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5307 I abandoned that project and am now working on a run that beats SMB1, SMB2, SMB2j, and SMB3 with one input.

No, I just mean he would find a way to eliminate that lag. I.E., kill all the enemies on screen or something like that.

No. I've had it happen in VBA (Pokémon Red). I used a glitch to get a level 0 pokémon, which had 0 defense. When it got attacked, VBA tried to divide by 0 forever, crashing the computer.

In theory, if you press start on every single frame and it doesn't pause on some of those frames, it means that frame is lagging. Then find a way to eliminate that lag. BTW, that is not sarcastic or condescending in any way. It's a real suggestion.

Well, IIRC, videos that won't play on Windows Media Player will still play on Youtube. So just upload it. If Youtube doesn't work, just use Google Video.

How the hell did the Super Mario Bros. run have just 7 rerecords?! Was it done on a different emulator than remade in FCEU? About rerecording: Well, the rerecording for this game isn't highly complicated. When I turn a corner, I figure out the first frame I can turn without hitting the corner. When running and jumping, I figure out the fewest frames I can hold A. When in cinematics, I figure out the first frame I can hit start to end it. Not highly complicated once ou get a feel for the game. Another note: When rerecording, some people go frame 1, frame 2, frame 3, etc. until they find the frame, say, 7. I go frame 1, frame 10, frame 5, frame 7. It's more efficient in terms of rerecords. Good timesaver.

Look, I'm in junior high, OK? Anyway, the point of this wasn't to vent as a particular author or movie. It's just that generally, I think less videos should be cancelled. The judges can decide if a movie is up to tasvideos' standards.

Try using frame advance. \ on most emulators.

I have an idea for entertainment. There's a button code in R/B/Y where the colours are inverted. In Red it's B+>. When doing the reset, it would be funny to invert the colous to make it seem that the glitch inverted colours.

I think the first option might be better, because Gyarados will be at just level 7, so the glitch might not be worth executing.
