I love making TASes, but as my parents hate Windows, I can only make them half as much as I could be. So could one of the programmers on this site please implement rerecording, slowmotion, and savestates into one of the emulators for Mac? Which one doesn't matter much, though the NES would be easy to do.

I've noticed that almost all the players here, especially the ones who make the most runs, are guys. Of course, the stereotypical TASer is a teenage guy who comes home from school and is on the computer all day. So which female player (if there are any) has made the most runs?

I'm working on a new run. So far (Going into the cave in 1-1) it's frame-identical, but I'm hopeful I can manage a trick or two to speed it up. For example, I will climb that little cliff with a wall jump rather than a super jump. I'm also trying to take the shyguy into the Birdo stage, so I can kill birdo quickly with him rather than wait for eggs.

What if they did it really, really fast? That first one isn't a great mission. Later missions will be more interesting, especially when Rex gets his abilities (Gun, poison, etc).

I've done my bit to advance the plot here in the Pokemon game runs. I had no idea luck-manipulation would be as boring as it is. Maybe someone else would like to work on this run? I'll happily send them the intro I have worked out. I doubt I could stay sane working on this run. I've been very lazy, and have been making entertainment runs of other games, (I.E. SMB3) that won't get submitted. I think I should just formally abandon this, and start working on a run of Lemmings. Anyone want to work on this? *cough* FractalFusion *cough*.

Over at the Impossible Creatures forum ( icp.mednickonline.com ) they've been planning to make a speedrun of all of the campaign missions (15 in all). Most of the people there, though, aren't very familiar with speedruns, though one person does UASes of SMW. IC's an RTS, which aren't often TASed, but maybe we could help them with their quest. So far they only have the first 2 missions, but they'll make more. Here's the thread for the first mission: http://icp.mednickonline.com/modules.php?name=XForum&file=viewthread&fid=4&tid=14041&page=1

Just go "If you would like to see me submit some SMB1 remixes, post here". Whenever someone posts, say "Thank you for your support". TA-DA!

We'll really be getting those comments after the video with a level 100 Charizard "materializing" (see above post).

I have two specific games in mind: Pokémon FireRed and Super Mario Advance. Pokémon FireRed is a remake of Pokémon Red. Pokémon Red has been run 3 times and I am working on a 4th run. Pokémon FireRed has much better graphics and no major glitches (presumably). It also has a few places which can be accessed after beating the Elite Four. It's necessary to catch 60 pokémon before the Elite Four to access these extra places. Super Mario Advance is a remake of Super Mario 2 (US). Super Mario 2 had quite the frame war a while back. Again, this would be like a glitchless run, however, there are other considerations. One addition of this game is "giant" items. With these items, boss fights are significantly sped up by the fact that these items can be used for triple hits against the bosses. A warps-using run would be identical, however, the heaviest modifications are in the levels which are skipped by warping. I'm working on a run of this, and so far it's been very fast-paced. This run stays highly original because the boss fights are all so different, even compared to Super Mario 2's no-warps run. Against the bosses, unconventional weapons are used, such as a giant Ninji, a shell, and a fish. So the question is: Would runs of either of these games be accepted? I read the guidelines, and they say that if a run can be original, go for it. There are some very original things to be seen in runs of either game.

Here's a REALLY great trick: If you do a hard reset while saving, there's a 2-frame margin where you can corrupt the save file without the game displaying "data corrupted". When you reaccess the save file, you'll have over 25 pokémon (idk how many, as I haven't been able to scroll to the end yet. Most are unusable as they are too glitchy, but there is one level 0 charizard with an attack near infinity. It knows real attacks, but with 0 PP. However, you can use Struggle. He grows to level 1, which means he can be sent to level 100. However, there are many bugs related to this trick. Some of the pokémon can't be healed, which means the rival battle may not end (because of the autohealing after the battle). If it does end (which, occasionally, it does) it says "13 error" then you hear the "item received" noise and then there's "14 error" and if you clear it with B while holding down, you'll walk a step down. You can repeat until leaving the lab, then the game is almost normal, except for messed up colors. I'll use this trick, as opposed to the trainer/fly glitch. It's faster to execute.

About Pokérus: It does make the pokémon have significantly better stats. However, I think professor whatever calls you to blab about the virus. However, I think that might be only when you heal in a Pokémon center. It's theoretically possible to get Pokérus in the first rival battle, but I think the odds are 65,536 to 1. You would go mad luck-manipulating. Probably you would have to use Bisqbot, if it can be used for that.

It MIGHT be possible to have the 2 movies desync (I.E. with the two movies in different places) but it would be a nightmare to coordinate. Does SMB2 have any large between-level animations not in DDP?

Yes, so it seems that the entire game would be ran through by 1 character, probably Toad, as the only level Toad would have issues with is 6-2.

This is something that's bothering me. In the first level, there's one of those white things that you can duck on and fall into the background. However, it seems that you fade back into the foreground before you can reach the end of the level. What purpose, exactly, does this serve?

Here's a TASing challenge: Get one input file that beats both Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA, of course). Theoretically, it can probably be done. It would be interesting to see. I'd do it, but embarassingly enough, I can't figure out how to "switch sides" with the Famicom emulator. It might be possible to have the SMB2 part skip ahead of the Doki Doki part, but it would be weird... Would it be possible for a movie like this (Insertnamehere's NES Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2 in 13:37) to be published on TASvideos, with the 2 videos next to each other?

This game is almost disregarded now, but I think I might have found a trick. When you pick up a POW block as toad, you go a little faster than picking up a ShyGuy. That might be usable in 1-1 and maybe some other levels...

Funny that this will be the first game to do it, especially since runs of it are so new. Of course, if I work really really fast, I might finish the Red Run before Fractal finishes his. We might be looking at 90 minutes for Red.

They have it for the SNES. Our SNES emulators are much more reliable than DOSbox currently is.

Tom and Jerry for GB - My first TAS. I made this at my grandma's house on Christmas Eve waiting for Christmas to come. True story. I got an iPod that christmas. Bad run. I made a 28-second improved version in a week.

How fast do you think the final run will be? If it goes under 1:42, we can watch "double runs" - Half is the TAS of Pokémon Red, the other half the TAS of Pokémon Sapphire.

This makes an interesting movie, but I think what would be really good would be an RTS game. Are there any decent RTSes that DOSbox can run? If they had campaigns, that would be really good.
