Ideas on whether to use cheats for unlocking upgrades/ace-mode/vehicles? Imo the game is more interesting from an IL point of view... so cheats for unlocking would then allow for max results

Haven't seen any TAS ideas for this game yet... I think it'd look quite impressive with perfect accuracy. Probably the strategies would change alot from non-TAS (e.g. what ship to choose) If no-one is working on it yet, I might give it a go.

Somebody should give that file a more permanent mirror or it'll expire (ok maybe not soon, but afaik it will eventually )

Wow that was far more interesting to watch than I expected (played through the game once, then never touched it again) Keep it up! :)

Heh good to hear that Control is out of the way ;D Next one is kinda 'big' as well, I imagine... As for Cradle, I'm not familiar with the mechanics of how Trav takes damage.... but wouldn't it be possible to use a grenade on him earlier? I see the problem of the explosion being in thr way... (but in the current TAS quite some standing still is present)? Maybe even kill him without grenade but just a multitude of headshots? In that case, a grenade on the terminal may save some time Oh I always wondered.. isn't the 'secret' rocky hallway in lowern Caverns a shorter route? Though I assume that's been tried before :p GL!

I think it'd be quite hard to figure out a decent bound between TAS and non-TAS speedrun

Heh yeah i noticed that too ;D Ye PD works the same way as GE regarding the initial/full-maxSpeed... Only difference is that in PD you cant abuse 2.3/2.4 to start the counter earlier ;D As for the elevator/elvis timing... it may help to do some RAM digging to figure out whether they're tied to the clock or perhaps to other triggers

Nice to see AttackShip TASed ;D Just like in GE, running has an initial max speed which is increased aftef some 100-200 frames... it aeems that there were many situatiins where you couldv'e started running (into a wall) earlier inorder to maintain a higher speed? Then again... maybe it would only lead to longer waits at elvis/elevators... Did you try the AR on the 3 bridge skedar? Headshots-only it may be faster than Maulers... Also, maybe it'd be possible to shoot the very last skedar slightly earlier by crouching and ahooting between the front-skedar's legs? The two Maulers can fire sequentially very fast, can't they? Damn, u make me wanna TAS this game ;D

Very impressive run, the improvements are great :) I was thinking while watching it, in VD1, could you split the yoshi coin to get a key/wings/balloon block, and then obtain a balloon to use the left+right trick to fly through the wall with the pipe? I would think it would be faster than going through the pipe.
wouldn't that break the small-only limitation? edit: oh nvm... balloon is already used ;) btw really impressive watch so far :D

1.1 is finished and 1.2 almost done planning... I'll put some of it on youtube soon :)
have you put it on youtube yet? i saw your 32x TAS, but the 32x version looks kinda weird because the character looks like he moves too fast.
The project is on a long halt ... most of the time i find a nice trick, the fastest way is to ignore it and take the obvious non-TAS routes :S Anyway no I haven't put it on youtube yet, I think i should finish W1 and then show :) btw the Genesis version runs much faster so yeah that's why the character seems to run faster.... he actually does :) btw you just got me motivated to continue again :) edit: oh btw the gens version contains an additional world in-between the caves and forest worlds :)

1.99.3 runs fine, but you do need to provide a path to the ROM and you need to start it from a command prompt: http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/downloads/list
afaik 1.99.3 has frame-advancing and savestates, but no input-(re)recording also:
The game can be finished, though a few areas cannot be visited and a couple moves cannot be learned

I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to achieve... i think you're trying to get an overview of science fiction in relation to reality? some website i quickly googled has 'where science meets fiction' as a subtitle (that's as far as I've looked into it though): http://www.technovelgy.com/ ps. fun SciFi story: http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html

ah yeah, good one :) same as for 'Disctrict 9' (using SciFi to convey a real message)
