Voted for Zero Mission, to me it is the most entertaining one by far. And at this point it seems very optimized as well.

I went for the SMB3 run. Mega Man 1 and Metroid where both close though.

I finished up the new version just now, the walljumping saved close to 8 seconds in level 2-2, but nothing in the other levels (could not find any other use for it). Until the submission has been updated the new version is located here.

I don't really know so you'll have to wait until people who do comes around. But I think at least that RNG is not called every frame, but only when you perform certain actions, for example backdashing or using your weapon. So just waiting and killing the enemy one frame later all the time won't do any good, as won't actions that does not change RNG.

It's pretty impressive how fast you managed to redo the whole movie, glad I could be of a little help. The movie itself is pretty cool, lots of fast action and boss raping, though the 4 frame lag with every sabre hit is really annoying... 7.5/8

Don't think so, though maybe for the two wallcrawler bosses in level 2-2, but I imagine that the rest of the level is blocked off until they are dead even if you can get up past the edge. EDIT: Crap, it does work. Go go hexing (if it saves time that is). EDIT2: Ok it'll most likely save time, but probably only in that one level (possibly one more but I doubt it), and after that it is only a matter of getting the rest of the run to synch up (usually not too hard). I will try to fix it up on sunday.

Like this I guess But anyway, fun statistics are fun, even if they sometimes cause problems. So I don't like the idea of scrapping them.

'm fine with that detail. Because the consequence is that movies with high ratings truely deserve it. In order to be the best, more people have to give you a rating higher than they normally would give. To get those top ratings, your movie really has to be the best of the best.
Well I still think that it'd be better if you didn't affect the average at all if you voted whatever your exact average is. Like say you have a very good average and then 3 people who always vote 10/10 votes and it drags your average down, wouldn't it be preferable in that case that the average stays the same?

Another thought would be to weight peoples ratings based on their average rating. So if someone rated all 10's, then a 10 is an average rating and would be weighted as a 5.
While I agree that this is a good idea, doing it exactly like that probably wouldn't be good as it would make some people who constantly rate 10/10 drag down highly rated movies. Oh, and if the big problem here is the inflation in the average score (which I think) then it would probably not help to just make the ratings of the submission hidden until it is published. Because the main reason that the ratings have been inflated is just that more people have started to vote on movies, many of whom don't find use for numbers lower than 9, and hiding the score would not change that. Anyway, I'm all for change. Optimally I think that the judging should be based solely on what people say about the movie, but it greatly increases the work for the judges and less popular movies would likely end up with little to no useful comments at all. So I guess that leaves us with the yes/no/meh system or some new idea that someone might come up with.

I'm wondering something. If you make a slower movie, but it is more entertaining than the previous version, will it be accepted? Entertainment is really opinionated though.
That has happened at least once already (Gunstar Heroes for Genesis), so yes. With most games it probably wouldn't be so easily accepted though.

Very nice, I really want this to have a star for the extraordinary planning and innovation that so clearly shows. And also for making me see the credits of a game I have owned for over 10 years for the first time :)

I think there are plenty of people who would like to see such a run, though I imagine that there would be a lot of whining if the question of a 5th category for this game was seriously brought up...

Meh, I'll continue working on the run whenever I'm bored, and decide whether to fulfill or not later (depending on how big the difference is between them).

How does it compare in the opening stage then, faster slower or as fast as mine?

To those saying it's weird to complain about Bay before complaining about worse human rights violations going on in the middle east or wherever, don't you think it's reasonable to hold the US to a higher standard than these other nations? I know I do.
Yes, and that in itself is a tragedy much greater than any prison in the world (not specifically the US part, but the world in general). Prisoner - Hey, why are everyone fussing up about a prison not nearly as unjust as this one? Seriously, I'm up for a execution for thought crime! Guard - Well you see, in this country you don't really have any human rights, so no one bothers to care about you since this prison/state doesn't break any actual laws. Prisoner - Ok boss, sounds fair to me! For Americans it naturally makes more sense to care about injustice in America first hand, but for the rest of the world maybe not.

I assume that as long as the individual letters of the word appear in the correct order it does not matter what is in between.

Since it by now seems very unlikely that Gigafrost will finish an update of the run I went ahead and started to play around with the game myself. So far the intro stage is completed, and 13 frames faster than Gigafrost (mostly, if not solely, from better damageboosting). I also kill a lot more enemies for funnsies. Now if there has been any new tricks glitches or timesavers found for this game since the last submission (and the improvements listed there), or if someone is secretly working on this game already, this is preferably the time to speak up. I don't want to waste my time after all :) WIP

Sounds wonderful, I really hope you finish it the end, as it is a incredibly huge and hard run. This is one of the runs that I have been looking forward to the most since I learned what a TAS was about.

Nah... But anyway yeah, the intended route through Super Metroid is pretty obvious. What would be much harder is to determine what SB's where intended/known about before the release.

Why so few nominees?
I guess because very few actually nominated anything in time. Now that you remind me about it, it is a complete scandal that your AoS run isn't on the list, and probably something else too.

sorry, i couldn't understand.
From what I understand this is what he means. In the original Japanese version of the game this SB was present, and could cause a crash if you reached some area when you where not supposed to. In the American version this crash had been fixed, meaning they knew you could get into that area out of order, but they didn't make it impossible to do so. (EDIT: a little late) Anyway, I'm not really for a natural route run, but rather a run without any major skips. Which would probably mean save Richter to get to the inverted castle and collect all the Vlad parts to get to Dracula. This would also for consistency disallow the glitches that makes these skips possible. Either that or just an all bosses run, or as earlier suggested an all relics run.

There is a link to a youtube video in the submission text. If you need help to get the emulator/game to run there is a forum section for this emulator.

Let me remind some people that this is a TAS. TASes are expected to take advantage of glitches, shortcuts, and game shortcomings. (I don't see you whining about Sonic 3 and Knuckles now, so I?) If you want to watch a glitchless run, go elsewhere.
Contrary to some peoples beliefs TASes aren't always about finishing a game as fast as possible without regard for anything. And there are plenty of cases where glitched and non glitched movies of the same game coexists, so your last statement is very odd.

however, this run is as glitched as some people make it out to be. Alucard isn't warping to wherever the hell he wants. he's only going to an adjacent room. he's only ignoring semi-important goals. the severity of the edge travels is comparable to zips in a Mega Man game, not to the warping tricks in the GBA Castlevanias. if a larger-length Alucard run were to be made, most tricks should still be fair game, like skipping Richter. the main, and really only, thing that would change would be defeating the 5 inverted castle bosses for the Vlad relics.
For me personally it's not really about how severe the glitches are, but how much of the game they let you skip. I think that there is a lot of potential for a longer run of this game. And if a longer run of the game was made then I think using stuff like edge travel and the wolf squeeze should be disallowed, since it's those glitches that makes all the skips possible (similar to how BLJ's would be banned in a 70 star Mario 64 run, if such a run was ever made).[/url]
